Just bought the same exact bike (02-12000 miles)and I’m absolutely loving it! Want to send thanks because it’s your video that pushed me over the edge and made me pull the trigger on buying it. Stay safe out there!
Nice bike. I have a 94 Road King and my son and grandson will be fighting for it when I can't ride it anymore. Great bike no problems other than regular maintenance stuff.
You walk away from it and look back, because you love it just like I do. I have the same bike and I love mine. Glad you still do. Wish we had roads like those in Indiana. There are some but not too many around Fort Wayne. I'm jealous!
Just found your channel. My first Harley is a 2005 Road King Classic (many other brands over the years). I have had it for 6 years and love it. Last fall my brother purchased a retired police bike. And asked me to convert it to a civilian bike. I have completed the work and it is now equal to an Ultra Classic. I have decided to keep it due to the radio, tour pack and other features for touring and have put my Road King Classic up for sale. And now, switching back and forth between the RKC and Ultra, I will really miss the RKC Like you say, it is a fun bike to ride around town. So easy to handle. And very pretty. What attracted me to it originally was the classic vintage look and feel. While photographing it for the listing in my small town business district, so many people commented on how beautiful the bike looks. I would love to keep both... but need the cash to pay my brother for the new bike. After watching this video it occurred to me that even though the RKC and Ultra Classic are based on the same frame and drivetrain, they ride so much differently from each other. I will really miss it.
So cool of you to do that for your brother and they are great bikes. Totally with you on the classic look, the headlight is what I just always loved the most. Appreciate you stopping by and joining the madness. We are all fortunate to ride regardless of the bike, ride safe!
You should try a longer tour on Duke! It’s WAY more than just an “around town” bike. You already have bags so just strap a duffle bag to the luggage rack or passenger seat. Call it a “soft tour pack”. I live in central IL and I have ridden my RK to both coasts multiple times plus countless other trips around the US. Probably want to throw the windshield back on for long trips though. And let’s face it, unless you spend a ton of money upgrading it, the stereo on your Ultra is pretty much useless over 55 mph. Plus with a RK you get that beautiful, open, forward view. No fairing to look over or block part of your view. Give old Duke a try on a longer tour. I’m thinking you’d really love it!
I'm in some what the similar situation. Last year, after 40 years of not riding, I bought a 2010 Road King Classic and then this year I bought my second bike, a 2021 Road King Police model. I'm in East Tawas, MI love riding through the country in Michigan, the scenery is so beautiful and relaxing.
Road Kings are great bikes. It's been 4 years since I was rear ended stopped on an interstate exit ramp which totaled mu 2006 Road King Classic. Flo was a very enjoyable bike ride and took me to many a distant place, racking up 87,000 miles in 11 years. I still to this day miss Flo....
Great vid dude, love Duke.. You have great roads over there, I'm UK a bit crowded now here going to view a 2014 road king tomorrow, I hope it's nice. Oh! Also you won't need 3 wheels I'm 73 next and ready to rock ( just had Setzer on) keep rockin my friend.
I think That bike is so cool. I might be looking at buying myself an Elvis to add to the shop. I went to HD and told the salesmen what I am looking for and maybe I will have one soon. The hunt is on.
I've always like the look of the early 2000s RoadKings. You didn't mention if yours was Magnetti-Morelli EFi or carbureted but they really look great! With the white wall tires and unmodified, they really look great, hold their value and perform like Harley intended also. Thanks for the info on him. Ride safe...
The best looking RK's are the ones closest to factory stock. Especially the older ones. Harley got the styling on these right the first time. Love my 2005 RK Classic. Yes mine gets 2nd glanced at all the time. Just don't have a name yet for it. Ride safe.
That’s a fine machine you have there. And any motorcycle that you have to turn back and look at a second time deserves more than the “Around town bike” moniker 😂. Road King’s are nice and at that price even with the trade was a steal. Sure glad you’re enjoying her. Ride forever.
I bought mine with 14" apes&because I got T-rex arms I wound up tilting them back a little. Now they look like rams horns but it's comfortable. Ride safe Bo.
Got an 04, I love it, but now I'm faced with do I put a Memphis shades shield, legend shocks, saddleman road sofa, backrest and rack, cell phone mount, ect.....or trade up for the new 23 bright billiard blue king....by the way the 04 has the 95" kit with the screamin eagle plate and fueling 525 cams, and I put bassani power curve headers and dnt mufflers.... What would u do?
That’s a really tough decision, but I gotta say it’s not the best time from an economy perspective to be buying a new motorcycle but that’s just my opinion
@@BoDean52 thanks for your advice. I wouldn't be doing anything to soon as wife and I are having suv troubles with our 2018 Santa fe sport, engine is junk in all those santa fes, the 2.4 to be exact.
The Road King is the personification of a Harley Davidson icon. Those select riders who own one are indeed privileged. I own a 2003 Road King Classic, 100-Year Anniversary Edition, and it is among the most elegant, stylish and archetypical Harley-Davidson motorcycles ever produced and forever etched in HD's rich history of motorcycle designs. Road King stands supreme and has no equal.
I'm currently looking at a 5k mile 2008 RK-C, as a second bike, to use to cruise around the secondary roads of Michigan and Tennessee. I'll keep my ultimate touring bike, BMW GS-Adventure, for long distance and gravel road bike. Did you really pay only $4k for yours or $4k on top of the 4-Wheeler you traded?
Very nice video, sir. Good job transporting the emotions you experience when riding Duke. What I like about the RK is that the bike concept is so versatile. I can strip my Elaine down completely and it looks like a cafe racer and I can dress her up fully with luggage rack and leather trunk and she is a full fledged tourer. In addition, the timeless style makes this bike such a great investment. People seeing my bike next to a M8 RK think it's the same model year (well unless they know exactly when what model year had what paint scheme lol) because HID / LED lights and stuff like chopped engine guards are available for my 08 model . I like to plan my spendings starting in summer for the next winter season and then do the upgrades. Having a fully paid bike makes it much easier to shell out 500 - 1000$ / year for updates knowing it will benefit my bike. Continue to be good and ride safe (and sorry for the rambling, just fully buying in on the RK concept lol).
I bought mine with 20,000 miles on it and had them checked. They were good but it was suggested to check again at 30k. I will probably replace them then. It’s an amazing bike Ian, good luck
I love Road Kings yet I've never owned one. I do still prefer Heritage Softails over Road Kings, but only by a tiny little bit. Oh and I can understand why a Goldwing passing by you might get you all flustered! 😎
I had a 2002 road king I bought new. It was a great bike! I have a 2020 road glide now and yea it has all the bells and whistles. But there's something to be said for getting back to the basics?
I had considered a RK...if the Mrs had said she wasn’t interested in riding with me, I would probably have gotten a RK instead of the Ultra Classic. Nothing says Classic H-D like black paint and chrome. Enjoy it.
Ummm! I’m telling Big Mamma that you called Duke your favorite. 😜😉 And I agree. Like when I am out with Bob, my bike Bob, when he goes through the gears one must be pause to let him speak. And I am glad you are not putting different bars on him. He is classic and he is handsome. 👍🏻😎🏍🖤

Hi NonnaGrace, my Ultra Limited Big Momma was named after a deer believe it or not that I gave her. The Road King Duke was named as a contest on the channel. Your right, probably no more bikes and I like the bars too. Hope your well
I have always liked the Road King, but financially it is currently out of my reach. I have been looking at a Honda VTX 1300, a Honda Shadow Spirit 1100, and a HD XL1200C which are all on my cycletrader list for now.
