I have seen Tyler live a few times. I discovered him and Ron Pope at the same time and they both are brilliant writers, artists and vocalists. They carry the same torch as that genius bunch Todd Snider, Fred Eaglesmith, Townes Van Zandt, Hayes Carll and Ray Wily Hubbard along with so many other artists in what I think of as a roots/folk scene. Colter Wall is in that group. God, I could name so many others but at the very core of roots music is Woody Guthrie, Townes Van Zandt, Guy Clark and Steve Earle. You can't half ass it with great stage shows and autotune if you follow in the footsteps of those guys. Shout out to the women too, Lucinda Williams, Loretta Lynn, Alison Kraus, Emmy Lou Harris, Gillian Welch, The Civil Wars and so many others. It’s such a beautiful genre of music. Thank you so much for doing Tyler! You have so much to be exposed to and I can’t can’t wait to watch!
This song hits a particular place. My boyfriend's grandmother's name was May, and we heard this song for the first time the day after she died. It gave us chills and he broke down. Such a beautiful song.
Most of his slang and the way that he sings his words is how people from Eastern Kentucky talk. He is from my hometown in east Kentucky. The emotion is there because every boy from that area gets what he is saying drilled into them from a young age.
Usually I check RVA on songs / artists I am familiar with, but I took a flyer and checked this unknown out... as usual, the review by RVA was insightful and entertaining. The song... a true surprise. His voice is authentic - that's about the best word to describe. You can paint a picture by the words, tone and emotion that he expresses. Very cool. Props to all.
I might be Americasplaning this too much for anyone's wanting BUT Tyler is from Kentucky and this music is often thought of as Appellation Country, as be it for the mountain range, and what is a terrifying and outrageous true that is ravaging the rural white communities like the Kentucky Appellations towns is prescription opioids. These communities harbor hard working labor jobs and the treatment for hurt backs and intense pain from hard labor these days is scripts and surgery. When his dad tells him to keep his "nose out the pills" it is because he hurt his back working hard labor in the mines and knows the hell of addiction. This country music is the soul of revolution telling a story of personal anguish, hope, family, and of systemic problems that have gone ignored for too long. Tyler is American as it gets and I'm proud he is helping to carry this torch. That being said, if you want to go down a disgusting rabbit hole check out opioids in southern poor counties and in eastern major cities specifically in the poor regions and you will be angry for weeks.
Warning: long comment...The original has almost 17 million views! This could be alot of guitarists listening over and over to learn how to play it but...something is going on here!! The lyrics remind me of "Simple Man" but it is "Daddy told me" instead of "Momma told me." This song has more gravitas which the patriarchal point of view reinforces. Musically, a classic minor blues, the a flat to e flat to f riff under the melody is haunting. I'm hearing that over an e flat to b flat to f minor chord sequence, so this adds some dissonance which further reinforces the lyric and the blues scale melody. And the production work is very high. You are not going to go in your garage and record a video like this. A small point---the guitar uses a capo on the third fret which produces a tighter sound and adds to the tension. Rebecca, you covered the vocal. Thanks as always. So considering these crazy times this song might be a good choice for a new national anthem here in the US and perhaps UK as well. We gotta keep it real!
I'm sitting in Kentucky trying to watch this reaction to Mr. Childers. My internet connection is fucked up like a soup sandwich so I'm getting it a little at a time. Thank you for checking this out. Colter Wall Is the next logical step.

"God man" - one of the all time best and genuine reactions to raw talent I have seen EVER. Thank you for sharing - and yeah I don't blame you - pretty crazy good.
What I love about his music is every album shows different parts of Appalachian music. His singing in this is similar to hollering which is descendent of yodeling. People can sing this song without instruments and it’s still amazing
I worked in the coal mines for the past 17 years and the meaning of the song mixed with the emotions is dead on. the vocals express how dramatic the work and the life you have to balance at home.

“Devil Wears A Suit And Tie” COLTER WALL it will blow your vocal mind
Usually I check RVA on songs / artists I am familiar with, but I took a flyer and checked this unknown out... as usual, the review by RVA was insightful and entertaining. The song... a true surprise. His voice is authentic - that's about the best word to describe. You can paint a picture by the words, tone and emotion that he expresses. Very cool. Props to all.
NICK SHOULDERS “Snakes and Waterfalls “...if you liked this, then you will LOVE this
I just came from your Devin Townsend reaction videos. Glad to see you’re covering some of my favorite artists!
Damn "is he a Kentucky boy" so freaken spot on 👌🏽
OMG!! I’ve been waiting for you to react to him! Haha. Tyler truly is something else!
“Keep the wolves away” Uncle Lucius
One of my favorite singers
I'm always interested to see how true American country lands in European audiences
Billy Strings - dust in a baggy
Sierra Ferrell- gladden house special 2019 (all three songs). She's absolutely phenomenal
Appalachian....please thanks
That little hum you added at the end was a very nice touch.
“The music is soaked on his soul.”I think someone else here is soaked also...
His was the best concert I’ve been to. I love his voice.
Ooo. Do Sturgill Simpson next.
Thank you thank you!!! He's one of my favorites and I'm happy to see you liked him as well!!!
Gotta do Jason Isbell "cover me up" on Austin city limits
Songs she sang in the shower and Yvette are my favorites but cover me up is what started it all for me with Jason. Awesome song writer
Vampires is another excellent choice. Jason Isbell is one of the very best songwriters of this generation
Agreed, saw him live two years ago. Amazing.
Repping home to the fullest!!! People need to see paintsville Kentucky to see where that soul comes from!
Don’t break my heart it’s me first
:)))))))
wowie I loved hearing your hum at the end with him. Beautiful
I'm so pleasantly surprised to see his. I'm also from Kentucky and want to thank you for the reaction
“Is he a ky boy? Idk” good guess.
I'm sitting in Kentucky trying to watch this reaction to Mr. Childers. My internet connection is fucked up like a soup sandwich so I'm getting it a little at a time. Thank you for checking this out. Colter Wall Is the next logical step.
best reaction channel by far, the perfect combination of beauty and knowledge
This guy is from Kentucky. About 2 hour drive from where I live. Seen him at Headliners live. quite the performance. Great Music.
Crazy how successful a dude who grew up 20 minutes from me has become. Jammed with him years and years ago. Being successful and from southeast KY is very unusual. Especially the Harlan area.
Howdy from southern U.S. . I first saw you react to Chris Stapleton. You have a fun personality. Have yourself a blessed day ma'am!
"God man" - one of the all time best and genuine reactions to raw talent I have seen EVER. Thank you for sharing - and yeah I don't blame you - pretty crazy good.
Your humming at the end with the song gave me chills
Glad to see a local making it big. This songs speaks alot about where we're from and the drug epidemic that plagues this area.
Wow. Just Wow. He has the voice of American music. Thank you very much for this reaction Rebecca. Simply wonderful.
yes ma'am KY boy indeed, lots of WV in there too though appalachias finest, what a breathe of fresh air because you dont hear THIS on the radio anymore
There's too much in this world I can't seem to shake...chills..
I never thought I would see a vocal coach reacting to my FAVORITE VOCAL ARTIST of all time the great Tyler Childers.👏👏👏
Can relate to this song so much, as a good ole country boy from Tennessee.
reaction or not you should listen to more of him. he is such an amazin person when you meet him to just so down to earth .
I love thank guys like him are finally getting recognition on social media he’s a great modern artist with deep country music roots his music is classic country music made in the modern era of country music. Him, Cody Jinks, Colter Wall and Turnpike Troubadours and Paul Cauthen all need some recognition for their art which is under appreciated
