This has to be the best AC timeline explained video I’ve seen so far. Concise yet very thorough and detailed, great video. Happy new year as well, keep serving the light.
I genuinely liked where the ancient trilogy went, telling us more about WHY the conflict is happening and WHAT exactly we are fighting over is so good. They definitely have their issues though, cant wait to get back to the Assassins story in Shadows
Just want to point out something. Eivor's full name is Eivor Varinsdottir. Dottir, in the language they would speak at the time, means "daughter of". So Eivor would be Eivor daughter of Varin. Kinda knew she was going to be canon from the start. Just to say this also, if the male had been canon, Eivor's name would be Eivor Varinsson, or Eivor son of Varin.
my favorite part of this lore breakdown is how you didnt just call stuff unimportant and completely skip it you still told us about the semi unimportant stuff and i LOVED that
Thanks for making this whole thing. It’s been a crazy journey playing the games and I felt like I couldn’t keep track of all the details as well as not having actually played EVERY game back to back. This was a great way to get back into the lore and play some of the newer games I’ve missed.
As it turns out, the tribe Eivor encounters in Vinland is the Kanien'kehá:ka tribe, the one Ratonhnhaké:ton (also known as Connor) is from in Assassin's Creed 3. Prior to becoming an Assassin, Connor learns that his tribe was protecting both the artifact and an Isu temple that was hidden in the region. The person Eivor was tracking in Vinland was attempting to use the artifact to access this vault. While Eivor didn't know the purpose of the Assassin's Creed artifact, it would go on to be protected by the tribe for generations. Remember when Eivor gave the piece of eden to the tribe.
You needa remember: the hidden blade was already a passed down artifact by time they got it in Origins, it came from Aya’s grandfather. You must understand that Darius only used it as a TOOL. But Aya & Bayek turned into a symbol
Perfect timing for those who have been living under a rock, and who knows maybe the new ac will help promote a 3 hour video of explaining the lore dope video tho loved every bit
This was very well done. I wish there was information about the comic plot lines as well, as it is very much canon and is referenced in the games. The 3 year gap between syndicate and origins was covered by such comics and featured the assassin’s and Templars eventually teaming up to defeat third party that was able to resurrect Juno. They stopped the Instruments of the First Will and killed Juno for good. Also, Desmond’s son was featured in the comics, he is also a sage, and was last seen walking in the Australian outback with the Koh-i-noor diamond which happens to be one of the most powerful pieces of Eden. So actually a lot happened during that three year gap lol, but I can understand wanting to stick to the storyline of the games. Still, well done!
@ yeah, I figured. I just thought I’d share a little info if there were some people who were unaware of what else occurred. I used to be up-to-date on all things AC, but I have not kept up with many recent novels, manga, comics, etc since becoming a father 3 years ago lol. Dunno, haven't finished Valhalla personally, but from what I've seen, War distracts from solar flares and- Okay, that last one was a satire ofc and this comment was not meant to be condescending, just wanted to see how well it could be put into bullet points
While the main alternate timeline version of events isn’t canon both Connor & George did mentally experience it & the encounter in the forest where they discovered the piece of eaden did happen. like how Ezio used the apple to experience possible futures off screen if he didn’t act on suspicions about the Templar’s..
Also I consider the crossovers between watch_dogs & Assassin’s Creed to be canon since the reason why Ubisoft has refused to commit to any kind of shared game universe is because of the uncertainty of the state of their entire company given how the stability of their business always seems to remain in flux & never certain. So Ubisoft’s been making sure every that every time they make a new game in any given franchise they frame it in such a way where it could be considered their last just in case their company goes under & the ground staff devs don’t wanna leave any loose story threads to leave the players hanging. While it’s understandable that for this reason they rather not narratively write themselves into a corner with pre planned multiple upcoming projects that could end up not actually coming to fruition & having to spend the next few entries cleaning up the mess of their cancelled projects they just made while they’re also trying to move on to the next project. In my opinion if they were making these projects Crossover in the first place then they should at least commit to making them all Canon. Especially when they’ve been very much well received & in this specific case it does Assassin’s Creed no harm to make watch_dogs canon since the watchdogs franchise has been completely abandoned anyway & it’s overall inclusion does enrich the overall AC Franchise with a new set of games.. Also it gives Ubisoft *an out* to not bother making an official modern day AC game since not just one but a whole trilogy of Moderately Successful Modern AC Games technically already exists..
This was very well explained, but you forgot to mention the ac lore of ac nexus vr game there’s quite a bit of lore that adds to the characters stories
1:21:16 "pretty cool escape" is his father, Haytham. You can find it in "AC Forsaken" book by Oliver Bowden. This book is actually a journal of Haytham which covers a lot before AC 3 and AC Rouge 1:33:56 Mr. Green is actually a son of the Arbaaz, the protagonist of AC Chronicles India. You can find it in the book b "AC Underworld" by the same author (it is actually a history of Mr. Green)
I'm not trying to go into every specific. I said "pretty cool escape" to get to the point. If I covered every little detail of how events happened, the video would be over 10 hours long. It's a timeline video sir, not a story recap. Also i'm confused with what your intention is with this comment. I've not made any mistakes so what's going on?
@TheHiddenOne690 just thought that those details are worth mentioning, nothing, more :) Really liked the video, that's for sure. Maybe cover somehow some recent books and comics while we wait for Shadows?
Sorry, just wanted to point what am I talking about, nothing more :) Also, if you didn't try these books, you should really give them a try. The story of Jennifer Scott (daughter of Edward Kenway) is truly heartbreaking. It is covered in AC3 and, surprisingly, AC Unity novels. Don't waste time on novels for AC1 and Ezio trilogy, as those simply retell the games. And all later books are expanding the games a lot
@@VikeyerI liked that The Secret Crusade actually elaborated on some past events regarding Altair, Abbas and their fathers. I don't think I ever really caught wind of these things in the games, as I recall reading the book was where I first came across it and it made me much more invested in their rivalry once I understood where it had come from. The books had a nice way overall of filling the gaps the games left behind, even the ones that were just adapting the games' stories.
Going to be honest, I feel like it says a lot about Ubisoft that they were never did anymore trilogies focused around a single ancestor like with Ezio. He truly was the peak
This video is amazing, and the timeline of this game is so interesting, i first played AC at 7/8 years and now im 21, but as a lil kid i didn t understand it completely, even after growing up and replaying nearly all games I didn’t understand, but this video is priceless! Amazing❤
Great and finally understandable timeline video. I only wish it would contain some more comic book material as it is sometimes important, for example Juno's death or Desmond having a son as well as the modern day story that led to this. There are also some WW2 and Cold War comics that show the beginning of Animus project. Same for some books like AC Heresy as it is set between templar burnings and AC2, connects with AC Unity lore and also ties together characters from games and AC Movie's modern day plot, as it happens right before this movie
Wow, amazing Video! The depth of research, the clarity of your presentation, and the effort you put into making it so enjoyable were truly remarkable. Happy New Year! 🎇🎉
Really good video but one big thing I felt was missed was AC Forgotten Temple being in 1725, covering Edward Kenways later adventures. Especially considering the upcoming Black Flag Remake and some of the factions from Shadow potentially being prequels to the stuff covered in the webcomic it felt missed. And whilst the story isn’t fully complete it does cover a lot of modern day aspects too.
in "watch dogs: legion", there are not only references to assassins creed but even a passage where you play as an assassin with a hidden blade. it makes it seem like more then a reference or cross over.
I just realized that every AC game is just a revenge-driven maze where each story is "getting revenge, then discovering the messy, and unclear TrUtH..."
Watched the whole thing, it was great! Would have been great to include the ending of Juno too, among the things that ended up in books, this one feels somewhat important as it's hyped so much in the games (and I'll be honest, not knowing what happened to this plot drove me crazy for years)
Not layla finished her life realizing the staff of Hermes pointed her to her death by Basim... I was so angry that i didn't play Mirage because of Basim
Awesome Work Man, wished you would have mentioned some more stuff from the comics and novels tho, especially Edward Kenways story in South East Asia in AC Forgotten Temple
@@TheHiddenOne690 That's completely valid, but I would've personally left out talking about Chronicles: India and Russia if you didn't want to include The Fall, The Chain and Brahman, since they really miss a lot of relevant context without having read those - just like Chronicles: China needs Embers. The Fall and The Chain's modern day story is also great additional context for Desmond's story and everything that follows it.
I'm an Archaeology student and my last exam was mythology. My main focus for exam was Roman names of Greek gods. Now I understand how AC lore relies on Roman gods like Juno (Hera), Jupiter (Zeus) and Minevra (Athena)...
I'm so happy someone enjoyed the hidden ones dlc just as much as me, like man it's lore rich the fact if u go on ac black flag there's the Desmond files where it says French revolution (meaning arno) and amniocentesis Egypt meaning byek
50:10 Agreed. That’s why Altair is the greatest Assassin to have ever come in the franchise. His legacy and impact has the been the biggest and longest lasting compared to any other Assassin (including Ezio) in a single lifetime.
I have been waiting for a vid like this for so long! But one thing that I can't get out of my mind is that wasn't Sigurd in Valhalla kind of made out to be the reincarnation of Tyr? With the missing arm, and him talking about being a god?
Narration: "Altair overthrew Abbas peacefully..." Video: "Use the gun to kill Abbas." I have no idea why, but this was stupidly hilarious to me. XD That said, less than half way through and this is an amazing video so far. I've seen a few that try to do the games in release order, but this chronological order makes a lot more SENSE so far since it's less jumping around and more order of events. Now, back to the video!
Haha i can see why that's a bit strange. It's more so how he avoided unnecessary bloodshed by just taking out abbas and that was it. That kind of peaceful :)
Now that I've finished it: WOW Wow wow. Wow. Wow. Very good work, my man! And man, the story isn't even necessarily over yet. That's...kind of crazy. Not that Ubisoft is consistently...uh...good with it. But when it strikes gold, the story does.
Hey man love your Videos a lot! Just wanting to ask if you can cover the subject 0-15. think it also is interesting to see how the earlier Animus Experiments went before 16
I loved the video but I feel you missed some lore. In Watch dog legions we their dlc where we play as an assassin and get some more lord in the Frye twins
I'd recommend AC1 and 2 then if they don't feel too outdated for you. Ofc you can just learn about the lore, but in case you wanna experience more of it, I think that's where you should go after the games you named. The first couple games introduced the lore really well, while the later ones mostly expanded on it, so it's understandable you'd be somewhat confused.
Had to look up Nexus, and finding out what it was, and it not being in this video, made me subscribe. VR exclusive games should not be canon. All those are is cash grabs from VR companies. (I personally dislike any “exclusive games” [looking at you, Nintendo] but the games that force you to buy the VR headset, and learn how to play a VR game, just to follow along with the story of a game series you like? Nope, not canon.)
@ that seems kinda petty. It’s kinda like saying “if I can’t have it no one can”. It’s like saying the ac movie is not canon because I don’t have Netflix. Not only is the game not a cash grab, especially because it’s fully fledged with good mechanics (not combat) but the story also is not offensive in any way. It simply fills in gaps in 3 character’s stories without changing the original story. And in the case of Ezio’s story, it gives a better story to the cult of Hermes. I get it can be frustrating for games to be exclusive because not everyone can access it, but it’s usually because the content is only possible on that console e.g. Astro Bot. This game is not only common sense to do because of its similarity to the animus, but it’s also impossible to do on a flat screen. Because it’s on VR. To say a story is not canon because an audience cannot access it is just stupid. If you want to know the story but don’t have the means to, instead of making it canon, it’s the perfect opportunity in a video like this to show the story
Happy New Year!

Narration: "Altair overthrew Abbas peacefully..."
Video: "Use the gun to kill Abbas."
I have no idea why, but this was stupidly hilarious to me.
But when it strikes gold, the story does.
love your content bro
1:07:00 future descendant 😁👍
There is nothing wrong with the hidden blade being before the assassins because in origins Bayek was given the blade. So makes sense
Watch Dogs isn't connected to the AC universe. It's been confirmed for years
@ Oh what’s was the point of that DLC then?
Just a fun easter egg
Didn’t Basim came from constatinople in AC Valhalla? So by the time of Altair surely they were already assassins there.
Happy New year 🎉
Happy new year!!
1:39:00 Juno appeared throughout as well which was great for more information
Happy new year
Happy new year!!
I've played Syndicate, Black Flag, Odyssey, and Orgins
Loved all of them, but the story confused me in a way that left me wanting more
I'd recommend AC1 and 2 then if they don't feel too outdated for you. Ofc you can just learn about the lore, but in case you wanna experience more of it, I think that's where you should go after the games you named. The first couple games introduced the lore really well, while the later ones mostly expanded on it, so it's understandable you'd be somewhat confused.
@Fleepwn
Honestly, as long as a game is fun to play and has a good story, I would be happy to play it no matter the graphics.
Ie) Fairg
That's insane!
Wait, did you include Assassin's Creed Nexus? I got to Ezio's story and realised I didn't hear anything about it
Had to look up Nexus, and finding out what it was, and it not being in this video, made me subscribe.
3:10 but modern humans have been around for at least 200k years.
