- Hi, this video shows the evolution of the Xbox controllers from the original Xbox in 2001 up to the latest Xbox One X console. I show and talk about each controller and show the features and differences between them.

For anyone who's wondering why The Duke was so huge, it's because the controller's designer, Denise Chaudhari, was given prototype motherboards based on concept sketches to design around. Instead of designing the controller first, then producing boards that fit the size and shape of the controller, Denise had to design the controller around the already produced boards. The boards were comically large for a controller but they were all she had to work with, so she designed the huge frame we now call The Duke to house the gigantic boards Microsoft provided her with.

I remember putting the batteries in the old Xbox controllers. I miss that. I also think that not having the indicator of which player you are in the Xbox One is a backward step.

Got a question, is the 360 breakaway port the same as the original port? I have an akebono that I want to use on my PC, I wonder if I can just switch out the proprietary connector with the USB one on the 360?

OMG! MEMORIES CAME BACK! Because when i watched this video i was STILL on the 360 and when i saw the Xbox One S and the controller i said i WILL have the Xbox One S! And NOW i have the Xbox One S FINALLY! I bought it 2 months ago!

I remember the first time I used the Xbox 360 controller. I was blown away as it was so much better than any other controller I'd used up to that point. And the Xbox One X controller is even better, in my opinion.

With the battery pack Xbox 360 I liked the battery pack for resting my fingers, but then I got the one S and I'm not sure if I prefer the pack or not

This is a really awesome video for me because I grew up on PlayStation, so getting used to the PlayStation controller, but I ultimately preferred Xbox controllers because I have larger hands and I find the Xbox controllers to be more comfortable most of the time but obviously was growing up on PlayStation. The PlayStation controller is what I’m used to.
This video was awesome. Just purely because it’s giving me an opportunity to go back and have a look at all the Xbox controllers that I missed out on and it makes me wonder if things were different and I grew up with Xbox instead of PlayStation.

The joysticks always clicked in since "The Duke" controller, and I'm certain because I was stuck on a level in Munch's Oddysee for a loooong time because I didn't know about it and I needed it.
Same when I was like 9 and playing Skate 3.

Recently, mine stopped working as well as it had the months before. I think it was because I had stopped playing it for 3-4 months, or maybe the fact it’s 6-7 years old. It’s really sad, as I have many memories on it. I went on it yesterday. I saw all the characters sleeping, probably never coming online again, heh. I really don’t want to let it go. Me, my cousins and my sibling, have so much work put into it. I’m not ready to start a new journey just yet. I’m trying my best to keep it alive. I can’t lose it. So many games... so much data... I’m sorry, and I thank you for being my in childhood. (Dammit I’m crying, dude 😭)
You're missing 3 controllers.
For the original 360 the center logo had a brushed mental look before the chrome update on the Xbox logo, and the chrome series of controllers with the transformable D-pad both directly from Microsoft.
The third controller is a 3rd party if I'm not mistaken which is the "New Duke" with the screen in the center.

not as old as most of the people who were at the original release dates but grew up on a xbox 360 controllers and I loved the battery pack in the center because it helped my fingers and pressing all the buttons that my little fingers couldn't reach.

actually, that's only on the third party Xbox One controller modeled after the duke, made by hyperkin. With newer technology, they had more space for the small screen that would show the xbox boot screen. In the original, that space was taken up by the memory card slots.

The duke controller was the shiznits... had 2 extra buttons. The creator of the duke controller made a licensed Xbox one version of transparent green, red, and regular black. I'd reccomend! Nothing like using the white button to turn on the flashlight in halo 2.
They made it have an animation and the middle lights up unlike the original too. You can find it on Amazon. Limited amount left...
The only games i know that have split screen is Mortal Kombat And Forza Motorsport (insert game in series) so cant you know like what car anc color you picked or what fighter you picked?

I need to grab a Duke soon for my original Xbox. I have an S controller that came with it when I got mine last year. I haven't played much but one thing I hate is the white and black button placement being under the A button. It's always uncomfortable to try and press. Maybe more I start getting into it here in a few weeks I will get use to the S controller.
