@@klausschlobluvsmesometwood4679 I thought it was a tough enough trail for that vehicle. My 6 cylinder 2 wheel drive truck would likely not make it. That trail has character not unlike some jobsites. Which is what a truck should be built for. Back in a load of 2X4s and be able to pull out. (Some jobsites are horrific.) Class 4 trails in southern Utah?, mudding in Tennessee?,,, special made vehicles. The reason I choose a 2 wheel drive,,, the annual cost of calling for a tow out of the mud once or twice a year, is far less than the extra cost for the 4 wheel drive. I'm a cheapskate.
I LIKE the simpler, older trucks. Heater, aircon.,,, that's what I want. Blue tooth split screen 8 way surround sound, 0-60 in 2.6 seconds, power windows, power mirrors, power door locks,,steps, a bed height that needs a lifting crane,,tires that cost 3 grand each,, ,, uh,, why? Just doubles the price without halving the work cost. My truck is ugly,,15 years old,, but it has a habit, it starts every time. Its all I need.

My graduation present in 86 was a used CJ5 with a snap top and full soft doors and I had it in a beaver pond Fender deep and no computer malfunctions. And on the other side muddy and steaming. With the short wheelbase and turning radius I could go between trees in bottoms and pickups could not.
The last CJ5 I inquired about cost 10 thousand over my basic 2000 TJ that I still own. Yeah it's a 4 banger with a soft top, half doors and a 5 speed manual. I paid 18 and was offered 12 for it a few months back. There's some scratches but no rust. But I wish I had my CJ back though.

If you throw a pickup box full of wood on old green she would have walked right up that hill first time. Biggest issue for the dodge was those cooper SSTs even with a shorter tire that dodge may have made it. One more thing is if you bust the trail first with one truck (in snow) the next one has a better chance. The reverse holds true in mud.

@@decibelinterference2033 Yeah, that'd be a big fat negatory on that one driver. There's no common knowledge about it, @thomas is correct. How are you supposed to get the tires to grip if they're just floating/spinning in the snow? Unless they're paddle wheels...you need traction & without enough weight, you won't get enough traction. Throughout MANY of our winters spent up in Lake Tahoe...if my empty Peterbilt 10 wheel dump truck (w/full rear locker axles) starts spinning or losing traction in the snow...we either throw a couple fat scoops of snow in the bed or (if height permissive) I'll just raise the bed up so all the weight is concentrated over/on top of the axles...& she'll walk on out every time. Not going to debate, just know what works/makes traction for me & that's downforce personified, resulting from the extra weight. However, as he said...that's NOT so much the case when it comes to deep mud.

Great video, beautiful trucks! Unlike a lot of others who commented I was not expecting that. Years ago I had a 1990 Ramcharger with a small lift and very good 35" Mud King tires and I was snow wheeling with a buddy who had a 1997 chevy tahoe with no lift and 33" tires(not sure the brand) we each had 4 guys inside and everywhere I went, He went and one hill I couldn't climb for anything, He did. I blamed it on the extra weight and IFS so that's why I was sure the TRX would have it in the bag.

Now, for the sake of a fair test and comparison, you have to find a place on open space in the deep snow where the old pickup will get stuck, and then try to drive there in a new pickup. Because as I understand the only thing holding you back is not even its weight, but its width, so as not to damage it.

NH lifetime 68 year old man here! Fun video! In 86 I bought my first brand new vehicle which was also my first truck. A new F150 regular cab with manual 4 speed with 1st gear granny. It was my daily driver and I Drove that truck through snow while hunting on tote roads and everywhere else. In 95 I bought a new one but I didn’t trade in the old 86. I put new tires, gas tank, and ball joints on it and gave it to my Dad! He had it for years. I still miss that ole truck with a ton of memories attached to it. Fast forward to 2020 after a number of other trucks, I bought my first Ram. I just put a set of Falcon AT3W tires on my 2020 Ram Bighorn 4X4 crew cab and they are awesome. I love the truck and still hunt, I just wish I still had the physical agility I had 37 years ago when I bought that 86. I was adventurous back then lol The new Ram, now 3 years old next month will likely last me my lifetime cuz I’m loving it and the prices of trucks now is crazy! Again, fun video!!

They were all amazing in snow, better than any other pickups I have had so far. The 1995 F-150 with a 302 that I have now seems pretty good, but I haven't really tested it out to the full extent.

Excellent video, I really enjoyed watching. Let me say that TIRE, TIRES, and Excellent Snow TIRES will make all the difference. Yes, it is nice to have all the new technology and lots of power, but if you cannot hook up in the snow, all that is for nothing. I have a 97 Dodge with a Cummings (yes, I know that is a very heavy truck) but with locking differentials and 4 Cooper Discoverer S/T Maxx tires, it is a beast. I plow snow with it and add some weight in the back. I have plowed up to 16" of snow with not much of a problem. I did put 255/85/16s, the taller but narrower tires work amazingly well.
