@@THUGPUTIN I agree with the RE 650 part. But how are the Duke's 399cc, Triumph's 399cc (chain-sprocket on right side) and Dominar/Pulsar's 373cc similar? Care to explain?
The 20BHP OG 2007 Pulsar 220 DTS-Fi was priced at 82,800. Adjusted for 6% inflation for 17 Years, the amount is equivalent to Rs.2,18,800. The launch price of the Pulsar NS400Z is Rs.33.8k lower than the inflation adjusted price of the 20BHP flagship Pulsar of 2007.
Yea, but that's not the point.. What is the actual point of having a 400cc bike that is meant to be a commuter, that looks like a 200cc bike , yet will return only 28km/L ?
@@VeganSanatani It costs roughly the same as the Gixxer 250 / MT15 / Honda CB300F / Classic 350 / Karizma XMR / Duke 200 / RC 125. Given the performance, this is definitely a lot more exciting than these *similarly priced bikes*. It also gets bragging rights. You have a 400, not a 350 that 20k+ people get every month.
Oh My God. Seriously. This is sheer eye opening session. I thought, me as a Rider need to just know and care about the bike and that only but it is not the case anymore. I seriously can't go back to any other basic review of a motorcycle at all. You folks have not only changed the bike/car game but you took the bloody format and burnt it crisp. I really really am surprised at how much i have learned about the automotive industry. I am seriously thinking and suggesting shumi and kartik to start a masterclass in how to do motorjournalism and if you do so, let me be the first candidate. Literally speechless on the sheer breakdown of the bike and industry by large.
+1, I agree, all these reviewers are just clones of each other, for ex, power drift, bikewaale, zigwheels etc. they all feel the same but motor inc is something else entirely. Screw the numbers, these guys are the benchmark for motorcycle reviews.
@@motorinc sir request you to please release content in hindi too. Your knowledge about automotive is so deep. But in indian viewvership hindi is major language. So please create/ release content in hindi language too. Great work
My cousins' friends and me were talking about this bike and he said that the price is very low and i told him that is because most of the part are recycled. He asked me if i watched motornic because i was criticising the bike , i told him that if we as buyers keep expecting less from the brands , change will never happen ❤
Business doesn't work like you thought. Re-using parts is a great strategy. You shouldn't criticise only because the price is kept low, bring real points. As far as I see, a lot of young and entry level riders will enjoy this bike. What's your issue?
@@AayushKarwatkar i have a big problem at all , it's just the people label that it's 'cheap' whenever someone tells them about the problems about the bike .
I don't even have a motorcycle.. it's a dream I'm still waiting to live and yet I watch all these hour long conversations about bikes (and cars too sometimes). Shumi and Kartikeya, you guys have brought out this thing in me which even I didn't know existed.. Thanks to the whole Motorinc team.. it's your format, presentation, scripting and that editor, yll pulled me into this world of automobile. Today I don't even own a single vehicle and yet somehow I'm so fond of them and the credit goes to you guys. I really hope one day I'll be able to meet Shumi and Kartikeya.. spend some time with you people and learn even more. Thank you guys
9/10 for the quick summary. I liked the phrase where shumi said, the moment you buy a motorcycle and bring it home the value for money factor goes out the window
@@VarunGoud07 doesn't matter. the moment you start dailying a bike and you don't enjoy it, you'd absolutely regret every penny you spent and hate yourself for not spending that extra money. Hence, vfm doesn't matter even if it feel like it does.
I still remember that crazy pulsar 200 DTSi ad shot in a street. Pulsar meant something else back then. It was aspirational. Wat an era it was, we had Pulsar, Karizma and Apache. 😍 🔥
I think Bajaj is doing this deliberately so they don't eat into sales of aggressive premium bikes of ktm and truimph a well. They’ve accepted their position of mass market product only appealing to non-passionate buyers through price, who looks forward to talk about the bike to their relatives rather than enjoy and ride it. Just on point for Bajaj!
“Definitely mild, not daring.” This is something that now all Bajaj products have turned into. I feel they should start to venture with KTM for twin-cylinders on budget if they really want to bring that spark of excitement of the old days. And as usual summary is just on point 10/10.
I just realized something! I don't need to see the bike going around the track or anything! I can just listen to these videos, think of them as podcasts, and they cover everything a person wants to know about a new bike!! Great job, y'all!
The way Shumi Defined Value for money actually fits for almost every purchase decision 😎😎 You gotta love the product first and then consider it's value for money but sadly most people look the other way around.
The best thing about NS200 and RS200 were that their performance was close to their KTM cousins Duke 200 and RC 200. NS400Z doesn't seem to that kind of a bike which can compete with Duke 390. Bajaj should have at least used Gen2 43Bhp engine and cut some unwanted crap like riding modes. If there is another variant of NS400 coming as per rumours, then that should be an aggressive looking and aggressive performing machine
exactly my thought!had same expectation that it would be a bargain duke 390 gen 2 performance,i wont hesitate installing an aftermarket ECU or atleast remap stock ECU for punchier performance
@@motorinc yeah I could feel that throughout the conversation. But I guess that shows the overall state of what the brand Bajaj has in the market. They need to start focusing on their own portfolio rather than rely on other brands. Having owned the first RS200 I know that I was looking forward for a more powerful 400cc bike in that range but that never happened.
i think what Shumi is missing that it is for the people who lacks the budget to buy a duke 390 or any costlier motorcycle, but what it offers against 1.85 lacs is super great and it can be recommended to anyone who wants a bike in this budget segment, period.
Bhai 400cc motorcycle performance enjoy karne ke liye lete hain & shumi said take a test ride & if u love riding it then only purchase & not because it is priced low
Or someone wanting bigger bike for cruising comfortable and overtaking on the faster roads now with decent handling etc. Reliability and comfort and it will sounds good. No where to push a bike round corner here.
i respect shumi a lot , but in this particular case he was making it very hard to understand, that's it, that's why I added this comment as a bottom line
I posted a comment on some video of yours that I will buy your membership the day you post a review for the pulsar400z and you posted the review and I bought your membership, good trade. great review.
Guys, Like seriously this is the best review of the NS 400Z on the internet. TH-cam is filled with top speed runs and what not But your review is such an exception. Salute to you guys🫡🫡
But if you are looking a bike for Indian scenario than buy a 150 cc to 250 cc bike. why do you need a 400cc bike that looks like a 200cc bike, made to be a commuter bike and will cost you more money on fuel..?
Because I have ridden dominar 400 in highway and it was wonderful, and that engine is reliable. No 200 or 250 cc match that in highway. And this ns 400 is not a replacement for ktm 390 or MT03,This bike is for those who want a excellent bike in a price range of 2lakh.
@@shuvankarroy7275 I owned dominar and also Suzuki 250. But Dominar is worst when the speed is less than 70kmph. Suzuki had very smooth engine, very good in both low speed and high speed. I could cruise all the day above 100kmph with a butter smooth SOCS Engine which does not fry my legs.
Although i still enjoy these 2 going about trying to give us all the information, i think there is a bit of disconnect with what the positioning of the bike / target audience is. The price is a big give-away on this front. Its basically a typical pulsar i.e. a sporty looking commuter. It is basically targeted at people who are maturing from a 150-200. So a right comparison for this would ideally be a Duke 250 and not a 390 and thats why when Shumi says its a good 250 not a 400 i think he is bang on. The marketing team from Bajaj would be blessed if they watched this and decided who their target audience is.
If i had a shot everytime shumi took a shot at the dominar, i would drink enough to forget that i own one and i really really like it and then i would join him in accepting the flaws of that bike :-)
my brother brought an ns400Z on 13th may, after riding it for a month or so he also thought it was sluggish and lacked the punch in lower end. We decided to got some mods done to the bike like 1. replacing the tires, we went for Michelin Pilot series as it was in our budget 2. replaced fuel filters , as a result the milage has been reduced a little bit . 3. also added an POWERTRONIC ECU and kept the stock muffler tho we get quite a bit low rpm jerks thanks to that
@@motorinc The bikes overall performance has gotten really good we had to adjust the rare suspension to the hardest settings to get the best high speed performance , the engine no doesn't feel sluggish in sports mode and it actually feels sporty as it should be we faced a few problems too , like the milage dropped by 8-9 kmpl and the low rpm jerks while riding above 3rd gear increased exponentially. overall the bike has become Really enjoyable compared to the Stock hope this helps ❤️🩹
@@bestcocbaseswithlink5069 we used to get around 25-27 kmph while riding hard in the city , if you have prior experience of riding lets say an 125cc bike then yes it will feel like an substantial upgrade but not in terms of quality , if you compare it to my scrambler 400x i does not hold a candle, if not i would recommend R15 or MT15 they are amazing motorcycles in this price point of NS400z . They may seem underwhelming on the spec sheet but you will be in love after test riding them. have a nice day
Kartik's expressions were priceless. We can have a compilation of kartik's expression. hahaha! And yeah, as everyone is also saying, the value for money 400cc, feels a bit odd to me. I think a customer buying a 400cc motorcycle, looks for a reasonable price with awesome experience rather than "this is the cheapest 400cc there is".
Karthik and Sumi let bring your notice I have ridden Pulsar 150 DTS-i UG2 for 15 years and trust me guys the instant pickup and acceleration was at par and I am talking about the very next series just after the Hamara Bajaj Blue logo migrated to the metallic grey and with the mag wheels and at that time Hero Honda CBZ was very famous and making its origin very very famous that time we knocked with bang ❤️🌹
Man, what a clear statement "Think of it as a powerful 250 rather than a weak 400". I think it was a very strong perception that the market had about this product, which it is perhaps but only when we get the price in the talks, which is not what a product should be at the end of the day, as "We don't ride value for money home". The product might end up doing great in sales and it could be great for those who really want the 400 tag today when a sporty 150cc comes around the same price. Great breakdown of the product, amazing insights of why the price is so well managed, and a clear perspective of what a customer should expect from this Bajaj. Also I do feel that Bajaj really needs to go all out with atleast one product in their lineup, with max performance and give it the best equipment, but again there is KTM for that and for a better feeling Bajaj we have the Triumph. All this is making Pulsar a commuter brand now rather than an enthusiasts choice. Another great Motorinc First, It's always great watching both of you. Also, Shumi having the MotorInc logo as his watch face is great!
I am slowly starting to get why some folks on r/indianbikes have, let's say, not ideal takes on motorinc lol. On the other hand, I love this channel, deep nerdy discussion about motorcycles from people I know that are well experienced and aren't just bluffing
@@confused.cat. i know right ... iI love the fact that they give their opinion, that's why i am here for .. i am not experienced so, They also says all bikes are good for different people. Dominar is not predominantly bad ... but. Dmm i testrided one .. and the power is good but it's heavy as fuc.
@@arthurkenfleck-vf5nb i dont think so .. the ns200 review was on point and old n250 has quite a good review .. just thik about it there are a lot of bikes with soo less to differentiate
I recently bought a Duke 390,still hasn't received it from the showroom..will get it soon. After the NS 400 prices came out I was wondering should I have waited a little longer for a test ride..but after Your review I guess I made the right purchase...
You are delusional to compare two bikes in very different segments/category. If you are confused in between a Duke 390 or pulsar ns400z then you don't know what you really want lol. You should understand yourself better.
Naah duke 390 is the one if you've made all those arrangements already. The new 390 is so good Aprilla and Kawasaki had to do new 450cc engines to compete globally.
Hello to all the MotorInc team 👋 Just wanted to thank you all because as a foreigner (not Indian) who married an Indian woman and who live in India, I finally found an Indian youtube channel in English that explains everything about the bikes that are actually in the Indian market with such professionalism. After living a few years in India with a car, I finally want to buy a bike because of the traffic and because it match my needs more than a car now. And it's so hard to choose in this new market for me without the help of someone who knows deeply about motorcycles. It will be my first motorcycle in my life, and your videos help me a lot to make my choice. Planning to buy probably in August. In other countries people buy bikes just as an extra vehicle or just for fun, but in India I can really see that motorcycles have a special place in the heart of Indians, because it meets a practical need but also a passion. I even watch your videos just for the pleasure now just to learn more about motorcycles, and I became passionate too 😊 Thank you for your passion and hard work and for bringing this content for people who lives in India in a language that I can understand better ❤
Hey Emerick! That's such a great message to read! We're very excited to welcome you to the wonderful world of two-wheels. When you're ready to buy, please do ping us, we'd love to help you find a bike that really works for you!
@@motorinc Thank you for this kind message. Will let you know when I am ready to buy, I am still trying to choose☺️ And thank you again for your hard work.
@@motorinc Just in case you know, there is rumors about the new KTM Duke 200 2024 coming soon. Do you have any informations about that ? Just to know if I should wait before making my final choice.
This was the most interesting 'First' ive watched. I feel like ive been short changed yet i dont feel cheated. I think Bajaj are on to something here. Theek hai, it doesnt behave like a Duke, and is much more mellow, buy theree no replacement for displacement and this really has democracised the power of that engine/displacement. And i really appreciate that. I understand that this seems like Bajaj is doing the Kawasaki thing, and showing a 'Ninja300' down the ignorant Indian consumer's throat, mut maybe theyre really onto something. I think Kawasaki would also do well to price their 300 lower, and form a new segment of sorts, where they compete with the Pulsar 400, Honda 300, Duke 250 ranges(including the race/adventure versions of these platforms if and when they come).
Hi @leakedzebra! Thanks for your take but Shumi believes that the Ninja 300 shouldn't even exist. It's a >10 year old motorcycle at this point. As for NS400Z, as they say, it definitely does have the potential to be a good bike but we're gonna have to see where they take it.
The search for my next motorcycle continues, sigh. Here's the back story. I owned a Yamaha R15 v2 from 2014-2018, went abroad for 4 years and returned in 2022. While the new R15 is great, the riding position is too committed and now I'd like a more powerful bike. The CB300R is beautiful but feels too small, Speed 400, same thing, Scrambler 400X is great and probably the one that I've loved the most so far but the vibes beyond 6k RPM bothers me. I completely agree with Shumi's assessment of this character of the Triumph twins, it's so effortless below 6k but turns into a totally different motorcycle post 6k. Long stroke engines are too 'boring', maybe I'll like them in the future, one day. The Duke 390 is too manic, too aggressive. The Aprilia RS457 is lovely, but the riding position is still too committed. Maybe the Tuono if and when it comes would be the one for me? Time will tell. With the NS400, I probably expected more. I loved riding the BS4 NS200, a bigger more sophisticated version of the same with 90% of Triumph levels of quality was maybe too much to expect at this price point. 2 years in and the search continues. Maybe I'm just too picky 🤷🏻!
Thanks for sharing your take @VineetBhombare! It's not a light decision so take your time. If you haven't already, consider the new Himalayan? We think it might surprise you so take a test ride and see what you think.
@@motorinc The Himalayan is intriguing, I will take a test ride soon. Most of my riding would be in the city (Bengaluru), is it nimble enough for the city? Any opinions?
One thing to note is that the people who have not ridden Ktm 390's etc might not even notice the gentleness of this bike. And we cannot ignore that many of us can buy this today, on cash, while we cannot buy Duke 390 even after a year or two.
We need similar kind of media while talking about politics, no nonsense, straight on to the point. Highlight what is good as good, what is bad as bad and what is worse as worse. Kudos guys. Cancelling my booking for NS
Sticker price warriors will love this as I loved my 1st gen Dominar which I got for 1.75L on road but after 4 years of owning it I grew tired of all the compromises in quality they had made and I developed hatred for bajaj products and I'm pretty sure this bike would be just the same. I've shifted my focus from buying anything just based on price to getting products with quality.
Most intelligent and intellectual conversation. This will be biggest channel in not only India but also in the world. I m hear from 12k subscribers but never comment this one is first. It's a pleasure to have you two in bike community❤…
I have been driving 2/4 wheelers since 10/May/2006. Now I own NS-400z as 5th bike. I liked Hunter-350 in sight on road and there ends the story for it. NS-400z - as I witness everyday, is a head-turner. I went for the features more than visual treat and it amazes me with engine performance and features esp. Liquid-Cooling Engine, a boon in everyday commute. Last but not least it has an amazing suspension, may be the reason I started to like after riding for more than 4k KMs. P.S: I would have gone with Hunter-350 if it were to come with ==>> Liquid-Cooled-Engine / Ride-By-Wire / Power-Torque%Weight / Ride-Modes / Low-Rake-Angle / Light-Weight / Suspension ==>> Final-Go - Price.
A Disconnect episode on Tyre, Tyre Brands, Tyre Choice, Tyre Care etc for 2 wheelers and 4 wheelers would be absolutely wonderful and informative. Its the most important and only part of the vehicle that is connected to the road and mostly ignored.! *Just a suggestion*
I think the gentle Sports map is implemented because Bajaj were looking for reliability to make the engine last longer than usual. Keeping in mind that the average commuter won't be as particular about maintaining the service intervals, maybe?
I think I need to step on here and make things easy for others. I was planning to get a NS 200. I have good experience with many 150 cc and RE Classic 350/ Thunderbird. But my budget was that of the NS 200. Maintenance, mileage everything was just perfect for me. What I didn't like was the old design, lack of modern features like USD, etc. I wanted a mix of performance for daily office runs and something that could do 4-5 long tours every year comfortably without feeling boring. The NS 200 was the only thing that justified my needs. Now the NS 400 gave me much more power, features, freshness. Of course it's not not at all at par with other 400 cc bikes. But as an entry level 400, nothing matches it. So comparing it with the latest 390 Duke makes no sense. As Shumi mentioned, it performs like a really great 250 cc. And that's it. The mileage, performance, Maintenance, everything explains the price. And honestly, if bajaj made this bike with the current or last gen duke engine, gave it all the awesome quality stuff, the price would have gone up drastically and no one would buy a 3 lakh plus inr Pulsar. It's the perfect upgrade from 200 cc bikes and towards more premium high capacity bikes. If you are looking for raw ktm or ninja performance, don't go for the Ns 400. But plz don't compare as well. Makes no sense at all.
I mean you have ridden very high cc bikes so this makes sense, but if anyone is coming from below 300cc bike, this bike is actually pretty good, power and response is really good till 120-130 km/hr.
Great Video as Usual🤩🤩 1. I cannot digest the fact that a 400 is not aggressive. I do think a commuter can be aggressive. 2. I think manufacturers really need to focus on Instrument console designs. It should look modern but most importantly it should be user friendly and make life of a rider easy. It should feel like using an apple smartphone ( simple and easy to adapt ) rather than an android full of bloatware and ads. 3. Both of them should mention the routes they took on videos. It was a great touch. 4. Other media houses and TH-camrs have reviewed the NX 500, Transalp and 800 DE. Will be awesome The Motorinc ones of them. 5. Since ThisConnect is back, Can I expect Motorinc Garage videos soon ? Waiting for Shumi's Multi video. 6. And finally, This video was a great Birthday gift for me. Great work The Motorinc team and keep it up.
Happy birthday Sidarth! 1 and 2: Agreed! 3. Feedback noted! 4. NX500 dates awaited. The larger bikes were not convince that the current formats are good for larger, lifestyle machines - we're working on this, 5. Request noted 6. Once again, happy birthday!
Tested out the Mavrick 440, Scram 411 and Vstrom Sx 250, booked the V strom loved the engine it was smooth af probably the Smoothest engine on anything I have ever ridden with pretty good acceleration and not bad torque at low revs and the road presence was awesome with everyone on the road staring up at me lol. It price may be unjustified for the equipment but it super justified after you have ridden it and had fun with it looking forward to the delivery.
@@bhanupatil6034 Honestly the variance in quality levels.... The bikes I tested had quality levels that varied tremendously the first one had way sharper brakes that felt really uncomfortable to ride with but had a better suspension set up but had vibration the entire rpm band while the 2nd one had much better brakes but much harsher suspension set up alongside vibration at lower Rpm levels which got better at higher gears..... Another reason is my father already own a retro bike in the honda h'ness 350 so i wanted something different and always had an eye for advs so the V strom it was tho the mavrick is a very low end torque machine which feels much lighter than it is so it might be a good purchase but i will say wait till October atleast if u plan to buy it cause right now I can't say I trust the quality levels. Cheers have a great day.
Last standout pulsar was RS200. After that, Pulsars became less of a enthusiast bike and more of a money making machine for Bajaj. I really don't understand why Bajaj is killing this Pulsar brand in the name of low price. Is it to protect KTM sales? Is it due to KTM pressure? What is Bajaj really afraid of when it comes to launching a true Pulsar? I own NS200, and I feel lucky to have one of NS200 or RS200, because these were the last Pulsars which Bajaj made with passion for biking. It hurts to see my favourite Pulsar brand's downfall like this
I want to hear shumi in a full Hindi episode, because with the words he sometimes used it felt Northern India but the accent takes it back to southern India, at the same time he has great great fluency in English. So listen to me MotorInc if ever in the next 10 year Bajaj convinces itself to give pulsars a new better console with a new feature of voice assistant, ask shumi to become our personalized voice assistant.❤❤❤️
Bajaj, at its core lineup of Pulsars especially, has positioned itself as the Zudio of motorcycles, ubiquitous and accessible to all, offering a taste of contemporary & bridge fashion to all, on two wheels. That's very good n all from a PnL & cx footfall perspective it keeps their bottom line revenue stable and flowing which allows them to reinvent, innovate and also push for premium/niche segments as well (KTM/Triumph) and strategically it makes 100% sense. And even though its not like they are losing their own identity but it surely is getting affected and hence, innovation, reinvention, etc. happens at the topline for Bajaj (evidently - KTM) Is the intent with the bike good? Atleast from where I stand - yes. Why? 1) Bajaj is enabling access to powerful and competent motorcycle for the masses who are eager and energetic to reach it. 2) By making the NS400Z a bit mellow they made sure that people look at this as a option in this price range as with a similar demeanor but a more capable motorcycle which would win the spec sheet battle for sure (for some people - which gives footfall - which gives revenue) 3) This gives Bajaj more latitude to explore and introduce variants which again will target the masses and keep the interests high. And Pulsars always were the Thrill for the masses. And Bajaj with their Triumph and KTM's are just doing that along with Pulsars and Dominars. 4) The pricing, feature set and part's sharing clearly suggests that it is meant and made to be a access enabler for the masses. So from a PnL, Strategy and Marketing perspective - everything is nice! The problem: 1) Lacking identity, being distinguishable or aspirational. 2) Lacking the zeal and zest of what the Pulsars initially were and even more so compared to the NS200 and/or KTM's 3) This "PnL" oriented strategy if not done right ... can result in a decline over the years in interest and aspiration - its already showing as except the NS200 (so far).. gone are the times when people discussed or got excited about Pulsars. (THEY DON'T EVEN FEATURE IN THE YT DRAG RACING COMMUNITY ANYMORE 🥲😜) But atleast, Bajaj has a solid topline to keep this going. KTM and now Triumph.
May be true @adrishmajumder9878 but those vehicles will be looked at as KTM and Triumph vehicles, not Bajaj's own. So, it's imperative that Bajaj realizes that and streamlines their offerings.
Ktm and triumph are ktm and triumph, they are not Bajaj, simply building sub 400 cc engines for their bikes don't mean ktm and triumph are Bajaj bikes, CF moto makes ktm's engines, don't mean people look at those bikes as CF moto. Aside from affordable commuters, Bajaj needs to make a good premium bike that looks premium. Look at CF moto, in recent years they have made a name for themselves in the western motorcycle market.
If you're not an auto journalist and did not get the invite from Bajaj to ride the NS400z, just listen to this review discussion. You won't miss riding the motorcycle at all. In fact, after watching this video I think I know exactly what the bike is like, how it rides, how it feels, so much so that I don't even feel like test riding the bike at a dealership. Brilliant discussion guys. Always a pleasure. ❤❤
One thing I love about this channel - mention of emotions. Hahaha In a global world of 4 wheelers, emotion matters a lot to two-wheel owners. So does agresssion, and so does throttle response.
Couple of points. 1. The pricing difference between the Duke390 and NS400Z clearly indicates the cost that goes into engineering something exciting. 2. This is a magic of BOM sharing resulting in a super cheap 400cc bike. 3. As you have mentioned towards the end regarding the supply chain guy taking decisions, made me think on DFx elements that are given so much importance in engineering a product like design for manufacturing/assy etc. There is something called as DFSC - Design for supply chain; seems like this bike is great example of over-optimization for DFSC. As always, great content, video production and knowledge!!
Ha gotcha.....welcome to E20 bikes......😅😅......i bought an E20 bike and straight went to showroom telling them throttle response is about zero....they ended up laughing saying bhaiya bs4 tha kya isse pehle....isme aisa hi hota hai. Same with fuel economy... Super bad before 400 km... Also give this bike a second service ... And only and only after that it will give a better throttle respnse, like 10% better and 50% better fuel economy . Also premium fuel is a must for these kinda bikes.....thats what i have noticed so far with E20 bikes.
I just love how Shumi gets honest and to the point. He really feels the emotion of what he is trying to put across. Same goes with the Japan episode! Marvellous!
Why do people, especially Shumi, criticize the Dominar 400 so much? I have ridden that motorcycle, and it’s perfect-powerful and comfortable for touring.
The biggest education I've received from Schumi is "Price and VFM vanishes the moment you leave the showroom" And I knew I'd truly learnt when I was not excited just by the pricing of this bike. Not that I don't appreciate the pricing and democratization of the enthusiasts space.
I want to meet the guy that designed the meter consoles of the new pulsars and want to know in which universe are they good looking Frankley, the old digital analog cluster looked better
I blame those reviewers who always say digital>analogue or "isme bluetooth nahi hai". For some bikes Analogue is better like old R3 ninja 300 ninja 400 looks better than ninja 500 or new R3
Just got my test rides on the N250 and NS200 yesterday. Decently long test rides. Rode them on the same road. High traffic. Empty private road 1km section with sharp corners. My opinion - These are both potent bikes. Loved the engines❤❤ Both of them. Different feeling to each other. But amazing ❤ I liked the chasis on the NS200 more than the N250 But the wider tyres makes the behaviour of the bike while applying the brakes on the N250 very stable and controlled while the NS200 seems to get upset if you apply the brakes too hard. It might be lack of skill from my side this being my first purchase. But even though the engine and chasis on the ns is better than the n. The lack of confidence on the brakes on the ns makes me actually ride the n harder than the n. What do you guys think?
400z bruh cus 40bhp is 40 bhp, paying 30k more for 60% more power than NS 200 seems reasonable. In the long term this bike will last more than any 200-250cc.
So after watching the review, this is my opinion: For those of your looking for your first bike and have a budget of 2 lakh 50 , (cost of the 400z with Bangalore taxes ) instead go for the 200 learn all the fundamentals and use the remaining money to get good gear .
I'll be upgrading from an Apache 160 4V. Will this be a Worthwhile upgrade for me.?? Or will it be a better upgrade for someone coming from the TVS Raider 125.??
Its impossible to walk into a bajaj showroom and get a test ride. Even if you beg them for a test ride they might give you a 1 minute spin around the block. I was a ns200 owner, never again buying a Bajaj just because of how the showroom guys treat the customer. Even when i bought the ns200 they refused me test ride and i had to buy it just by sitting on the bike parked in the showroom.
@@sorcerermax5111 absolutely. I loved the ns200. Still puts a smile on my face once it's above 7k rpm. But it's their showroom and sales guys that I have a problem with.
Bruh that's a showroom thing not service centre. Just go to a different showroom? My dad had a horrible time at a land rover showroom, guess what we did? We went to a different one and it was fine
@@yellowflash511 my city has multiple Bajaj showrooms, I've been to about 3-4 showrooms, experience was the same. They just don't want you to test ride. I never mentioned service center once.
16:32 Went ahead and took a test ride. I was at the showroom for a different reason and I managed to convince the showroom guy to give me a test ride. Although, it was not more than 10KMs since I was not purchasing the bike anyway, I just wanted to experience the bike. For perspectives, I am riding a 160cc Apache RTR for 10K KMs and frequently riding NS200s, KTM390s, R15s borrowed from friends. Verdict: Vibrations are an issues, yes, something I could immediately feel right from starting the bike but I believe the front brakes are a huge safety concern. I mean I have fitted ceramic front brake pads in my RTR160 and when compared to that, NS400 brakes are downright unsafe for a 40bhp bike, I believe. And this bike should not be going to the less experienced people, they will run into trouble.
i have one question then, if milage is not an issue then what should i go for r15 mt15 gixxer 250 sf or the gixxer 250 or ns 400 , .. any other bike budget no more than 2.2 L non streachable ..i want a machine that will help me grow
Enjoyed the conversation.. my R15 wants me to go for a spin after listening to this over lunch. But the audio engineer in me wants grab a EQ and cut some 300hz on Shumi's microphone so it's less muddy, remove some rumble and get more clarity out of it before grabbing the keys ;)
Bajaj bikes are VFM, bang on bucks, easy to maintain and great fun to ride. Being a Dominar owner for past 4 years, I can vouch for it. The bike has its disadvantages, but it's a great tourer and has never failed, even once. Would love to know, what happens with Dominar series next?
This is an channel who also suggests where to invest and where not to... just like zee business for share market❤ Thorough investigation done just like CID for vehicle industry❤️🔥 Late post than other youtubers but definitely their intention not focused on views but truth filled discussions 🎉 In love with your channel❤❤
Shumi, the fuel insistence is also a feature of Dominar400. The moment fuel level hits two bars the message not only shows up as amber alert but starts to display in the gear info tab on the main screen, its truly an annoying feature. Although there should be over 3 to 5 liters of fuel still left in the tank yet the warning is up. This could be because of two reasons: 1- The internal fuel tank baffles (if any) are not of quality design. 2- As the fuel pump opening is located in the center instead of towards the southern part of the tank as that is the lowest part of the tank when bike is moving. As a result the bike starts to display the refill message far earlier. Since I had once run my bike dry just to get an idea of how much actual fuel is left in the tank. I am not much bothered about the message as I used to be when I am riding in the city. But if I am riding outside city and on roads with steep inclines/ gradients than I take the message serious, again because of the location of fuel pump in the tank. Now the main story. An Indian friend of mine asked me about this particular model since this bike wasn't available in our market and I didn't knew much other than they are using Dominar400 engine and subframe, I told him to go to MotorInc and listen to you two gentlemen. He apparently watched this discussion and said everything is good and fine and these guys talked a lot but they didn't review the bike nor showed it to the audience🤣🤣. And I did one of the biggest facepalms of my life, as I am partially to blame for it. The comprehensive in depth discussion Shumi and Karthik likes to have is something that I find extremely interesting. But a novice rider might not want to just listen but to see. The focus is just not on the numbers but what those numbers translate into, alternatively a 6 to 10 min review with "exciting" camera shots from different angles and talking about spec sheet only doesn't interest me, I can read that myself. What I like is the nitty gritty details these guys goes into. To cut a long story short, after watching this video I advised him against buying the NS400 Pulsar and advised him to stick to Triumph 400 as his first choice since he will be doing a lot of urban riding. This Pulsar seems to be suffering from an identity crisis.
Was waiting for this episode for so long now😂....great episode! And it's like shumi is the teacher and in the end he conducts an exam in the name of quick summary😂
I was actually suprised how mich Shumi like the bike. I was hoping for another disappointment from Bajaj story after N250. This bike does suit me as I am 40 already and have started showing Uncle like character, though I still ride fast (I think). This Pulsar will sell, but as said in video, the price importance will fade away as soon as its out from showroom. Thanks for the comprehensive video, I just love it no matter what. Another important thing I learnt is buying vehicle with heart first and then bring the mind cuz you would stop liking it in a few days and would just drive instead of enjoying it.
It's gonna be a good 1st time bike or 2nd bike I think. Cus If you have a big bike you need a fast commuter during summers when heat is unbearable. Or If you're "upgrading" from RC200/R15/Xpulse 200 but you want to still keep the lil bike. the 400z is an appliance not an emotion.
A question. NS 400z vibration's kicks in from 3.5 thousand rpm. It's not uncomfortable but you can't unnotice it. The same goes with Guerrilla. I found the triumph speed triple with the same vibration pattern though less intense. Based on your experience out of these three, which one you would recommend. I come from NS 200 so all these bikes are upgrade for me. The reason for this question is i like all three equally and can't decide on one
Temperamentally, I like the gentleness of the NS400z. But Bajaj tends to overdo the graphics. Why can't they give the bikes a clean look? PS : The 'uncle bike' comment stung a little. It will 'definitely' hurt the sales.
Hey TB! The NS' series graphics have always been sort of like this for sure. We don't think clean look is going to be an Indian bike thing for a bit. PS We're not interested in whether sales go up or down. We're very interested in making sure riders get the machines they think they'll enjoy riding during the entire time that they own it. 😊
Hello Motorinc! Nowadays in this era i think the Pulsar's has been replaced by the Duke's there is no doubt about it, now the Pulsar's are becoming commuter day by day, end of an era for the Pulsar's...
Shumi rightly said - pulsar lacks the aggression of 2005-2008 models now to give way to KTMs and triumphs😢, and yes Rajiv wants to sell 35k per month and he said that Enfield sells 70-80 k and we plan to get half of that market but seriously there is an old saying- compete with yourself and not with others, RE/Sid compete and improve on themselves . whereas Bajaj is flanking this segment to get RE’s share . Also that speed 400 rear suspension really bounces a lot 2up at 80 even on plain roads as i saw from behind whereas the Himalayan/ meteor 350 suspension is absolutely stable❤❤
Hi Shumi and Karthik, you guys have been my favourite automotive journalist for the last 13years❤. My request is If you can also please talk little more about the middle weight motorcycles category it would be great. Though we don’t have many of the internationally available motorcycles, it would be great if we can hear more about the ones you guys have ridden. It’s just my selfish request😅
Hey Shumi, been loving the content you guys have been putting out so far! Just a quick question: I am planning to buy my first bike, and I'm someone who prefers a sportsbike, which is why I'm thinking of buying the Hero Karizma XMR. Is the Karizma more aggressive than this 400cc Pulsar? Please do help me out here!
No. The xmr ngine needs to be revved out to produce power. Even if the NS400 lacks aggression, it still has 40hp so it'll be quick. Test ride the xmr, R15 and RC200. Personally, i like the rc200 the most.
This is what I love on MotorInc. Rather than a simple vehicle review, you guys bring down a proper discussion on the table, which infact clears out a lot of confusions, providing all the positives and negatives of that vehicle. Hat’s off to you guys for this idea 🙌🏻 The only thing what I’m worried about is the heating. Domi’s engine slightly tweeked to deliver a bit of quick performance, will this add up to some increased heating? Did you feel any extra heating which can be an issue in mild city traffic? Would like to hear this out from you as you said you drove it close to 240kms and that too in 41-42 C temperature.
@@motorinc That’s what I wanted to know if the heat is bearable? Because I recently got the test drive of speed 400 and Mavrick 440 and the engine heat was a bit higher than expected.
Heat is a choice. All bigger/faster engines will make some. What level you can accept is part of your test ride experience. We’d rather go faster and have fun than worry about heating - as uncomfortable as it might be.
Shumi sir, I currently own a 2018 NS 200. Do you think that the excitement and rush factor is almost similar in both the NS 200 and the 400Z? Or is differentiable enough for one to buy the 400Z?
As a person who has used the tvs bikes with ride modes, it works exactly how he explained the ducati does. You press the up button on the left, it says release throttle, changes the mode.
We don't appreciate taking pot-shots at someone's age @Mototune16. Edit your comment! And Shumi's talking about the NS400Z in this video, not TVS. He doesn't get into detail about what the issue with TVS vehicles is.
I wished bajaj had brought the RS 400 also . And talking about daring Hero is today more daring than the bajaj . In terms of newness and experimentation.
Me sitting here having grown up with an Avenger that my dad still has till today. Its almost 20 years old, but I love it still. Its sad to see that it wont receive attention any time soon.
Hey Shumi, I just love the way you review motorcycles by going into details of each aspect. I have 2 queries. 1. You said ns400z is a bike which does every task(commuting, touring etc) reasonably well but as far I remember you said the same thing for Triumph speed 400 too. So, tell me how is Ns400z different from Speed 400 and which one is best interms of performance, refinement, acceleration, feel and rider connection. 2. Which is the exciting product according to you after Duke 390 in this segment?

Your definition of Democracy needs some corrections but okay
Really 😂.... When you sell same engine with so many bikes, it's obvious the price goes down... RE does the same thing too..
@@THUGPUTIN I agree with the RE 650 part. But how are the Duke's 399cc, Triumph's 399cc (chain-sprocket on right side) and Dominar/Pulsar's 373cc similar? Care to explain?

Very interesting take!
Becz they have done RND it was high in that time .. today you can say duke 390 ..many desire to buy couldn't afford
Oh My God.

Absolutely! Would love to attend a class if these two offer it!
@@motorinc sir request you to please release content in hindi too. Your knowledge about automotive is so deep. But in indian viewvership hindi is major language.

Bajaj bikes are shit (except old Pulsars) buy a KTM or Triumph if u want to be happy
Can't help but feel the gentle throttle maps are deliberately so that people don't feel disincentivized from buying the KTMs
Unlikely Bajaj would do that because they aren't the same brands.
@@motorinc they would be eating into their own sales though.. same reason i think they would not come out with a trident 400 or something

This is something that now all Bajaj products have turned into. I feel they should start to venture with KTM for twin-cylinders on budget if they really want to bring that spark of excitement of the old days. And as usual summary is just on point 10/10.
Thanks Dheeraj! We agree! 😊
I just realized something! I don't need to see the bike going around the track or anything! I can just listen to these videos, think of them as podcasts, and they cover everything a person wants to know about a new bike!! Great job, y'all!

The way Shumi Defined Value for money actually fits for almost every purchase decision 😎😎
You gotta love the product first and then consider it's value for money but sadly most people look the other way around.
It can be one of the decision making factors but it can't be the decision making factor for sure.
Delulu 🤡
Duke 390 is 1.5 lakhs more expensive. The difference is huge
exactly my thought!had same expectation that it would be a bargain duke 390 gen 2 performance,i wont hesitate installing an aftermarket ECU or atleast remap stock ECU for punchier performance
Kartikeya is like why are we even doing this. He looks almost as bored as me half way through the conversation. 😂😂
It wasn't one of their more flourishing conversations for sure @rawalsushant...
@@motorinc yeah I could feel that throughout the conversation. But I guess that shows the overall state of what the brand Bajaj has in the market. They need to start focusing on their own portfolio rather than rely on other brands. Having owned the first RS200 I know that I was looking forward for a more powerful 400cc bike in that range but that never happened.
i think what Shumi is missing that it is for the people who lacks the budget to buy a duke 390 or any costlier motorcycle, but what it offers against 1.85 lacs is super great and
it can be recommended to anyone who wants a bike in this budget segment, period.
Bhai 400cc motorcycle performance enjoy karne ke liye lete hain & shumi said take a test ride & if u love riding it then only purchase & not because it is priced low

In indian scenario NS 400Z is the most practical bike...
Easy on pocket ,easy to ride, can go 120KMPH easily and sustain that speed.
My Honda 300f can reach 150kmph and done it
@@Bikecraze71 oky you can reach but
Can you maintain that speed without straining the engine?
1. replacing the tires, we went for Michelin Pilot series as it was in our budget
2. replaced fuel filters , as a result the milage has been reduced a little bit .
3. also added an POWERTRONIC ECU and kept the stock muffler tho we get quite a bit low rpm jerks thanks to that

As Shumi says in the video, the 390 Duke is on another level.

The update is due for sure. But there’s no reliable information we can pass on to you, honestly 🤷🏽♂️
Yes. But what is nimble enough is a subjective decision too - take a test ride!
@@motorinc Agreed. Will take a test ride and decide
What being presented here is there experience of the bike, which could be totally different than yours. So take a test ride and then decide 🙂
One thing to note is that the people who have not ridden Ktm 390's etc might not even notice the gentleness of this bike. And we cannot ignore that many of us can buy this today, on cash, while we cannot buy Duke 390 even after a year or two.

Thanks for sharing, @tripathibvirgo!
Indians should be thankful to Bajaj for this bike at this price point.
No thanks, we'll ask them to do better instead @dipanker4865.

@@motorincbest wishes , but their main focus is consumers not TH-camrs or theoretical experts .
True, only a minority of elitists are criticising it which Bajaj doesn't even know exist

Great Video as Usual🤩🤩

Congratulations @azael3036!
What is the reason to let go the Mavrick 440 ?

And even though its not like they are losing their own identity but it surely is getting affected and hence, innovation, reinvention, etc. happens at the topline for Bajaj (evidently - KTM)
Is the intent with the bike good? Atleast from where I stand - yes. Why?
1) Bajaj is enabling access to powerful and competent motorcycle for the masses who are eager and energetic to reach it.
2) By making the NS400Z a bit mellow they made sure that people look at this as a option in this price range as with a similar demeanor but a more capable motorcycle which would win the spec sheet battle for sure (for some people - which gives footfall - which gives revenue)
3) This gives Bajaj more latitude to explore and introduce variants which again will target the masses and keep the interests high.
The problem:
1) Lacking identity, being distinguishable or aspirational.
2) Lacking the zeal and zest of what the Pulsars initially were and even more so compared to the NS200 and/or KTM's
3) This "PnL" oriented strategy if not done right ... can result in a decline over the years in interest and aspiration - its already showing as except the NS200 (so far).. gone are the times when people discussed or got excited about Pulsars. (THEY DON'T EVEN FEATURE IN THE YT DRAG RACING COMMUNITY ANYMORE 🥲😜)
But atleast, Bajaj has a solid topline to keep this going.

Thank you for the kind words @finderskeepers7293.
One thing I love about this channel - mention of emotions.
Hahaha
In a global world of 4 wheelers, emotion matters a lot to two-wheel owners. So does agresssion, and so does throttle response.
Absolutely! Motorcyclists are all about the emotion of motorcycling!

Just got my test rides on the N250 and NS200 yesterday.
Decently long test rides. Rode them on the same road. High traffic. Empty private road 1km section with sharp corners.
My opinion -
These are both potent bikes. Loved the engines❤❤ Both of them. Different feeling to each other. But amazing ❤
I liked the chasis on the NS200 more than the N250
But the wider tyres makes the behaviour of the bike while applying the brakes on the N250 very stable and controlled while the NS200 seems to get upset if you apply the brakes too hard.
It might be lack of skill from my side this being my first purchase.
But even though the engine and chasis on the ns is better than the n. The lack of confidence on the brakes on the ns makes me actually ride the n harder than the n.
What do you guys think?

That hate for dominar is crazy. It deserves another try after so much noise in this segment.
Thanks Varun! Will pass your feedback on to the sound guys!
Bajaj bikes are VFM, bang on bucks, easy to maintain and great fun to ride. Being a Dominar owner for past 4 years, I can vouch for it. The bike has its disadvantages, but it's a great tourer and has never failed, even once.

Really don't get Shumi's hate for dominar. Lovely bike that one
This could be because of two reasons:
1- The internal fuel tank baffles (if any) are not of quality design.
Thank you for sharing @sa4555! We appreciate you seeing value in our format of doing things.

😂 He's a tough one at that!
Thanks Roks! Glad we can help!
The reason for this question is i like all three equally and can't decide on one
bro go for ns 400
Temperamentally, I like the gentleness of the NS400z. But Bajaj tends to overdo the graphics. Why can't they give the bikes a clean look?
PS : The 'uncle bike' comment stung a little. It will 'definitely' hurt the sales.
Hey TB! The NS' series graphics have always been sort of like this for sure. We don't think clean look is going to be an Indian bike thing for a bit.
PS
We're not interested in whether sales go up or down. We're very interested in making sure riders get the machines they think they'll enjoy riding during the entire time that they own it. 😊
Karthikeya, 400 cc bikes are not just for people wanting to ride aggressively. People want a choice to go aggressive or not. Like me😊
Thanks for letting us know. In that case, take a test ride!
Hello Motorinc!
Nowadays in this era i think the Pulsar's has been replaced by the Duke's there is no doubt about it, now the Pulsar's are becoming commuter day by day, end of an era for the Pulsar's...
Which is kinda sad for the Pulsar brand no?
@motorinc Yes definitely, the brand Pulsar's we used to know are no more which the brand used to back in the day early 2000's.
Spot on, HV!
For someone who is buying their first bike, ns 400 vs Duke 250 which one would you suggest
Same question 😅
Kartikeya, which did you enjoy riding more? The ns 400 or the mavrick 400?
He can't answer that question because he has ridden neither @teebone25.
Oops sorry I meant Shumi!
@motorinc shumi, the question was for you! :D
i love this bike bcz of its signifcance in the market
this bike's doing what the 220f did back then
it's bringing big power to the masses
This is what I love on MotorInc. Rather than a simple vehicle review, you guys bring down a proper discussion on the table, which infact clears out a lot of confusions, providing all the positives and negatives of that vehicle. Hat’s off to you guys for this idea 🙌🏻
The only thing what I’m worried about is the heating.
Big bikes will heat up @siddharthsingh6419. It's the rider that needs to get better at handling it.
Which one is better in between Mavrick 440 & NS 400Z..........& why......& your pick.....
@@motorincok fine. Now that I have your attention, why is the 310 missing from the list?
10 out of 10... Kartikeya's SUMARRY
Thank you!!
❤️
Hey Shumi, I just love the way you review motorcycles by going into details of each aspect.
I have 2 queries.
1. You said ns400z is a bike which does every task(commuting, touring etc) reasonably well but as far I remember you said the same thing for Triumph speed 400 too. So, tell me how is Ns400z different from Speed 400 and which one is best interms of performance, refinement, acceleration, feel and rider connection.
2. Which is the exciting product according to you after Duke 390 in this segment?
Hi motorinc one more great video !
Had some queries
At 2.5 on road is this a intresting bike or so I skip it !
If you're interested, take a test ride for sure @bttxts3132. It's a good bike but not exciting enough to ride for a 400, that's all.
