Roy Wayne Farris has come a long way from his heel days as the HTM and tells it like it is about the wrestling business. I miss his audio commentaries on the website he used to have -- there was fact based, inside stuff there that even most investigative reporters wouldn't touch. It is absolutely appalling what wrestling has become under McMahon, especially with drugs and it's good to see people like Farris call him out.
I was able to meet and watch HTM wrestle at Ft. Leavenworth KS in 97. The man took the time to take pictures with me and my younger sister and talk with us as if he'd known us our whole lives. I already had respect for that man, but after watching this video, I have much more respect for him. HTM, you are an icon in the sport and a class act guy.
This reminds me of what Ric Flair once wrote in his autobiography re a well-known group of wrestlers: 'Drugs, not wrestling, destroyed [them].' We have been warned. 'You can't fly if you're high.' - Anti-drug radio ad.
I have to agree with HTM also. He's telling the truth i think especially about who's really going to pay if they start testing. I think even Vince was using at one point.
He has got a point. Most promotions don`t have anyone on the juice. It is the huge promotions like the WWE with most of their performers jacked up on steroids. Personally, I like the smaller promotions cuz they are more creative and fun to watch.
+Jon Doe I do, too. As a matter of fact, when I was interviewed by the local newspaper at a wrestling match at the county fair, I brought up how much I would rather attend an indie show than a televised event. I skirted around the steroid issue but did bring up what I like to think is a good point - I told the reporter that they have too filler content in WWE's shows, and that they need to get rid of it and focus more on the wrestling since that's what we fans pay to watch.
OMG - I used to HATE the HTM on WWF. But after many years and now youtube -- the truth comes out from a man I used to hate as a fan of WWF. I now have respect for HTM and Ultimate Warrior for exposing wrestling entertainment regarding performance enhancement drugs.
The suspended or fired wrestlers are people like Simon Dean, Funaki, John Morrison and others who don't look too juiced compared to people like John Cena, yet the smaller wrestlers are getting busted.
I met HTM not too long ago, and he was a very humble, down to earth guy. We talked about his grandkids and life after wrestling. This video is a very different individual than the person I interacted with haha.
I don't disagree. I asked HTM which promoter he enjoyed working for most of all. He told me that he'd rather have worked for Stu Hart his entire career than go anywhere else ("...except that Canada was too damn cold," his own words.). He said Stu was great to work for, because you knew you were getting paid, and you knew whatever he said he was going to do, he did. With some of the other promoters (insert Vince's name here), he couldn't say the same.
HTM runs off at the mouth frequently, but as others have said I find him hard not to believe because of the matter of fact way he puts things. He freely admits that as long as he's got a view to share and people are listening, he's keeping his name out there, which usually equates to work for him. Shameless self-promoter, but usually the frankest pro wrestler you'll listen to anywhere.
Yes he would still be speaking for those guys. Don't forget he also had to come up through the smaller promotions to get to the WWF in the first place. And even though he doesn't make as much money as he used to, he still has a lot of money from all that he made while working in the WWF. He's done interviews from his home before and he has a pretty impressive sized home with a good amount of property.
The only reason i can think of for why HTM hates Vince is something a couple friends told me about meeting him several years back -- That he remarked he thinks he should've held the Intercontinental Championship one more time and that he supposedly kept asking Vince for another shot and that Vince almost caved but then changed his mind and said he was pairing HTM with Greg Valentine; He apparently feels Vince was trying to end both his career, or that's the impression i got from the story.
If I had any suggestions for HTM it would be This,For the small Independent Promotions they should offer Free Drug Testing ,It would only be fair seeing that on a good night an Independent Promotion can make maybe total $70,000 and that is only an estimated flat amount but when you count what they have to pay the Wrestlers that counts for about 30% of that $70,000 which doesn't leave a lot for the Promoters themselves.
Lets just hope that, because his point about steroids is dead on, one he doesnt use math in his argument and two he doesnt wear his shirt unbuttoned like that in court.
@@charlesbukowski9836 It makes total sense that someone who idolizes Bukowski would think that violence is the appropriate way to engage a person with whom you disagree.
@Zeeboe I met him recently and he doesn't seem bitter at all and seems to enjoy doing what he does and he keeps himself busy. He said in another video that he'll keep on doing these shows till he gets tired of doing it and can make a living doing it. It's not always about money.
I always wanted to ask him whether it was his choice to retire in 1990 or if it was something Vince tried to force on him, though i'm going with the latter based on things i've heard. I believe they did tell me he said he quit the WWF in '91 because he didn't like the way he was being treated. I think the sad truth is Vince is not above using and manipulating people, and he grounds or disposes of them when they no longer suit his needs. Meanwhile, Stu Hart was known as a nice, honest guy...
HTM's personality might not be like other wrestlers' personalities. He's outspoken and he's aggressive. He's very vocal. But that doesn't have anything to do with whether or not he's speaking truth. If he's saying something logical then it should be listened to and taken for what it's worth.
@TNAROHfan BTW, I don't know of any local promotions that are pulling in even close to 70,000 on a consistent basis for a gate do you? Not when most are lucky to draw a few hundred fans about 10-12 times a year. That's why so many guys are working these stops on the circuit as regulars for twenty to forty bucks a night. If they weren't paid so little, the promotions couldn't afford to hotshot higher priced talent to draw the crowds.
@CreatureFeatureFred Thats true, I havent. I was just basing it off many years experience with guys at the gym (where I was always one of the only strong people not on roids). But if you say their physique is crap, then could be my little guestimate was off :)
True, I guess Warrior does have more intensity than Trips on an objective standpoint when it comes to cutting promos, but I personally think Trips was a better worker in the ring. As intense as the Warrior was, that intensity was the only thing that let him keep his job. He was wreckless and stiff as hell in the ring - nobody wanted to work with him. HHH is as a better storyteller and worker in the ring than Warrior to this day. Look at his last WM match against Taker, or the one before that.
Im glad that some of the old wrestlers come out and expose the company (Vince) and so of his golden boys. We all know it exists even in kayfabe. Real people in phoney sitautions brings out the REAL BITCH in some. I just watched Warriors 50mins prelude to his soon tell-all book. Can't Wait
I bet there's alot more guys juicing up on the independant scene than HTM is making out, BUT he is right, if the tests do cost that much then wrestling is in huge trouble if every wrestler starts needing to be tested they'll be alot of promotions struggling finiancially. And that's if the promoters pay, if it's the wrestlers then the poor kid's are screwed
I don't think HTM is a mean or hateful guy; I just think he is a little bitter over some things that happened to him long ago. And while it's probably true what he and a few other old timers are saying, i have to question if they'd be saying it if they'd gotten a "fairer shake" from Vince. Though i really can't say what he is bitter over or why; Because from my point-of-view, HTM had a good run in the WWF and i do believe it was Vince's idea to make him a heel, though i could be wrong.
I believe it's probably true with HTM, i just think Hogan enjoys it just as much... All these guys probably do it for the same reasons, basically to feed their egos so they can keep telling themselves they matter in the world of pro wrestling... Though, in Hogan's case, he will probably never go away; He'll always have some kinda media attention, even when he dies...
@TheMrwrestlingnerd I typed it wrong.it was supposed to say..........S*** I hate math. I dont care how many wrestlers he sees....hes totally right about this tho.
@CreatureFeatureFred If you tried reading what i wrote you would realize i never said he was on the juice. I only said that i wondered if the only reason he cares about wrestlers trying to break into the business was because that is who we wrestles on a weekly basis. I also didn't say that it wasn't true what he said about who the drug test was gonna hurt. Back when he was a big name, on the juice or not, he was one of the people who could easily afford the drugtest.
@Fultonfalcons86 I assume you're talking about the 2000 wrestlers in 10 months. HTM says he sees 20 wrestlers each weekend and he wrestles 10 months. In 10 months we get about 43 weekends so it is 43x20=860. There, math done.
I'm an indy wrestler (Yes I know I'm not too good at it). But even in the smaller companies I wrestle at, roids are being used. I think the great upcoming wrestlers who could make it to WWE or similar status see it as it's ok because no-one cares that much now. The rules are don't get caught taking 'em. And of course the damage they will do to you will be karma.
I must be missing something here, how the fuck does he even remotely resemble Warrior? I've seen limited footage of the latter, so... serious question.

@thetoon99 Along the lines that the talent is all the same and their all massive and not much more can be said about them than their size and that's how Vince likes it. That steroids are still as in use now as they were when he was around and that much of Vince's fortune has been right place right time and all he cares for is money.

I wonder....If they had started the whole drug testing thing up when HTM was a big name with the Intercontinental title, would he still have been speaking for the guys trying to break in to the business who couldn't affort the drug test. Or would he not care because he probably made enough money at the time? Oh and by the way...how did 20 wrestlers each weekend get to be 2000 in 10 months?
So... no, I don't think he has Warrior-envy. Warrior could barely wrestle his dick out of his pants and be wreckless with his co-workers, while Triple H is a veteran who knows exactly what he's doing.
I've never been sure though because Hogan likes to stir shit up too so i can't really take anything he says at face value. And it's not just Hogan, HTM, or even Ultimate Warrior... Most of the retired or semi-retired WWF guys love to take shots at each other whether it's true or not.
