Yuriko’s quest line still brings me to tears. Every time I play through it, it genuinely breaks me as I’ve lost close friends here. But I like the fact that the Guiding Wind and the Golden Birds are personifications of loved ones.
Same here, stumbled on this channel a day ago and wondering the same thing. I got nothing to say, just adding a comment to boost engagement, cause I like the video.
Seriously, this just popped up in my feed while i was driving, and i thought it was going to be a much more popular video. What i didn’t expect was for it to only have 250 likes and 6k views
I love this video, so don't see this as a hateful comment, but I think your take on Ryuzo is a little unfair. Yes, he did terrible things, but there is a symmetry to Jin's story in that same sense. Both men did things they didn't want to do, in order to save their people. All things considered, from the ronin's point of view, Ryuzo chose the winning side in order to put an end to the conflict with as little suffering as possible. He wasn't a samurai, he had little to lose by accepting a Mongol rule, and history is full of examples of individuals joining an invading force in order to achieve peace. Ryuzo's desperate move in Act II is consistent with how he's characterized throughout the game, I feel. We know Jin will succeed because this is a game, but Ryuzo does not need to believe that.
I think at least part of the reason Shimura asks Jin to write the last words of both clan Sakai and Shimura is because he knows that he'll lose to Jin, either because he's not able to keep up with the younger Jin or can't bring himself to kill the man he raised as his son. And since refusing the Shogun's orders would dishonor him as well, Shimura has Jin write the poems in order for him to have a more honorable death in the duel instead of writing his clan's before he commits seppuku.
Another awesome video game essay. This makes me want to finish the DLC from a few years back & I hope to see you do an extended video for it one day. I think I speak for everyone who views your videos, and we appreciate your great work. 👍🏿
A month ago, I finally decided to go for the "Honor Shimura with death" ending. I knew what was in the scene. I was sure it wouldn't trigger anything. I never cried over a videogame so much
I absolutely love ghost . The Japanese culture is my favorite! I love their music so much I barely listen to English writers anymore cause it’s like all the same now . I love anime they just have so much! This game is so beautiful! Honestly I love flashbacks cause I like having context.
this guys like my new comfort youtuber idk. i can listen to his vids for hours, and plus the humor?? so good. the other vids were the perfect combo of story, praise, some critique, while also keeping it fun. keep it up
Would it be possible to argue that in a way, Yuna’s “mythologizing” of the Ghost indirectly killed Taka? I mean, if it weren’t for the inspiration by the myth of the Ghost, it’s unlikely that Taka would have gone to the camp in the first place. Her trying to inspire the peasants may have in a sad, terrible chain of events, led to Taka being killed.
The only ludonarrative dissonance I experienced with this game was the use of poison. Maybe it was because getting the armor was the last thing I did in act 2, so I hadn’t had enough time to embrace those more brutal methods… but the way it becomes central to the plot after I had used it all of two times was ah… awkward. I really think you should be directed there first. On my second playthrough, I went to the Sakai estate as the first action of act 2, then Yarikawa, then the message with Shimura, and that felt far more natural - by the end, I had begun to experiment with the poison. It also makes Shimura’s sudden switch from endorsing Jin’s behavior to burning the adoption announcement flow better. But that’s the ONLY complaint I have against the game’s story. I was left shaking after Ryuzo’s “open the gates!” cutscene and was on the edge of my seat from then on. The two quiet queer representations (how very japanese) were wonderfully uplifting and the kind of thing a closeted quiet Ethan needed at the time. It’s also the only game for which I’ve completed all side quests, and I did it completely by accident on my first go.
I did the same exact thing; when Jin asked for poison, I was like 'WHERE DID THIS COME FROM?' as I had already maxed out gear, liberated most of the island, and completed basically every side quest available at that point. Like, I've been doing pretty good without it so far...
Forgot to comment these. First, great video! Second: *clears throat* *marching drums begin* Iki! Iki! Iki! Iki! *drums and chanting intensify* IKI! IKI! IKI! IKI! That is all 😎
Fun fact concerning Jin's sword. While they used the much more widely recognizable Katana as his main weapon, in the japanese voice-over they consistently refer to his sword as a tachi. So even while they took these liberties, they honoured the more historically accurate version through their dialogue
Tbh, in the last part before we kill the khan and fighting his soldiers on the ship… I genuinely hadn’t had an idea that the person which i am taking so much time to fight and defeat was KHAN himself… i thought that it was just one of the strong soldier like Temuge… it was until the last cutscene where i realised that i have defeated khan 😅😂
Bro made a 3 hour video on a beautiful game and it was good.... how is he not popular Love from hungary Edit:No way you saw my comment! Keep up the good work
11:34 Shimura survived because Kohtun hit him with the pommel of the sword. You can barely see it, and I was confused for my first 2 playthroughs about that, but he just knocks him out really fast.
Sakais uncles relationship with his nephew and whole "honor" Samauri "hangup" while understandable for gameplay interest , is frankly a bit hypocritical. It is well known now that there were many Samauri who regularly engaged in what could be considered "Ninja" tactics when necessary. Unconventional weapons, use of gun powder, explosive, smoke bombs, poisons, traps, espionage and silent killing instead of the normal expected claiming of lineage, display of glory, and face to face battles. I always see this game as what happened in a past life for Iron Chef Hiroyuki Sakai😂 great video

This game doesn't directly include historical figures, and was well received. A certain other game that normally avoids historical figures being playable recently decides to not only make a historical figure playable, but is also massively controversial one. Almost seems there's a lesson to be learned. The interesting thing about the katana and tachi, the Japanese audio dialogue actually says tachi, indicating only the English dialogue and text use katana for the apparent familiarity to places like the Unities States. This and other things are something Gaijin Goombah did a good video about.
2:39:53 I played through this multiple times and I always felt it was the better choice to kill Shimura too. But it's cool to consider the option to spare him could be theoretically correct as well
lol Jin wasnt shocked because Ishikawas student is female Jins aunt is literally a warrior how tf would a FEMALE student shock him because theyre FEMALE. He was only questioning how Ishikawa took a female commoner as a student because he rejected Jins application to be one in the past
I love that the use of the poison has consequences for Jin, with the Mongols using it against the civilians. It allows the player/Jin to ask the question if that method was worth it as it meant excruciating death for many Innocents.
the biggest plot hole in the story is the fact that either shimura is a dumb politician or a lousy general because he could have prevented both losing his heir and his legacy if instead of repairing the bridge he opted for a siege of the remaining castle
It's a shame that in real life the samurai were no better than raiders rapists and plunderers they were every bit as horrible as the Japanese World War 2 were I don't understand why these people are fetishized as they are It is a great game though
You have good voice but I became disinterested when your research disregards the actual dialogues in the story feels like you didnt even play the game. Do better next time thats why you have a low subscriber count, get beta critiques before uploading.
Yuriko’s quest line still brings me to tears. Every time I play through it, it genuinely breaks me as I’ve lost close friends here. But I like the fact that the Guiding Wind and the Golden Birds are personifications of loved ones.
I always see yuriko as a mother/grandma
Bruh how is this guy not more popular
Same here, stumbled on this channel a day ago and wondering the same thing.

@@philsplayground3755 same but like stumbled on him like 2-3 days ago an so far I’ve been kinda like binge listening to while I’m at work

He rarely posts and the span between vids are 5-9 months long. U can't grow a new channel with a release schedule like that
Your channel has been my go to for lore videos when I can’t fall asleep. Amazing content once again!
This video got me subbed. Praying this channel gets the recognition it deserves.

Amazing video, a lot of effort put in the video, thx TH-cam for recommending me this channel
Fantastic video on one of the great PS games. Well done, and thank you.
Your narrative work is on the level with the guys who have 6 digit sub counts. Great stuff, hope you keep it up
Haven't even watched it yet but just wanted to say I have reserved 2:45:08 of my afternoon today and I am PUMPED
Awesome video, you deserve all the views man. Keep up the excellent work!

Lots of respect for putting this together. I can imagine this video took a lot of work to produce.
Need to share this man as much as possible. Amazing!

Close enough, welcome back Joseph Anderson.
11:34 Shimura survived because Kohtun hit him with the pommel of the sword. You can barely see it, and I was confused for my first 2 playthroughs about that, but he just knocks him out really fast.

Just leaving a comment for the engagement as channel should be better known
Days Gone and Ghost of Tsushima are PlayStation best exclusives and the most deserving of sequels imo
sucks that days gone just got abandoned by sony over some dorky game critics leaving a bad yelp review
I literally *squeeed* when I saw this drop🎉🎉🎉🎉
Only 705 likes... nah this needs WAY more 🔥
I've watched all your videos. Great content. When's the next analysis?

If you really think about it Kazumasa sort of pushed Jin to become the ghost since the first thing he guided Jin to was Yuna
2:39:53 I played through this multiple times and I always felt it was the better choice to kill Shimura too. But it's cool to consider the option to spare him could be theoretically correct as well
Thank you for the wonderful video
I couldn't believe it when I found out that Khotun Khan's voice actor Patrick Gallagher was Coach Tanaka on Glee 😂
Amazing video! Love this game so much. Cannot wait to replay and a sequel
Just wanted to ask what armor dye is that for the sakai armor?
You know now that you bring it up, it is weird that Jin would ask a Mongol where she is has he decapitates them
Sony's Studio are amazing.
are you considering setting up a ko-fi or patreon? ur quality is sooo good
good video
Such a great game
Great
Only at the intro but damn this is a big chonky video
Comment for a boost in the algorithm
But where are the diverse characters?????
Clan Sakai was actually a real clan but not at the time ghost of Tsushima took place, they were real in the 14th century
Clan sakai even still exists. One of the last famous man in the branch being a pilot flying ace in ww2
lol Jin wasnt shocked because Ishikawas student is female Jins aunt is literally a warrior how tf would a FEMALE student shock him because theyre FEMALE. He was only questioning how Ishikawa took a female commoner as a student because he rejected Jins application to be one in the past
I always kills Shimura too. Great video.
That makes zero sense for the story

Somehow I got unsubed from your channel, because I've been waiting hear your latest video. I've now fixed the problem. Nice job.
i love my bland boy jin sakai 😭
Bland? You smoking?
English audio just feels off.
Imagine playing this game in English.
ngmi
Sometimes the dialogue is cliche and makes me cringe.
Like when?
It's a shame that in real life the samurai were no better than raiders rapists and plunderers they were every bit as horrible as the Japanese World War 2 were I don't understand why these people are fetishized as they are It is a great game though
