I remember when I was a young girl in cadicism class. The nuns would talk about the Holy Trinity when we made the sign of the cross, but we never went into the full understanding of the relationship. I always believed in the Trinity as God, but had not been given the tools to see better until I began reading your book. The Devine Dance. Thank you so much for this!
It is amazing to me that things we have done our whole lives without thought that have such great meaning to impact our lives. Thank you Richard Rohr!!
Beautiful. I never thought of it as a body prayer, or thought of how I could bless myself. But when I pay attention to it, I know that this is true. I've been doing the Sign of the Cross for decades, but never thought of it this way.
Martin Luther never intended to give up the sign of the cross. Lutherans lost it as part of the identity politics of the reformation. Thank you Fr. Richard for this wonderful examination.
Thank you Richard. Your explanation is a new way of applying the sign of the cross that fits for today. Growing up in Ireland in the Catholic Church it was difficult to feel worthy as the emphasis was on adhearing to rules. The body was forbidden. I think your interpretation is completely ' new' and relevant going forward. I am thankful to hear new language at last.
Rich, beautiful and inspiring. I usually use the Eastern rite tradition of crossing my body from right to left. Invariably Catholics wil question me as there is still a .fair bit of ignorance about the diversity of the Catholic identity.
Ty so much for explaining, I grew up doing sign of cross then became protestant, ignored for awhile, left the church and find myself connected to the sign as a body connection to MY faith .

Thank you for this teaching... leading... experience.
God so loves the suffering of the world he/she self-gratifies through a crucifixion and resurrection.
this is wonderful.
Nice!
Before the priest reads the gospel, he and all the people make 3 little crosses, one on the forehead, one on the lips, and one over the heart.❤
2 Samuel 6:16 ~ GLADNESS resulted.
