I have stopped practicing my English for about 4 years… These days I started with watching TH-cam vedios in English and found that I can understand almost all the content I heard...amazing.
Now i’m learning egyptian arabic, persian and urdu together, I wish i could keep my passion all along the time
I'm sure that you will be able to continue, by the way I'm happy to see you learn arabic language
good luck

Yes, I took about 4 months from studying spanish and found that when I got back I was breezing through the lesson. Same for Arabic, I am extremely new to the language but started with some basic vocab last year. When I got back on it tonight, I was surprised when things that took me a week to master last year only took me seconds to recall and apply! Definitely experienced that.
My language personality for Spanish is more rural Mexican, lol. I haven't got one for Arabic yet. I'm interested to see how it manifests.
its really nice to see persons learning spanish! (I'm from Chile c:)
@@Inbydev It's a good language to to learn. I don't know why, but I found it way easier to start learning than French. I'm not sure though if it were the circumstances or the language. (I learned French in school and recently started learning Spanish on my own. (Native german speaker)m

BRUUUUUUH THIS IS THE MOST HELPFUL VIDEO like I've been searching and searching about "how to learn many languages at the same time" but none of them really helped me as you did! also the video is not too long yet still helpful! thank you, thank you sm!
I remember Steve Kaufmann talking about languages "gestating" in your mind when you take a break from them and I really felt like I could relate with this sensation! It must have something to do with active recall being easier if it's drawing from long-term memory or something along those lines.
I also loved your notion of language personalities. I always noticed this, living in Acadian Canada, because my teachers seemed completely different people when they spoke English vs. French. I think it's one of the only good habits I picked up from learning French in a classroom setting, and I find myself absorbing some of the traits of people who speak each language very intuitively. Because of this, I don't really have a hard time switching quickly between languages or studying two languages at the same time (except Irish and Romanian, not sure how I get them confused because they're pretty dissimilar lol).
Recently I started learning Fusha and after remembering that you said MSA and Quranic Arabic were really similar I decided to try picking up some vocab with Kalaam. Well, I accidentally fell in love with The Quran and now I've shifted my focus to learning that instead of MSA! Turns out you learn a lot faster when you enjoy what you're learning lol. I get so into the "Arabic language rhythm" that I find sometimes even without the harakat, I can guess how the word will sound even if I have no idea what it means. I guess that's something similar to a language personality (or more of a mindset?).
Always love watching your channel, seeing your face light up when you speak in a language you love motivates me so much! أسلام عليكم ❤️
I totally agree in separating languages or learning languages that are distinct from one another. I reached a solid level in Spanish and wanted to learn French (which I already knew its basics from school) but as you’ve mentioned, both languages were often overlapping especially before reaching a solid/good level in French. This did not happen when I started learning Spanish after having a very strong base in German (as both languages are relatively far from each other). The second point you’ve mentioned regarding pausing for a couple of months or so and then coming back feeling better somehow is totally true and I could confirm this. However, to enjoy this status, you’ll need to already have a good base of the language paused. If you’re still an absolute beginner (around A1 and starting A2 or so), that would prove more difficult. Greetings to you Brian, great video! 😄
Dude, I saw you first in Person of Interest. You were amazing in it. Pleasantly surprised to see you have a youtube channel as well. You give off very positive vibes.

Great video 😎, in fact I agree with you on several things. I am a beginner in both languages that I am learning now, but I feel this wonderful change in my personality, and it is really boring and difficult to devote the same time and effort to learning two languages together, so I was pleased with your words about taking a break and It does not impair progress in the language learning process. Keep it up, the video was on time 😁

Very interesting video Brian! I really enjoy your content. I have also had the same exact experience with feeling that I have improved in a language after taking a short break. It happened to me with Greek. I think our brains just need a short break to essentially "digest the information" to make sense of it. The human brain is such a fascinating and amazing thing 🧠 I currently speak French 🇫🇷, Spanish 🇲🇽, and Português 🇧🇷 and am currently learning Italian 🇮🇹, Greek 🇬🇷 and Arabic 🇪🇬 🙉😅 I like the idea of improving one at a time because I'm currently doing the "try to learn them all at the same speed" method and I think your way might work better. Besides, the 3 languages that I'm studying aren't at the same levels
Thanks very much- I'm glad to know I'm not the only one who's had that experience. And I agree 100% re: our brains needing time to digest information!

I also have found that learning multiple languages and “taking a break” on them still kind of helps when I go back! I do have to get warmed up to them again when I start, or I have the problem of just speaking Korean when I want to speak French in my current case! I think just learning more about how one language works helps put even totally different languages a little more into focus. I'm going to try to do your language personality idea to help me separate better as well!
Yes, I definitely also have to ‘warm up’ when I get back into a language after taking a break!

You spoke very fast, but i could catch you. So clear words ,easy to understand. You make me want to speak English fluently❤🙏
Interesting tips. I agree with the idea of learning different languages based on levels. I tend to use Spanish as my bridge language for Korean, Chinese and German. But not for Italian or French.
However, I tend to play a game to keep my Korean and Chinese vocabulary straight.
Hello is English, what is it in Spanish? Hola. What is it in Chinese? 你好. What is it in Korean? 안녕하세요. What is it in Italian? Ciao.
Then I go to the next word or phrase. What's up? Que pasa? 什么事?
But I never thought about creating a personality per language. This is an excellent idea. I will figure this out and apply it. This sounds like fun.
谢谢奴 Brian!!! 😊

This video is so inspiring as I’m also wondering if I can learn French and Spanish at the same time. I’ve got my own answer after watching you sharing about it. Thanks for the motivation!
In learning Spanish and Portuguese, I have found it helpful to study them side by side, looking at the similarities and the differences, to keep them straight. Best of luck to you!
This was something I was just thinking about today. I’ve been trying to think about how to maintain my Japanese while also studying Chinese and Spanish. I’m at different levels of proficiency with all three so one of your tips applies to me. The one about language personalities is an interesting idea. I’ll need to reflect on what mine are. Thanks for posting the video.
I study at science University , do you think that completing learning Japanese will be useful to me?
I already trilingual (arabic english French)
@@tarteelhesham1404 I’m not sure what your goals are for learning Japanese so I can’t say how ‘useful’ it would be. If you plan on working in Japan or if you are planning to work for a company that does business with Japan then of course it would be. If it’s just for the sake of knowing another language then I can’t really say it would useful. The language is quite different from what you’ve already learned so it’ll take a lot more effort than you might expect. However, learning it will help give you insight into a very beautiful country and its culture.
I was watching the series Billions and I was shocked when I saw you in it. You are a very excellent actor

Yes I’ve definitely experienced taking a break from one language while learning another. Learning languages which are closely related (French Italian Spanish Portuguese) is hard at first, but the grammatical similarities help thereafter. As for learning Arabic & Chinese together, there's no initial confusion at first, but quite a challenge thereafter.
It probably depends on what level one wants to achieve: just everyday talking & understanding, or more in depth linguistic knowledge!?!

I also really want to start learning french from the scratch, I only know how to greet sb in french. Should I wait with learning french until I improve my spanish? I will have plenty of time soon because of the vacation break. Thanks for any advice.
Hi! I hope you don't mind my sharing my opinion. I think, you should go for it and learn both. Here is why: as a kid, I first started learning German in preschool in my country, Hungary. For several years, it was only that. Then, when I was around 13, my school introduced English. I was afraid of learning it because at that time, I feared my German would deteriorate. I feared I couldn't learn both. I did what was necessary at school but didn't really commit myself to in-depth study of it. Then as I got older, I realized I have to learn English, because this is the language almost everyone speaks on the planet. And guess what? My German didn't deteriorate. Still, even then, I was cautious and took great care ro nurture both my language skills. Then, during the pandemic, I watched videos about smart learning, and came across the concept of polyglots. It completely blew my mind. It never occured to me before that it's just fear limiting me and that a lot of humans can indeed learn multiple languages and become polyglots. The Swiss do it since nany years and it's normal there to speak 3 or more languages. They just do it. If they can, we can too. So now I am learning Italian too, and I regret I didn't start sooner. I also regret not advancing my English knowledge sooner. So, in my opinion, you should definetely go for it and learn both languages! Just practice the other foreign language(s) regularly too. There are a lot of language learning videos here and they help to keep your knowledge active, along with reading, listening to songs, and if you can afford it, language tutors. I cannot afford private 1:1 language tutors for 3 different languages at the same time, but I am doing good on my own, with self-study, reading, watching videos and listening to songs. It's enough for me and good for my budget. I wish you great success!
