Amicia is one of the most tragic video game characters I’ve seen she lost literally everything she could. Across two games you really feel her childhood innocence and humanity slowly slipping away. By the end of requiem she was completely broken and a shadow of the person she once was. I also feel like she cut her hair short at the end not only as a sign of her new self but also because her hair is a painful reminder of Hugo because he use to put flowers in it so she cut it all off

Not finished watching the video yet, which is stellar btw. I would like to mention the importance of some quests though in that unless you don’t complete them you don’t get their help in the final battle. If you want Talahna then you need to complete the Hunters Lodge quest line. Erend’s quest is important because you get Avad on your side as well as Erend in the Final battle, Uthid, Nil, Sona will not be there unless you do their quest lines so it’s in your best interests to do so. HZD is one of those games where you get out of it what you put into it. Explore, read everything, listen to everything, watch everything. Speed running is absolutely not encouraged, the lore opens up, the more you discover and the richer the story and your experience.

I disagree on Erend’s quest line being side content. Sure you go further but it fits thematically with Rost lesson in Point of the Spear. Up to this point Aloy has been doing things for herself, even the Sora missions could be seen as both wanting revenge, not helping the Nora for the sake of it. Erend calls her out on this in Olin’s basement. Others have helped her, himself in letting her search the place. “Why should only you get justice?” He asks. Going on the quest is more than a loyalty mission, it expands Aloy. Showing her to care for more than herself and her own goals. Which also contrasts her to Sylens, who cares little for others that aren’t useful to him. But is a Seeker in a way.

The first game had me pining for the second game for so long. It had an emotional impact on me, but after finishing the second one I'm now totally broken. Part of me wishes I never played it. I finished it a week ago and I still haven't come to terms with what happened. Was not expecting that outcome at all and the music as well as voice acting should have won major awards. It is such an underrated game and the most beautiful I've ever seen. I'm a 50 year old man and am not ashamed at how emotional I got when it ended.

Regarding Regalla (hah), I've seen an opinion floating around online that I agree with. It's a shame that she's so... relatively one-note. It could've been fascinating to have her join the crew sooner, and actually have some character development rather than just staying a genocidal maniac. Having some time with Zo, who recounts chasing the Carja all the way to taking that border gate, and having found it didn't make her feel the way she thought it would, could've been a moment with Regalla where she reconsiders whether genocide would really fill the hole left by her brother's death. Similarly, with our quest with Talanah... There's another case of a Carja casting off her past and joining the Tenakth, and another case of Carja who didn't agree with what was being done. That could've been a fascinating story to time after Regalla joins, and having her declare she MUST see this Carja huntress that she doesn't trust, or thinks must be incredibly naive, and then encountering a Tenakth who turned her back on the Carja Sundom for all they'd done, yet also seeing a Carja Huntress who wants to help empower others to fight for themselves, and fight against any oppressors - and could even bring up her own family taking a strong stance against backing the genocidal Sun King, and how she wants to continue THAT legacy within the Carja Sundom, making sure that Avad, and any others after him, never stray from the light again. There could've been so much more acknowledgement of the pain that the Carja inflicted on others, emphasizing on the perspective of the victims, and varying space for forgiveness, anger, and everything in-between, and they COULD have explored that with Regalla. I'm not even sure if Regalla is aware of how the Sundom splintered, with a faction that tried to remain genocidal being FIRMLY put down by the current regime, and if that would've impacted her at all. For all that she was a character that caught my eye from the minute she showed up in promos, as well as how she shows respect for others' strength with how she treats Aloy, I thought it was a shame they didn't do more with her character than just have her be stuck on "an eye for an eye" and NEVER evolving past that. Also I love the universal hatred for Ted Faro the fandom has, wherein he is the absolute worst scum anyone can think of, and I've not really found anyone who thinks of anything regarding mercy in regards to how he should be/have been dealt with. In terms of HEPHAESTUS sticking around, yeah, I agree on it being pissed off making the most sense. My perspective was, with the increasingly deadly machines ramping up specifically to deal with hunters, not to mention its increasing frustration with Aloy getting into Cauldrons and their Cores, that it really doesn't like being tampered with. And not only were the Zeniths tampering it, but they were about to extract it from its entire system, not just merging it with GAIA, but of course taking it OFF the planet and away from the systems that it had built up. I viewed it as basically a case of "shiny toy I get to test (the printers) and also a don't you DARE fuck with me again" message moment for HEPHAESTUS, and I hope that for whatever presumed 3rd game, there are some moments with HEPHAESTUS wherein we deal not just the consequence of it being loose, but perhaps it having gotten a few new tricks from having been tapped into the Zenith systems, at least for a little bit. Something to make it a major obstacle to capture, even with a mostly complete GAIA, and something to help us ramp up to NEMESIS, being not on NEMESIS' scale, but still a major and crafty threat. I also could see if HEPHAESTUS was hoping that some of the machines might seriously injure, if not take out, Aloy, given how much she's been a thorn in its side. And yeah, Eric's showboating, to me, makes sense given other little datapoints we can find of him basically enjoying the thrill of killing, having shifted from just being a mercenary for cash to enjoying the murder itself. I kinda liked Gerard's abrupt ending, because it seems to nod at how many corrupt CEOs think of themselves as far more capable and intelligent than they really are. Him being really not that powerful, and mainly maintaining power because the Zeniths are the type that respected the power structure because that was all that gave THEM any sort of standing, really, could make sense to me. It also could serve as a moment where Tilda wants to set the tone of her explanation, without any potential "annoyance" that could poison Aloy against her, when she wanted to take Aloy with her. I do agree that a smaller mission with Sylens and Tilda could've been great for setting more hints, not to mention exploring both of their characters, which are complex but fascinating in a I-want-to-study-you-under-a-microscope way, as well as setting more seeds for NEMESIS. I will say the golden magical dust (nanomachines) did get a little bit of sprinkling in terms of the little bit we see in HZD of how the Faro Plague eats the world around them. A glimpse of something that swarms out and consumes things around it for resources, something that the Zeniths probably honed after getting some information with corporate espionage. With Burning Shores, I honestly think it's better to tackle it in a separate video. Burning Shores is a DLC, which means in my opinion, there is plenty of reason to examine how the game itself lands and completes, since the DLC is an optional purchase and came out later. Sure, it may add some stuff, and expand some understanding... but there's plenty to be examined within the main HFW game itself.

Thanks for the great summary, I'm about to play Forbidden West. So, that piece of lore where FARO corp hides from the public that machines ate endangered animals (on the brink of extintion), is revealing to me: "in emergencies" some things are expendables, animals are expendable, and humans too. So you'd think machines are coded in a way that prohibits eating humans, but... when you fight a war you are already killing humans, and of course "emergencies" happen, so you may want your machines to be able to feed on them; and right there you have the loophole, and it takes one glicht to go from animal extinction to full on EXCTINCTION.

As good as Requiem is, I think they dropped the ball in the characterization of the De Rune family (voice and looks). The way they sound, look and interact in this game seems more natural, more wholesome, and less like a Hollywood blockbuster. I have to suspend my disbelief hard to not see the change in characterization as a retcon

Great video, but I don't agree with you that much with the ending- As you've said, Zeniths are surreal. So why hating a surreal ending? I mean, isn't that the point? Isn't this why the series is insane success right from start? I feel like that it is almost perfect, with just a few very little details hurting it. For example- I was FAR MORE frustrated from the new crafting recipes for the ammo. Like, HOW TF you can suddenly craft bombs from machine muscle instead of vessels? It doesn't make ANY SENSE! That is the biggest issue for me. Other than that, the story and twist are definitely weird and unexpected, but that's exactly what drew me to these games at the first place.... 🧡
