Suraj is correct about the 33 year thing. If the circle is complete in 33 years, regardless of what day you choose 33 years later it will be the same. So your 33rd birthday would be the same as the day you were born. If its a circle, it doesnt matter where you start on the circle because 33 years later you will be back where you started. As for the show though, there is a defined time where the 33 years starts.
I remember being so proud that I caught that my first time around, and then connecting it to the red thread Jonas found as well as the allusions to the "labyrinth" of time. It saddens me to see that no reactors I've watched have noted/broke that down yet, though I don't imagine that tale is one that's on the forefront of peoples minds. I remember in season 1 I did have some trouble even keeping track of who was who. So we should at least give them time to review their notes.

There's definitely nothing wrong with using character appearance as evidence of their identities in different timelines. Even though you were off with the stranger's identity which you initially suspected of being Jonas's dad, this show does an excellent job of casting people who are not only great actors but also look uncannily like their +/- 33 year counterparts.

To be honest it didn't get to me until next episode when I thought "oh ! that meaning he kissed his aunt !". This show is complex and there is so much informations, you can't always catch everything directly. So imo it's a little unfair to expect them to pay attention to every single detail from the get go.

This is actually a problem for all the time travel stories because the solar system is zooming around the galaxy, so if you step back any amount of time, you would find yourself out in empty interstellar space.

The beginning of everyone truly hating hannah lmao, also yeah the casting in this show is next level. People also talk a lot about the story and rightly so but I think visually, it's absolutely gorgeously shot.
Michael killed himself a few months before Mikkel disappears. After Michaels death, Jonas was in therapy or in "france". Mikkel disappears after Jonas comes back to school. So the young Mikkel must have known, that Jonas father died. So when Mikkel grows up becoming Michael, he knows (or remembers) that Michael will die by suicide in the year he travels back. Like Michael said in his letter: "You can try to suppress it, but it will always find its way back to the surface. We make a lie into our truth in order to survive. We try to forget. Until we can't anymore." He couldn't anymore...
When I first watched this episode I felt like I cracked the theories. But what we know really only a drop. What we don't know an ocean. Season 3 is so complicated I just give up tracking timelines and family trees
I watched this season back when it first came out. I read somewhere that this is about time, so I knew in the first episode that mikkel is Michael because of the time written on the letter. This show is a masterpiece in every department.
Beginning from the zeroth year of the universe, if everything is same on the 33rd as in the zeroth year, then everything will be same in the 33+1 year as in the 0+1 year. So Suraj is right. Not only the highest and lowest point on a sinusoidal wave are equidistant, but every point on the left or right of the crust of the sine wave, with the same y coordinate and same relative position to the crust, will be equidistant.
I just finished this episode, and I am enjoying it so much! Key takeaways from this episode: (1) Is cheating just innate in the Nielsen family? (2) I have my second correct call of the series: Mikkel is Jonas's father (3) The comparison to LOST is so real that (based from this episode alone) it even has a Richard Alpert in Noah (3) How messed up is the Kahnwald family? Poor Jonas, knowing that your father is technically younger than you in your timeline, and (not known to him yet) his mother is just flat-out insane and obsessed (4) I enjoy the camera angles used in this episode, and the show, so far. It really adds to the viewing experience (5) I still have no earthly idea who the two hooded figures are. On to episode 6!
i feel like you guys aren't taking into consideration the implications on mental health. time traveling to the 80's and leaving everything you've grown up with for the past what 8-10 years. leaving your family, your friends, etc...only to see younger versions of themselves. that can have a severe impact on someone. i would feel tremendously isolated regardless of forging new relationships. while you guys don't know what leads up to him hanging himself, i personally , while watching it blind, thought it's totally understandable to develop depression or a whole myriad of problems by living in a time you aren't supposed to exist. there is no explanation or a doc to tell you the mechanics behind your situation, you are a little ass kid whos been taken from his family and now have to suddenly live in what is effectively another world. i would be severely disconnected if i was Mikkel. maybe he just reached a point where he couldn't take it. imagine finally reaching the time at which you disappeared into the 80's. id probably break down and cry or freak out.
I haven't finished the show yet but I'm on season 3. Watching your reactions to this show made me pick up something that I didn't notice on my first watch. I won't specify what it is but it's really subtle and no it's not about 33 years lunar cycle.
The 33 year lunar solar cycle can be easily explained with a three handed clock. No matter what time time you look at it, 12 hours later/earlier the hands will be in the exact same position. In the context of the lunar solar cycle the 12 hours are 33 years
I think all of you are right about the 33 year cycle. But Suraj is just making it a personal thing. What "matters" though are the specific alignments - like eclipses. Are the Sun, Moon and Earth all in a straight line? What is the specific config that causes time travel to be possible? Noah didn't age between talking to Mikkel and talking to Bartoz. Remember the bruise. Make you own family tree.

I haven't finished the show yet but I'm on season 3. Watching your reactions to this show made me pick up something that I didn't notice on my first watch. I won't specify what it is but it's really subtle and no it's not about 33 years lunar cycle.

The 33 year lunar solar cycle can be easily explained with a three handed clock. No matter what time time you look at it, 12 hours later/earlier the hands will be in the exact same position. In the context of the lunar solar cycle the 12 hours are 33 years

in germany it's ok and normal (unless you live in a big city) for kids to play outside alone and go to school on their own etc

What "matters" though are the specific alignments - like eclipses. Are the Sun, Moon and Earth all in a straight line?
