I'm 66yo and ride a Road King. It's an '04 with the 95 inch big bore kit, SE 203 cams, SE hybrid cam plate with high volume oil pump, SE air cleaner with back plate removed, and Kerker slip ons. Mine does have cruise control, which is handy as heck. Living in Western Colorado I have the opportunity to ride the Rockies all the time. My favorite "thing" about the RK Classic is the vibe. I usually ride without the windshield, but I have a Freedom Shield for when the weather cools off. I'm sure there are better bikes out there, there's a lot of equipment this bike does not have, but this bike has soul and I love that about it. Sign me, "Vibin' on the chug."
Did the same thing, had a newer street glide. Went out and bought a 03’ road king classic. In my opinion two different feels of bike. Best decision I ever made.
Funny you said that. I had a 21 road glide I just traded a few days ago for a new road king. The road king has always been my favorite harley, and like you said, everyone lately is on a road glide of street glide. Really like the new road king!
I just ran across this….I’m a little over 50 & finally bought my first bike after 10 years of talking myself out of it for practical reasons. I bought a 2009 Road King Classic…just yesterday I was trying to describe to the wife why I love it and how it relaxes me and the free feeling that comes from riding this bike. The look I got made me feel like a little kid….Ran across your video today and I realize you know EXACTLY what I was trying to portray. Great video!
My brother, I cried twice in 20 years.... once when I dog passed away and second when I had to sell my 2003 Road King 100 Anniversary Ed.... broke my heart man. But I'm in the market for another bike and YES it will be another Road King! Awesome video!!!
@FreakTheGamer: Yep the same with my Lab.and first R.K. Haven't got another Lab yet. Buuut I do have another R.K. Great ridin' Harley's. Go Brandon!!🇺🇸😎
i love the simplicity of my older road king classic. i hate wind screens and stereos on motorcycles. if you are riding in a straight line at high speed down a freeway you are doing motorcycles wrong imo. my perfect ride is heading for the twisties far away from cars with the wind in my face, slipping the bike into corners and blasting out with that low end grunt while listening to the sweet motor rumble. a chromed out road king is the most beautiful motorcycle harley ever made too
I sold a 2008 CVO Electra Glide & kept the 99 Road King...she ain't got all the bells & whistles of the CVO, but she's an awesome classic that gets you back to the basics of motorcycles without all the distracting extras...
My 2009 looks exactly like yours, good sir. Mine is a 96 Cubic Inch with cruise control, ABS, and Factory speakers. I'll ride it anywhere in the country. I've owned it for many years, and I'm ~ 66 and still enjoy it.
The Road King without the wind screen is the most classic and iconic Harley look out there. IMO. I absolutely love mine. 2012 RK 103ci in Big Blue Pearl paint. I will never get rid of it.
I have a 2000 RKC I bought brand new. Bike runs like a champ. Love the bike. I did the S&S cam chest kit upgrade. Best bike I have ever owned. I also have a 2023 Indian Pursuit Dark Horse Premium that I absolutely love. And a 2003 Victory V92C. I love all my bikes.
@BoDean52 S&S makes a complete kit for the twin cam. It has everything you need to do the upgrade to hydraulic cam chain tensioner. New cams. Bearings. Oil pump for a 96-inch engine that has an extra scavenge stage. Forged support plate. Adjustable push rods. Gaskets. I mean everything. It all fits great. It's what my dealer recommended and installed. You won't go wrong. It's expensive, mind you. But when you're going 75MPH down the road, you'll be glad you spent the money.
I'm 72 and have put on over 70,000 miles on my used 2003 with a total of 112,000 miles. I just installed the 4th cam chain tensioer set! But hey, ya only live once. The only failyre was an o ring in the fuel pressure gizmo which I replace myself.
I agree 💯! I won’t ever sell my Road King. Everyone around here ride the glides. Just my opinion but for me there is no comparison. The Road King has so much more character and I feel is more in line with what the heart of Harley is. If you look back in the history of what Harley was and compare that to what you can buy today, and you want to get as close to the heart of Harley….you have to get the Road King! It’s a amazing bike.
I ride a 1999 Road King Classic. First year of the twin cams on touring bikes. I live 20 minutes from Weirs Beach in NH, so naturally I dropped by the Laconia rally a couple times last week. On Sunday I parked on the strip among the sea of Harleys, many newer ones and all sweet machines, but as I approached my Road King, it just stood out like a sore thumb with the big old chrome front end among all the fairings. They were designed to look and feel old school and they do exactly that. Not a better or worse thing in comparison to its cousins, just different. I knew exactly what you were talking about when you were riding. It's a unique experience.
I was at Athens, Ohio Harley Davidson yesterday and they had a 2000 Road King Classic sitting out front. I thought of you and Duke. It's not in the works for me to have a second bike, but that looked like a fun bike to ride. Stay safe and thanks for another great video.
I have a 2002 Road King Classic Screaming Eagle, it's my first Harley I am keeping it forever! It's been kept up so well and it's gorgeous. I love it. I will definitely buy another Harley down the road as well.
I also have 2 bikes, my wife do trips we take our ultra classic. But when I ride it is on my road king standard. I love the feel of it. Just like you state. The ultra will get traded, but the road king will stay forever.
Thanks for doing this video and your comments on the Road King. I’m 62 now and I have and old CHP road king. It’s the only bike I’ve ever owned. Sometimes I think I want something a little more modern like your newer bike. But then I say to myself nah, this is just fine for me.👍🏽
Love where you head is at my friend...my Springer classic is for roaming the sunshine...my glide is a ground pounder. Love 'em both but for different reasons.
One key advantage of the road king over a street glide or road glide, you don't have people who don't know bikes complimenting you on your gold-wing, lol.
Man I totally 100% agree with you. I traded in a 2010 heritage on a 2016 CVO Limited and although it completely blows it away on luxury items, I totally miss the feeling of the vintage. After a couple years I had to add a 2013 Road King Classic to my stable to get that feeling back. There is just something about the simplicity of the bike along with still having a pretty decent ride you cannot beat, especially without the windshield.
That 2013 must be awesome! I’m gonna try to sneak out to ride tomorrow with 45° here in Michigan and this is the one time I’m probably gonna put the windshield back on
After having an Ultra, I went back to a 2011 Road King Classic--103 engine, ABS brakes, standard--and YES, it feels fabulous, like a real Harley. Mustang wide solo seat and aftermarket bars take care of the comfort issue. Happy New Year!
I have a 21 Road Glide Special in Venom paint. It has the traction control, cruise, GPS. electronic brakes every dang thing you could ever imagine a motorcycle to have. Yes its fast very powerfull and over all its an amazing bike. I also have a 1989 Road King Classic, it he 95 th anniversery addition. It in rootbeer over cream its bike #1624/3500. Its not overly powerfull, (evo) the brakes kinda suck. It vibrates alot at idol. But nothing give me the joy I feel taking her out for a spin. @@BoDean52 LOL There is something to be said about not knowing what gear your in and no digital stuff in your face. Just the wind the sound and the feel. Yep it puts a smile on my face everytime
Been enjoying your videos and now I need to take my 2022 RK for a Ride. I do want to point out that the new RKs have all the electronics, except the radio and GPS screen, including the safty features like anti-locking breaks. She has the sleek classic look that we love about the RK. I added a touring pack from the factory with matching paint. The feeling of riding her has been incredible and comfortable on those long rides.
I love the new Road Kings too...heck if you want radio, bluetooth it. If I was getting another bike and the wife no longer toad with me, it would be a Road King. What color did you get and congrats!
I traded a 2000 road king when I got my Electra glide and should have kept it. Older Harley has soul, not as comfortable or fast but was great. Sold a Yamaha royal star back when I bought the road king, almost identical but a v4 and I wanted a Harley. Regretted that more and bought it back a few years later when the guy never changed the title and messed it up. It still sits in my garage in some sort of work being done to it. Only other bike I regretted selling was a turbo Yamaha in the 90s that I always wanted but was flipping motorcycles back then
🛑🛑 I had a CVO Roadking, and I now own a CVO Ultra Limited, there are many differences between the 2 bikes. The Ultra (The Geezer Glide) does everything really well..Comfort, Ride, Power, and Room …although the Roadking lacks in those areas; the one the thing the Roadking can do better than the Ultra is COOL!!!! 😀👍💯
Gene, I’m surprised you listed “room” as an area where the Ultra out does the Road King. I have a ‘07 Road King (stock seat) and I’ve test rode an Ultra (stock seat). I felt like my Road King had more room, the Ultra felt like I was pushed forward towards the tank and I felt cramped. I’m 6’3” with a 36” inseam so I need my legroom. Obviously you can get aftermarket seats but out of the box I feel the Road King is the roomier of the two… Totally agree with your “Cool” comment! 👍
@@PMCraig I had an 2007 CVO Cobalt Blue Roadking. That bike was “Really Cool” and brought crowds around it wherever it took me. 💯 I really hated to sell that bike, but a guy at a bike night offered to buy it from me for my “Stupid Crazy Price”. 🤪💯💰, so I sold it. I mentioned “Room”. My reference meant “storage space”, not “operator room”. The Roadking I had, and this Ultra Limited I have now, to me seem to have the same amount of Operator Space. I had the Driver Pylon Backrest in my Roadking, and have the Pylon Backrest in my CVO Ultra Limited, now. The space on both bikes seem the same to me (I’m 6’0, 210 LBS)(Both Bikes never had a Aftermarket Seat on them. They both kept their CVO seats from the day I purchased them) The Roadking is a Great Bar Hopper, and definitely has the “Cool Factor”, but as I get older, take longer rides, ride 2 up more and more, and like the sounds of my music, heated seats and grips; I think my CVO Ultra Limited (The Geezer Glide) suites me better for what I’m into now a days 😂👍. Thank You For The Reply 💯👍
Well put. I have a big Harley Electra, a V-Strom and, a 2006 Road king with a cam upgrade that can shake your bones at a red light. Guess which goes out the most? Yup, the Road King. Just that feel you talked about.
I have that feeling every day. I have 2 Road Kings. A 98 upgraded with a S&S 111 and 6 speed and a almost stock 99 classic with carb, cams and gears. You're right, the classic is fun to ride. It gets compliments every time I take it out. Too much chrome for my taste but everyone else loves it.
@@BoDean52 Thanks. I love it. Burned up a lot of highways on that thing. Only thing on the bike that hasn't been swapped out over the years is the headlight nacelle. : - ) The bike fits me so I just upgrade parts instead of bikes. I have a batwing and tour pack for traveling long distance that hang on the wall when I'm not. Great thing about HD is it is still easy to get parts for old bikes.
When you said you had a regret about Duke, I almost had to resend my friendship. Was thinking, 'HAS HE LOST HIS MIND?!?' Then I saw you had not and all is right with the world again. 🙃😉😎 They are called Kings for a reason. Are they not?
I agree my RKC there was no other bike I owned like her, although one day like to have more newer bike for long trips and some of the bells and whistles lol
First thanks for a great video! Mr Bo sounds like you and I both enjoy riding mostly for the endorphins...that feeling of relaxation, peace and contentment with nothing to prove. Others ride more for adrenaline...excitement, danger and hurry and that's OK too, just not for me. Some ask what do you mean a Harley has soul? Others say there is no such thing. I would explain it's the feedback a machine gives to you through sound, vibration, visual beauty, riding position and overall attitude. My Road King seems to effortlessly rumble down the road and that easy gate lets me feel I can just relax and enjoy the ride with no hurry. In today's rush rush lifestyle it's a welcome relief. The other thing I realized about a Road King that is pretty unique. If you ride without the windshield like you and I like to do...from where you sit while riding, 95% of what you see is painted or chromed steel. Very few rides can say that. And that contributes to that feeling of a solid, honest and classic experience. 👌
That is a fine ride my friend!....how could anyone have regrets with a classic like that!!...great video...thanks for sharing...stay safe...ride safe!!😎👍🤙👍🤙🇨🇦
Nice vid and nice bike Bo, I was looking at buying an 03 aniversary model RK last week but sold before I could get there. This one had high bars on it and I like the bars you've got on yours, are they factory?
Thanks I appreciate that. You have a super cool bike. I use a GoPro 7 attached to my chin for video and I use a Sena10 C for the audio. And then mix them together when I edit.
just traded my 2000 RKC for a 21 ultra. get you some MM injectors off ebay, get them rebuilt and set them aside. they are hard to find. the fuel pump will cross over to a walbro at NAPA. and the fuel line disco's are still avail at the dealer. dont go with aftermarket. i miss it but then i go out on the ultra and im good. its a diff beast aint it? not as refined and i can sling that 88TC all over the road.
I don’t get the adv bike trend. Most of those people you’ll find on their adv bikes parked in front of a Starbucks anyway. I went way different than my 2019 ultra and got a 2007 Fjr. The mechanicals on the Fjr are still more advanced and it’s a 2007. Sure I like the Harley but I only take it out for those longer day rides and two up rides. Stay safe
@@BoDean52 I hate to say it but it’s mostly true. I believe the adv thing is a trend that was inspired by the movie long way around and its sequel. What’s wrong with a good dirt bike or a dual sport. They cost a lot less and are easy to pick up when you drop them.
There is just something about the Twin Cam Bikes the way they ride and the feel....Even thought the M8's are more modern and superior to the Twin Cams....But i perfer the Twin Cams...

I really lie how clean Mrs. BoDean keeps your bikes looking. Great reason to have two so you can switch off while she cleans😀
.
It keeps her in line ....... oops
What exhaust are you running?.....sounds amazing
Rinehart and they came on the bike, I love them
🛑🛑 I had a CVO Roadking, and I now own a CVO Ultra Limited, there are many differences between the 2 bikes.
The Ultra (The Geezer Glide) does everything really well..Comfort, Ride, Power, and Room …although the Roadking lacks in those areas; the one the thing the Roadking can do better than the Ultra is COOL!!!!
😀👍💯
You are exactly right Gene!
@@PMCraig
I had an 2007 CVO Cobalt Blue Roadking.
That bike was “Really Cool” and brought crowds around it wherever it took me. 💯
I really hated to sell that bike, but a guy at a bike night offered to buy it from me for my “Stupid Crazy Price”.
They both kept their CVO seats from the day I purchased them)
The Roadking is a Great Bar Hopper, and definitely has the “Cool Factor”, but as I get older, take longer rides, ride 2 up more and more, and like the sounds of my music, heated seats and grips; I think my CVO Ultra Limited (The Geezer Glide) suites me better for what I’m into now a days 😂👍.
Thank You For The Reply 💯👍
Gene, I have a TriGlide, and that is the ultimate “Geezer Glide”!!! 🤣🤓
@@Tryke_Ryder
😂😂👍
Ultra Geezer Glide.
You win 🏆 💯.
love my 18 rk
Great bikes
Well put. I have a big Harley Electra, a V-Strom and, a 2006 Road king with a cam upgrade that can shake your bones at a red light. Guess which goes out the most? Yup, the Road King. Just that feel you talked about.
And you don’t know unless you have one right Scott! Enjoy your ride
That 98 must be sweet! Hard not to love a King
Definitely if your gonna go for a second ride , should be something you enjoy. Beautiful riding on that road there. Enjoyed
Appreciate that my friend and ALWAYS great seeing you. Hope the family and you are well.
I love mine too. 👍🏽👍🏽
they are great bikes, what year is yours?
Just bought a 2001 Road King Classic.
Congrats!
Just bought a 21 Road King classic w the M8. Absolutely love it! Had 28k on it but I got a deal so…No regrets. That 107 reduces the shaking by 75%
That’s awesome and 28k is nothing!
Классный мотоцикл! Я себе взял Harley Davidson Road King Custom 2006... Но он ещё плывет ко мне из США 🙂
Thanks I think! 👍
When you said you had a regret about Duke, I almost had to resend my friendship. Was thinking, 'HAS HE LOST HIS MIND?!?' Then I saw you had not and all is right with the world again. 🙃😉😎 They are called Kings for a reason. Are they not?
That you even thought that....tsk tsk. Duke stays until they throw me in the hole
@@BoDean52 thus, my confusion my friend. 😎
When I saw the title I thought it would be a short of the word Nothing in bright red letters just flashing on the screen..
I needed to explain myself why it’s perfect
I agree my RKC there was no other bike I owned like her, although one day like to have more newer bike for long trips and some of the bells and whistles lol
Get that and why I feel blessed to have both worlds. Ride safe
@@BoDean52 you too
id love to have a 2000 road king because i can ride and dont need new tec
Many times less technology is so much better
Buying an old classic to compliment the newer ride is beginning to make a lot of sense to me!
Thank you, wise one! 😉✌️😂
Think our wives think that way too? Appreciate you mate
My favorite comment EVER and I totally agree. When you find that special bike, you just know it! Ride safe
Love my 17 Ultra Limited....but I Adore my 03 Dyna Wide Glide!!!!
You really have the same deal as me, we are fortunate
Good video buddy
Thanks my man!
The Road King Classic is 200 lbs lighter than the 2021 Road Glide. So, there's that.
Great point and I can really tell when I rode the king
I feel the same about my 05 Road king my wife tells me all the time she wishes I would look at her like I do at my bike lol
Tell her to sit on the bike and you will 😂
That is a fine ride my friend!....how could anyone have regrets with a classic like that!!...great video...thanks for sharing...stay safe...ride safe!!😎👍🤙👍🤙🇨🇦
Appreciate you my friend from the North
Nice Bob, got to love a classic 😍
Thanks Bert, appreciate you
I do miss my 2015 Road King!
Totally get that, I love this king
The road king is king! Sounds good and rides like a king's ride. I ride an 09 RK classic and to me it's king. It's truly a thrilling ride. 👍🏽🤠 6/2/23
Amen to that and great to have a 👑
Haa! That's exactly, word for word, what I thought you were going to say Mr Bo!!😎🍻
Boom.....what else could I say :)
Late nineties bikes are the best.
yeah and I sure love this 2000
A great looking bike for sure.
Thanks brother
Nice vid and nice bike Bo, I was looking at buying an 03 aniversary model RK last week but sold before I could get there. This one had high bars on it and I like the bars you've got on yours, are they factory?
That 03 would have been great, took me awhile to find this one. They are stock bars, ride safe!
I have a 2002 Road King Classic.. and I too love it ... Question for you .. What kind of camera do you use for your riding videos?.. They look great!
Thanks I appreciate that. You have a super cool bike. I use a GoPro 7 attached to my chin for video and I use a Sena10 C for the audio. And then mix them together when I edit.
Bike sounds good in this one do you have a full exhaust or slip ons ?
Funny you ask as I have always assumed they were slip ons since I bought it used. Now I’m gonna have to go down and look 😂
@@BoDean52 Sounds good let me know what you found out I wondered if it would make it louder since our years didn't have a cat.
Why did you change back to leather bags
Liked the bags but prefer the old style look.
Keep the tech for me the road king trumps them all.
Amen to that!
I got a 03 classic and I'll keep my bike until God brings me home its all stock white walls and all gonna keep it that way I love my road king
Same here Doug, bury me on it
My SG is a 2010, would I like a new bike with all the cool stuff, yes, but it’s paid for, and gets me where I need to go…
Paid for is a great bike, I had a 2016 SGS and loved it
Yep. Exactly.
just traded my 2000 RKC for a 21 ultra. get you some MM injectors off ebay, get them rebuilt and set them aside. they are hard to find. the fuel pump will cross over to a walbro at NAPA. and the fuel line disco's are still avail at the dealer. dont go with aftermarket. i miss it but then i go out on the ultra and im good. its a diff beast aint it? not as refined and i can sling that 88TC all over the road.
Great advice on the road king and you’re gonna love the ultra
Ride what you love ! For the love of riding !! 👍❤✌
AMEN to that!
Amén 2 That ..! 😉👍
Appreciate that and ride safe
👍🤘🇺🇲🇺🇲🇺🇲
Thanks Flip
I don’t get the adv bike trend. Most of those people you’ll find on their adv bikes parked in front of a Starbucks anyway. I went way different than my 2019 ultra and got a 2007 Fjr. The mechanicals on the Fjr are still more advanced and it’s a 2007. Sure I like the Harley but I only take it out for those longer day rides and two up rides. Stay safe
Agree and I was going to do a video on that....it would sure get people fired up
@@BoDean52 I hate to say it but it’s mostly true.
So true, it’s a feel
