If Spain were an instrument, it would be a guitar. And if it were a concert, it would be the Aranjuez concert. After having listened to so much of Paco... it is time for you to listen to his interpretation in this concert. Paco spent several days locked up with a classical guitarist to learn each and every detail...
, with very complex passages. Among the audience at the concert were dozens of classical guitarists, watching every single note, every single mistake, every single flaw. He had none. Joaquin Rodrigo, the composer, was also there. Paco said afterwards that he had never been so nervous.
But first you have to know what that concert represents... the pinnacle of Spanish classical music.
Joaquin Rodrigo and his wife spent their honeymoon in Aranjuez, hence the name of the concert. Some time later they went to Germany. There they were expecting their first child. The child was stillborn, and his wife nearly died.
The 2nd movement of the concert represents the composer's anger with God for his wife's miscarriage, and he asks God for her to survive. It is a dialogue between him (the guitar) and God (the orchestra). In the background, always the pulse of a beating heart, that of his wife between life and death. There is grief, anger and despair. In the end, at the climax of the guitar and the orchestra, he "hears God" and finally there is the acceptance of the destiny God has given him.

I had the Fuente y caudal LP where this one appeared and since those days back in the mid seventies Reflejo de luna has been one of my favorites. Is very moving to hear you talk about this music like you do and expand the flamenco culture. These days here in Spain has come out an special edition of the first recordings of Paco in a duet format with his singer brother Pepe. They were about 11 and 13 years old at that time, and although he still had not reached the peak of his art he plays an amazing guitar while Pepe sings out his guts as an accomplished flamenco singer in spite of his young age.So in the video we see a young Paco ,may be in his 30es he already had a career behind him

I would love to get some Paco on vinyl because I feel it would really capture the tiny nuance in his playing! The way he is able to produce emotion and tell a story with the guitar the way he does is unmatched! I can totally understand why he is such a legendary icon! Do you have an album you would suggest? I'm sure there is quite a few to pick from....

@@TheKillogicEffect Hello,it´s not easy to pick just one. There´s the "Fuente y caudal" lp from 1973,all flamenco stuff plus Entre dos aguas. In 1981 he released the LP "Yo solo quiero caminar",with his brother Pepe on vocals in the title theme and the addition of electric bass, flute and percussion.Nobody had done anything like that before. There´s "Siroco" lp from 1987 and "Luzia" from 1998.This one is one of my personal favorites and Paco even dares to sing a verse in two of the songs dedicated to the late Camaron and to Paco´s mother Luzia recently deceased. Thanks again for helping to spread flamenco culture.

      You're welcome !
Something else you pointed out that's often overlooked about Paco, we are so mindblown by his unbelievable speed and technique that we almost always forget to appreciate the genius of a melodist he was. Flamenco guitar has that unique expressive traditional sound and he pushes that to the level where it takes you on an emotional journey . BTW, This is even more true in his studio albums than in live performances (where he always tries to mix parts from multiple pieces and the melodic structure gets a bit "watered down").

you see flamenco guitar was supposed to be a very simple instrument but sabicas was the first one to truly show people what a flamenco guitar is capable of
and then Paco, Vicente, tomatito and many others
one of the only guitarists that carried the Moron style and the true essence of flamenco was Diego del gastor
fortunately there's some videos of him on TH-cam
