  • Real Parmesan cheese is actually written Parmigian or Parmigiano Reggiano. It comes from Parma Italy and there's zero comparison to any imitation variety that you may come across. You can get it for a great deal from Costco for $10.50 a pound. If you know where to get it cheaper here in the United States, then please let me know!

    Thank you so much. This video was so helpful. I spent over an hour in the grocery store looking at cheese and an other hour looking at TH-cam videos on cheese. I'm so subscribing 😀

    10/lb is a great price in USA. In Italy a 24 month seasoned Parmigiano is priced around 12€/kg or 6,45$/lb.

      You need to keep it out the fridge for a bit before eat it. When it’s packed like the Kirkland needs to be taken out of the plastic for a day.

    Cheese needs to breath, use cheese paper or cheese bags which let the cheese breath. It will last for months if you store it probably. Wrapping your cheese in plastic is why you have mold.

    Costco should not shred this cheese as it looses flavor- need to leave it whole like before, as flavor keeps better- will not buy shredded again.

      Stencil is on the diametric surface of the wheel, the origin medal is on the packaging. The wheel its cut from will have a verification number they can enter into a database but it does not survive at the wedge level.

    Thats not real parmesan. Parmesan is aged for a shorter amount of time. that looks like it's been aged longer. Parmesan is a lighter color.

    • @552mustang
      @552mustang 6 ปีที่แล้ว +18

      Amy Nguyen Listen very carefully. This is DOP certified Reggiano. I checked Costcos sourcing and they have the certified status, which is legally required for all products with reggiano in the name and imported. So you are WRONG. Do not ever post comments with blatently untrue statements, its the worst part of youtube. Real news not fake news

      There are 3 different grades based on length of aging. Maybe you saw a different grade. I doubt Costco is in business selling illegal counterfeit cheese. Illegal in Europe, technically legal here I suppose to call it something it’s not, but this is real. It should not be refrigerated like they have it but that’s my only complaint.
