  • Harley-Davidson Road King is the king of anything you want to do with a Harley-Davidson motorcycle. The Road King can be a tourer, a cruiser, a wild custom, a daily rider, you can dress it up or down any way you please. Road King spans many years with multiple engine options depending on what year you choose. There is a Harley-Davidson Road King to fit any budget and any engine preference. Road King is the most cost effective way to get a Harley-Davidson on the touring platform with an Evo, Twin Cam or Milwaukee 8 in any and every variation you can imagine!

@@Pounder6407 They are nice bikes for sure. Lighter weight, but still have the touring frame. No fairing weight to deal with. A windshield for rain days and you can pop it off or on in a minute or two. You can add a sound system if you like. Put speaker lids on the saddle bags. Or just listen to the music of the wind and engine. A cell phone for GPS. A cup holder for your favorite road beverage and you’re golden. I like to keep things as simple as possible. The Road King is a bare bones touring bike. In my opinion, it’s the best touring bike in the Harley line up.

Great video covering the venerable Road King and its history.
The Harley Davidson Road King is one of the most elegant, stylish and archetypical Harley Davidson motorcycles ever produced and forever etched in HD's rich history of nostalgic motorcycle designs.
The Road King is the personification of a Harley Davidson icon. Road King stands supreme and has no equal. Those select riders who own one are indeed privileged.
I have a 2003 Road King Classic, 100-Year Anniversary Edition, with the Screaming Eagle engine upgrade from an 88 V-Twin to a 95 done by Harley Davidson after the bike was purchased new. The instant producing torque and exhaust sound is exhilarating.
Some of my recent mods include adding the Ultra Cool Oil Cooler which has turned out to be a great choice. My engine's never been happier. Another mod was adding the Power Commander 6 Tuner and my Dyno Tune shows my horsepower rated at 88+ and my torque rated at 99+. Which suits me for my 03' Road King Classic.
My Road King with its original anniversary Two-Tone Sterling Silver and Vivid Black paint colors stands out. The commemorative medallions seen throughout this ride's sculpted design adds to its nostalgia, mystique, and exclusivity.

I could ride all day and only stop for gas and something to eat. Of course being a police bike it was made for city streets or interstates and she handled both with ease. I miss the smooth ride it gave even on bad roads with potholes. I do miss it sometimes, but I went for the cruiser bikes after I sold it. This is the bike that made me come to Harley 15 years ago on an EVO model, it is for me the archetype of the traditional Harley in the lineage of the Hydra and Electra of yesteryear, I also had a Rushmore 103 from 2014 and it was one of my favorites. But at 65 years old today, these bikes are too heavy for me and today I ride a 2019 M8 Heritage Classic which retains the iconic Harley look but which is so much more manageable and fun to ride...

It's yours to ride the way you want, as many or few a miles you want.
Pay no attention to what other people think on this subject.
I've ridden for nearly 50 years, about 20,000 miles a year.
After getting hit by a deer last year and breaking a pile of bones, I had to decide if I would quit riding.
I resolved the question when I decided to cut way back on my miles per year.
I figure the less mikes I ride, the better my chances.
I no longer ride as my main source of transportation after 50 years of doing so, but I still ride. Nobody else answers for my actions except me.

      After 38 years with my 81shovelhead I rode a friend's RK.
      It changed my life!!
      3 days later I had a 2010 RK.
Now my 81 feels like it has square wheels!!
It's a magnificent machine in every way......couldn't be happier!
BTW.......I love your vids. And please tell me how you arrived at "GIXXERFOO"!😊

I have always loved the RK. The first I rode was a 2002 model in various stages of performance mods. Eventually, it ended as a high compression 95" with heads, Andrews gear cams, VH pipes, and a Mikuni carb.

I had a 2007 RK and loved it. Only couple issue I had with it, one was the exhaust cross over pipe. This was one of the years where it was up high behind the rear cylinder hard mounted. Know for cracking. Dealership wanted over $200 for it, so I went with a V&H true dual head pipe. Gave it a tune and it ran great. Hated getting rid of it. Other issue was the spoked (or wire lace) wheels. Rear one had some come loose and caused the wobble. Anyways got rid of it because it stripped teeth off of belt. Probably due to issue with the rear wheel.

I love my 04 Classic. I’ve thought about “upgrading“ through the years. Haven’t found anything Is rather have. I’ve toured all over this country on it. So far it’s only left me stuck once, and that was due to a lazy technician at the dealership. He dropped my battery clamp into the cavity for the small drive pulley. Instead of retrieving it. He put a new one on. That clamp chewed up my drive belt in the middle of a 2000 mile trip.

I have the same bike -minus the anniversary colors. Apparently that was fairly common as people were not crazy about the 105th copper orange/charcoal gray two tone thing they did that year. I actually like the sunglo-burgundy better that someone substitute ordered on mine -plus ponied up $4K on a full stage I, and then only rode it 5K miles before I got a hold of it. Was a super cool find. Enjoy the hell out of riding it 😎👍👍

I don't own a HD, but was looking hard at them a couple years ago and the Road King Special is what I would buy. The sales guys were pushing a bit too hard to get me to buy anything, so I put some upgrades on my metric bike. I still like the Road King, but that bad dealer experience was a huge turn off.

I have a Y2K RCI with the TC88 & MM intake. Paid $10k in 2003 with 7k miles on it. It’s an excellent sled, everything you need and nothing you don’t.
I do most of my own wrenching on it, but kept in touch with the main wrench (his name is KnuckleDragger) who uncrated, tuned, & stage 1’ed this bike. He’s been my source all these years.
Cam idlers replaced @ 40k miles & they needed it done. Replaced with stock as it was all I could afford at the time. I was ready with the credit card if I had needed to replace the cams, & had put on a Power Commander instead of playing tune-up-to-2 new cams with the MM intake. Never touched the Power Commander & the MM still purrs.
Besides brakes, batteries, motor mounts, plugs, and head breather flaps this bike don’t owe me a dime !!! The Y2K was one of the only years with air-ride front & rear, and making the switch between 1-up and 2-up is a breeze. It rolls down the road like a Caddy in a FL Hwy !!!
I switch saddles between a HD Sundowner & a Corbin solo and a HD Ultra 2-up when I’m with the ol lady, and add a bitchback for safety, comfort, and slip-on luggage.
    LOVE THE KING !!!

took my chromed out road king for a ride last week. multiple people who were walking and driving in cars gave me nods and thumbs up. people like to see a work of art on the road. it makes their day. later an obviously frustrated harley rider on a way too loud, blacked out batwing bike came up behind me and started revving his engine like a jerk. i'd bet my last dollar not one person gave that guy a thumbs up that day

The Road King can trace it's roots all of the way back to the Duo Glides from the 50's. Before fairings, that was the touring bike. Like you said, add a tour pack and some Christmas tree lights, and there you go. Strip it down, it's a great cruiser. Hard not to like a Road King.

Love my 2011 FLHRC with the 103ci, I will never get rid of that bike, it now has a 110ci Fuel Moto stage 4 and it rocks. Harley is blowing in these days with only the "Special" RK, they need to come back with the standard FLHR and FLHRC. My guess is that they will be bringing out a FLHRC icon model soon. I will be in line....
