Dude, I bought this bike in the middle of a global worldwide shortage, where gravel bikes at a good price are subject to a long wait. Hey man I swear, I spent a few months in 2020/ beginning of 2021 looking both for new bikes and used, in my size, carbon and with a 2x setup, and could not find anything in with my target budget. Cube nuroad was a 7+ month waiting list, and used bikes with a good condition + price where very difficult to find. I got extremely lucky with finding the revolt in mint condition for half price, so I jumped to the occasion pretty quick. To be honest I didn’t think to much about the d fuse seatpost, it’s a small issue and as I said I am very happy with the bike, took me everywhere and is responsive. Actually the day I filmed this vid I shot the full revolt long term review which I am editing because I like this bike so much. I’m just saying that in my opinion, the less proprietary parts there are, for my peace of mind it would be better ✌️
If the seatpost breaking is of concern, they make it in an aluminum model. I've owned the 2021 advance 2 model and ride it on road and singletrack with no issues and love it so much i just bought another one.
New frame design allows you to switch from the proprietary D-Fuse seatpost to a standard round 30.9mm seatpost. This enables riders to choose any type of seatpost, including a dropper seatpost, depending on riding style and terrain.
I can't help but think you will have more to worry about than the seat post if you are generating sufficient force in a crash to break it. I will go with proprietary if the function is worth it. In this case, I think it does.
I feel you are worrying about a problem that probably won't exist. Why would you loose a bolt? How is the seat post going to break? I've had TCR's with a similar design and never had an issue. If it breaks its going to be from transport or over tightening, both negligence so just be careful.
Hey Andy! I agree, the problem is I travel around 200+ days per year, so disassembly and transport problems are a big factor. This video is more about saying: if there are proven designs that you can find replacement parts all over the world, why change it for a little bit of extra compliance? My personal opinion for my life circumstances and reality are I would much rather take the security and general availability of a standard seatpost vs a little more compliance
Not sure if you know what's the dfuse is.. the design is made so it would flex. It's like any other tech out there. The design is not to keep your seat straight! It has a purpose for shaping it to a D.... for sure you bought the bike vs others because of the compliance brought by dfuse... its proprietary with a purpose.
How many people actually break seatposts?? I have been riding and racing fir 40yrs, seen a lot, never broke one even in 80kph crashes!! Besides you can change the D-fuse seatpost out for many other options of posts from dropper to 30.9mm round!!
Good to get your views on it and generally agree about proprietary parts but I've had the same D-Fuse post for 4 years, weigh 120kg and no issue... Have thought about it but don't have nightmares.
Proprietary parts in my opinion (and in many people in the cycling industry who are not tied in with brands and speak the truth), are an unnecessary complication. They lock you in to 1 ecosystem, making additionally hard to get replacement if you break the seatpost by use, overtightening or any other non cycling related problem (breaking because of improper handling during travel for example. Not to mention if you lose the seatpost clamp. nice point man, that's why I don't like integrated seatpost or integrated stem/handlebar as well. Even the internal cable could be a real pain in the ass if you get in trouble in a huge mountain ride... But let me say a disclaimer for giant: the Revolt has born some years ago as a pure cyclocross race bike and as you know, cx race are super safe in the mecanichal point of view just because you ride in a closed course and you have a box lane so no issue at all if you use this bike as his fist aim was, but now the market wants gravel everywere, and here you are the giant gravel with no main change except for the tire clearece. Anyway I'll waiting you for some epic ride in the alps this summer!
It's not made so it aligns... it's made so that there's more compliance when going over rough surface, so that the seat has extra give and hurts your butt less. Also the 2022 model actually allows you to use both a d-fuse post or a regular round post, they simply made the inside round and added an adapter. Lastly, how many times have you seen a seat post break? :)
Hey Chris! O yeah for sure, the problem is only that the part is not readily available as a standard 27.2 seatpost that you can get literally anywhere for cheap. The frame is actually guaranteed for life (which is DOPE)
Hey Patrick, we live in Vancouver BC Canada, we have a international student living with us from Padova, she is wondering what city in Italy do you live?
Broken seatpost? That’s one of those theoretical component failures, never heard of in real life. Mine came with an alloy post so I bought the CF one. The alloy sits in a boxed waiting for urgent dispatch in the event of failure. 👍🏻
that seat post shouldn't break, don't break it. simple. also, it's not about self-alignment, it's aids in ride quality. that's the right post for that bike.
The seatpost is high quality yes, but for my personal use which involves travel and frequently taking apart the bike, I would have preferred to have the least number of proprietary parts on the bike
yeah bc I always hear people say how many times they broke their seatpost. c'mon man!! if ur breaking seatposts on a bike then it might be time to get a treadmill 1st, then get a bike.
Travel, accidents, seatpost slipping, and even if you look down in these comments you will see people having had this hassle. I'm not bashing the technology, I'm against adding proprietary technology for minimal benefit (hence why in the 2022 model they change this to accomodate 30.9 round seatpost also)
I’ve worked on like a hundred of these bikes never have I ever seen a seatpost break use a torque wrench Install it properly that’s not the bikes problem that’s your own fault
@@PatrickDelorenzi just because somethings specific to the bike doesn’t make it a negative, you can only install one kind of seatpost and fork into a pinarello but you don’t see anybody whining about that do you?
You just don't get it: why put a d shaped post where a round one would be exactly the same? Btw I hate the pinarello design choices you have just mentioned and find them pointless, but in that case one might argue that aerodynamics might play a roleetc. Here the seatpost offers minimal extra compliance, but locj you in to their system. Hence the reason why the new model has the option for a standard round seatpost
@@PatrickDelorenzi because it’s a giant bike and the seatpost is a really good feature that you get with this bike, you get compliance for a more comftorable ride, it actually is slightly more aerodynamic, easy to center, lighter, and it has a very clean clamp design for the pure aesthetic purpose which are all positives, and if you understand how business works you can understand that’s the reason giant only wants it on their bikes
That’s 3 mins if my life I’m never getting back. I work for Giant and have replaced the staggering amount of ZERO seat posts. This is a video you make when you’ve completely run out of ideas.

D fuse works, giant is the largest manufacturer on earth for bikes, like the ford of bikes. You won’t struggle finding a seat post. And you got the reason for the post wrong as well as which way around the post is made! Assuming you did this all specifically for interactions 😂
Na bro I just hate the post and find it a pointless addition to the bike. Round post would have worked fine just like in the Specialized Crux, Open Up, etc etc etc, no need to complicate things. Plus now they offer the bike with a round post option. Just because I thought the post was meant to do something and it was meant to do something else doesn’t mean it’s not a useless complication
Great video. I never really this about these integrated parts when buying a bike. But you are so right it's something that should really be considered. 👍
Breaking - slipping - misaligning, many things can go wrong, especially if you travel a lot like I do. But no worries, the 2022 model can be adapted to a round 30.9 post
Hey lads just a heads up to anyone worried about this seatpost I have a co max 2 carbon with dfuse it's Savage this lad is overreacting. It creates perfect alignment and promotes good balance and technique.
Hey does alejos, if it’s so dumb why do so many people agree with it? Adding proprietary parts for minimal gains (not bashing the giant tech but the concept) is getting a lot of backlash
@@PatrickDelorenzi Well dumb isn’t the right word. Poor articulation on my part. I think it’s not valid to complain about a carbon piece of the frame of a bike. Even if you purchase solely the frame from giant it comes with the seat post. Carbon seat posts can break just like carbon forks and can be purchased in the event of a break. Now the seat post itself is not under giants frame warranty buuuuut with proper torque the likely hood of a break is very low similar to the likely hood of you breaking the fork. I just didn’t agree with your claim.

It’s great they added in that option for the 2022 model!
that's a true point of all bikes with non-standard seat post.
My D-fuse post constantly slips. Does anyone know if replacing it with a standard round 30.9 post will solve that issue?
My takeaway: “I didn’t realise…”
Great point man!!
Also you can't fit a dropper post 😞
1. The shape is meant for flex not alignment. 2. I’ll eat my foot if you ever break that seat post.
🦶 thanks for giving me confidence in the bike I bought
LOL, I've been racing a Revolt for two years. The seat post is specifically designed for compliance. It won't break, BTW.
Isn't this covered under the frame warranty?
Hey Chris! O yeah for sure, the problem is only that the part is not readily available as a standard 27.2 seatpost that you can get literally anywhere for cheap. The frame is actually guaranteed for life (which is DOPE)
Just install the Alu post, simple! I have the metal post on my Revolt 2, takes all the worry out of your reliability fears
WoW a dfuse alu seatpost exists? I thought there was only composite
@@PatrickDelorenzi now you know!
I can’t seem to find it anywhere online - do you have a place where to source it?

Hey ross! I live in Torino, Italy, north west! Say hi from me
Show me how you going to break the seat post ?

Sorry man, but it really doesn’t look like any problem. You have so many options, today you can even buy adapter for standard rounded seat post.
Broken seatpost? That’s one of those theoretical component failures, never heard of in real life.
Mine came with an alloy post so I bought the CF one.
The alloy sits in a boxed waiting for urgent dispatch in the event of failure.
👍🏻
Well I broke my D-fuse SLR last week ....
You broke the seatpost! How the hell did you break your seatpost! I've never heard of an alloy one breaking let alone a carbon one!
Appreciate the review
Purchase an aluminum D-fused seat post
what tube and tire size is it?
700x38c now i have 700x40c or 650b x 1.9
that seat post shouldn't break, don't break it. simple.
also, it's not about self-alignment, it's aids in ride quality. that's the right post for that bike.
It’s more of a critique of the design choice, more proprietary parts to me are always a negative
Great quality product
Excellent point , one thing i do like is the comfort of it , definitely noticeable . Pain in the ass mind if you break it
If your seat post breaks, just ride standing up until a new one arrives. Problem solved.
That’s 3 mins if my life I’m never getting back. I work for Giant and have replaced the staggering amount of ZERO seat posts. This is a video you make when you’ve completely run out of ideas.

you work for Giant, and are making excuses for terrible design. I hate the seatpost on my Giant Revolt. I wasted thousands of $ buying this bike. I am highly *euphemism* disappointed.
Totally agree man.

Oui. C'est juste ! (mais pourquoi ne pas le dire en 1 minute, une minute suffit !) . Bonne journée.
True! I was just ranting, this is part of a longer video, sorry for wasting your minutes
“Imagine you’re in Thailand” on some luxurious biking vacation…Brother, I’m trying to get into the sport, but can’t afford the bike!
Great video. I never really this about these integrated parts when buying a bike. But you are so right it's something that should really be considered. 👍
Really? Never heard that seatpost would have broke.
Breaking - slipping - misaligning, many things can go wrong, especially if you travel a lot like I do. But no worries, the 2022 model can be adapted to a round 30.9 post
So they don’t sell giant in Thailand 😂?
Hey lads just a heads up to anyone worried about this seatpost I have a co max 2 carbon with dfuse it's Savage this lad is overreacting. It creates perfect alignment and promotes good balance and technique.
Thai people are pretty great at problem resolutions bro! 😂😊
Sometimes people just run out of content ideas 😅
I know this might sound insane but... maybe as a serious cyclist, just have a second seat post... lol
That's revolting
Lol 😂
TO MAKE MONEY, YA HIPPIE
Dumb complaint. Torque your carbon seat post and ride.
@@PatrickDelorenzi you and I having the early model of the revolt. Can’t use a 30.9 round seat post. Unfortunately.
agree+1
Then buy a spare with you. You cry too much.
I don’t cry, I’m pragmatic. Have a look at my other videos on gravel bikes and see the like va dislike ratio: my advice is legit
