My Great Grandpa was in the US Army in WW1. A bad case of strep throat was going around and the supply lines were broken and no antibiotics were to be had. A French soldier gave him a couple cloves of garlic and told him to eat it with lunch and supper. The next day it was almost cured. His French buddy ran over under fire the next day and brought him some more. The day after he was cured. Great Grandpa did not see his buddy the next day to tell him the good news. He found out a few days later a sniper got him while he was bringing a 30 pound sack of garlic to US troops. To this day I always call garlic French Penicillin or foxhole penicillin. Great Grandpa always said to remember France was America's first and only allie in The American Revolution and helped turn the tide against the Brittish and to pray for Jehans family he left behind. Great video sir!

What a wonderful story!! And so true. My great grandpa was in WW1 as well. We had lots of these stories told to us. Also, I grew up on my great grandparents farm. They taught me all these home remedies. Most ppl don't realize all drugs created came from plants and things right here on Mother Earth. They even travel to places out in the wild to find plants for cures. Then they synthesize it and make a chemical with the same make up. Lots cheaper than growing those plants but it becomes a chemical drug no longer natural which just isn't the same for our bodies. I appreciate you sharing your story!! I will be sharing with my family if that's OK? 😊❤

I've had some great times with my grandfather who was a muleskinner in the Oklahoma oilfields when he was a teenager. Cowboy Kent's mannerisms reminds me of my Grandpa's. I'm curious, we were told how they would 'fry down' meat to preserve it since there was no refrigerators back then. They'd cook the meat, pour some of the grease in a barrel , add meat ...repeat.. until all the available meat was packed in the "tallow." I guess air couldn't get to the meat so it stayed edible for a while. I wonder if Kent's kin did that?

I was lucky enough as a newborn in 1960 to be adopted by a mid 60's couple that went through the great depression in the mountains of West VA. My grandfather was my favorite person who told me tails of Indians and moving cattle out west. He was born in 1874 and died at 100 when I was 14. The lessons I learned from being so blessed has helped me pass down so much knowledge. I have truly been fortunate in this life.

Raw honey, lemon juice, peppermint, chamomile, cayenne/hot pepper, ginger and cinnamon. All that as a tea will help you a lot! My granny used to give us that and a cough medication she made with hot peppers onions and honey. It worked too and she grew all that herself veg and herbs. She wasn't against giving you a touch of Jim beam or moonshine for when you were REALLY in bad shape. I miss my granny so much and she taught me a lot especially about natural medicines. She grew up during the Depression and WW2 in coal country where doctors and medicine was scarce and people had to make a dollar outta 15 cents.
They used dandelion a lot too, wild ginseng, catnip, she gave me a wealth of knowledge about what we can use.

She was an awesome cook and I can hear her saying exactly that. Drove my Mom and Aunt crazy, because they wanted her cinnamon roll recipe. Trouble was she never measured or wrote it down, took forever but they finally got that recipe by having GG pour it in her hand then my Mom would make her use a measuring cup so they knew how much of each ingredient was being used and write it down. Right now it is snowing big fluffy flakes like somebody broke a feather pillow open, but nothing is sticking, and I will get out the chessboard. When the sun comes out this afternoon you can explore the countryside and forest that is less than 10 miles in any given direction and closer in most. The ice on the lake is too mushy and the water temp too cold to go fishing, but that will change in about 2 weeks, and the steelhead should be running. It's Idaho. That's why I retired here. Dear Sir, I appreciate you taking the time to share with us your knowledge. You see, I'm from Mexico and some of this remedies are popular, some of them aren't. I will share with you a "Vitamin Bomb shake" that I drink everyday and I assure you, this will help you with every process going on you body:
    1 slice of pineapple
1 medium size apple (any kind)
    1 cellery sprig
    1 tablespoon of whole linseed
    1 tablespoon of oats
2-3 cups of chia water (or regular water also works fine)
1 medium sized nopal (this ones are harder to get outside Mexico, if it is not included, It'll work just fine)
1/2 finger of peeled and sliced ginger
1/4 finger of peeled and sliced turmeric (powdered or pickled is not as effective as in root, but it can make the deal)
Put all of this in a blender for like 2 to 3 minutes on medium speed and you'll get almost one liter of this blend. I know, it can be much and the consistency might not be pleasant, but I can tell you I haven't gone to the doctor for 5 years since I started taking this every morning.
Keep on doing an outstanding job and I wish you the best.

I wish her methods were passed down because they seemingly died off with her when she died. She came up in a time (she was a native AZ pioneer) when you didn’t just go to the grocery. She maintained this lifestyle throughout her life. I could tell you some true & vivid stories, but I digress. Grandma would put the entire onion in your sick room & even used it as an air purifier during cold season. That song was Jim Stafford, "The wildwood weed." 😉
Hey, Kent, it's "me" again. Please bare with me for this, I *know* it will mean something to you.
In response to your video, I'd like to acknowledge my mother. She was a heavily certified, registered nurse for almost 45yrs. She selflessly worked in emergency rooms, psych wards and ran both the coronary and intensive care facilities, while teaching and doing patient care, simultaneously, for decades.
She often worked 3-11pm because they most needed the help (and the extra pay didn't hurt) so, I seldom saw her during the school week.
She's 94 with a very weak heart and just went into the hospital this weekend and... Has Covid. Even though she hadn't left the house in a couple of years (she willingly stopped driving at 90!) and only had a couple of people taking care of her, it still happened so, it's "out there" and will find people, masks or not.
Though her heart is failing, she's still sharp as a tack and would beat you at scrabble. 😀 But what's important is...
She's had a long and prosperous life, working the family farm/butcher shop during the depression (her first job was the slaughter house so, being a nurse was easy 😀), all while supporting her family and dealing with the crazy animals, while others would be crumpled in the corner from fatigue. She is at peace with things, refusing treatment and I am, too. This isn't about sympathy, just acknowledgment and thanks.
She's amazing and I just want to let people know how lucky I am and the *world* is to have this type of people who worry about and care for others *more* than they do themselves. She's also a deeply spiritual, Christian lady. The world will be an emptier place without her, one of the true forces against suffering and evil.
Dad was a trucker, even when we had animals to deal with so, I was the proverbial "latch-key kid," coming home to deal with the animals and chores, then do my school work. I had no time to get in trouble. 😉 That's a dying way of life and kids aren't tough (read confident and capable) anymore. If they can't do it with a keyboard, they just whine until someone else does it for them. But, I digress...
Mom also tought me how to cook like a restaurant chef (her parents, 9 kids and the hired hands at the table three times a day, EVERY day, basically *was* a restaurant, with my grandmother as head chef. Another woman who did it ALL, no matter what and was my mother's inspiration), to work hard, care for people and animals alike and also insisted that I learn proper grammar, to read and to educate myself so that I had *no excuses* for not knowing how to learn and figure things out for myself and to communicate with others, no matter who they were.
When the equipment broke down on "the floor" (critical care unit) and lives were under threat, it was she who fixed the problem before the techs even got there. No excuses, no passing blame, just do what had to be done. The doctors came to *her* when they couldn't figure out their patients and they all but shut down the hospital, with just a few people working when they gave her a retirement send off. That type of dedication and work ethic is lost on the newer generations.
She also took her very old, expensive, upright piano down to every individual component, stripped and refinished it (it was better off for it), *hand carved* all new hammers for it, reassembled and restrung it. She just had to have the tuner come out to the house... She's living proof that there nothing you can't do if you put your mind to it.
(She also reupholstered the furniture). She passed that work ethic to me and I've managed to give it to my kid. That's a better legacy than a million dollars.
These are some "old home" things she and dad (another depression era farm boy) tought me...
Pure honey is also a natural antibiotic for topical scrapes and sores. If you get a deep cut, clean it as best you can, no matter the pain and coat it in honey to keep out contaminants/bacteria/bugs and wrap it up until you can get medical care. It will help prevent infection and possibly, gangrene.
You also left off the "famous one," a tobacco poultice for all kinds of stings. It works for bee stings like magic, fire ants and also the small (3/4"-1") black scorpion stings. They're all over the southern states. Here, in GA. people are always surprised to learn that we have them, all through the southern half of the state. They're not particularly poisonous but, it feels like getting hit with a hammer (like a wasp sting, etc.) and, if you're one of those people allergic to bee stings, scorpion stings can also cause anaphylaxis so, carry your epi-pen, even if you're not going to "bee country."
To make a dressing, moisten well but *don't soak* some cigarette or, preferably chewing tobacco and place it over the sting(s) and cover with a band-aid or tight wrap to hold it in place. The chewing tobacco that comes in little pouches works well, too and is about the right amount for one sting. It works best if you open one side and place that towards the sting, the "pouch" material gives some buffer to the band-aid/wrap. I keep a can of either "regular" or the pouches in my med-kit/pack, glove box, etc. (try to avoid the flavored tobacco if carrying in a kit, the flavoring could possibly be an irritant) whenever we head out. Just get it wet, work it until it starts producing "juice" and you're good. The tobacco juice will work as an analgesic (pain reliever) and if the stinger tip is broken off (try to carefully remove the stinger and sac with tweezers or gently scraping with a knife blade), it will help draw it out. *Don't mess with it* once it's in place! After 20-30 minutes, you'll have completely forgotten that you were even stung. It really does work!!
My granny Taylor lived to be 104 and chewed tobacco 90 of it. Everytime a kid/grandkid got stung (and she had a passel of 'em) she'd just spit on their arm, wrap it with something, then say "now get off my porch!" 😆
I know this was long but, thanks for reading it. You share so much with us, it makes me happy to be able to share something besides a "wise crack" in return. I've told you several times that we have much in common (my first round-up was at ten) with the dogs/animals (our beagles were great), family and the "western spirit" and I greatly appreciate your attitude and respect for both the country and our military folk and I'm very proud to have served in the protection and preservation of people like yourself and miss Shannon. Truly my honor.
    Thank you!! 😀

30+ years ago I visited with an old Wyoming Cowboy about his cowboy experiences. His first week working on a big ranch he deeply cut his hand on a rawhide lead and was directed to the cook. The young cowboy thought it was curious that the cook dismantled the oil lamp but even more surprised when the cook grabbed his thumb and poured the coal oil into his wound and then bound his hand. It hurt like Hell but after in a few days was nicely healed. Sulfur in the oil was the secret, he claimed.

I start with a Hot Toddy, and then alternate between a half shot of whiskey mixed with a half shot of 7-Up, and a shot of full whiskey and aon throughout the day. In all these years, I've only had to go to the Dr twice -- the 1st time I found out what I had, and last year because I didn't have any whiskey in the house and it was 3 days before I could get some (gave the pneumonia a chance to take hold, I didn't catch it in time). My Mom had an old remedy book writen by a Dr. in the late 1800's she found at a rummage sale.
She used them all on us. Only one I couldn't use was the sulfur remedy because I'm allergic to sulfas.
The apple cider vinegar remedy everyone raves about today like it's the new thing, did that one to from the book lol.
