To anyone looking for a fix not mentioned in this video:
Our ice maker worked flawlessly for nine years. One day, the ice started to clump and get clogged. I noticed that water was coming over the ice tray, into the ice bucket and causing everything to freeze together.
I doubted after nine years that our water pressure suddenly spiked. I removed the ice maker (see other videos… it’s just three screws and a plug connection). I stuck a toothpick up into the water supply line and found it was getting clogged by hard water deposits. That was causing the water to come out as a hard spray, deflect off the plastic and go over the ice tray into the bucket.
Cleared out the tube, reassembled the ice maker and haven’t had the problem since. Good luck.

Hello. What was the problem and how you fix it? Change water value?

I will add mine. Same here. LG bottom freezer worked fine for nearly four years now. Same problem you described. I took everything apart and removed my ice maker (see other videos). All but two ice cube spots were completely frozen, with a flat ice sheet over them and not dumping when the ice maker would flip and dump the ice.
The new water for making new ice cubes was just running over the frozen solid ice cube spots and running into the ice bucket. My solution was to take the ice cube maker to the bathroom and use my wifes hair dryer to thaw the frozen ice cube spots enough to where the block of ice fell out!
I dont know what caused the cubes to start sticking and not dump out over time, but now it's back to working fine.

Awesome recommendation. Mine is now 9 years old too, same issue. Never would have thought about the hardwater deposits. Thanks for this.

I've done appliance repair for 30 years, and I don't think I've ever come across this problem caused by water pressure. It was usually caused by a faulty valve that was seeping water into the icemaker.

    • @dthorne4602
      @dthorne4602 10 หลายเดือนก่อน

when the water inlet valve goes bad, you can get too much or too little water in the mold during the refill phase, not just from a slow leak after the fact. If this happens, until you replace the valve, the only way to get by is to rotate the time adjust screw to compensate, a little bit of trial and error, but it can absolutely keep the tray from overfilling.

This refrigerator has a new ice cube maker as coating wore off the OEM. But, instead of a saddle valve everyone sells, I installed a ball valve. It drip at the back and the cubes freeze together. I have adjusted water timer in front (The Brilliant Mechanism designed 50 years ago) but we have high water pressure. Never bought gauge for another tool as I have over $150k in tools & boxes after fixing cars for 38+ years. Turning the ball valve down to almost closed, seems to be the answer, adjust cube size afterwards. Regulators are active devices the adjust to pressure that effects volume. At the main, this would change showers to sprinklers. But, behind the fridge will effects fridge only. I believe turning down the volume of water behind the fridge, adjusting the size of the cubes to match the volume of water. Without volume, pressure drops. I will adjust the volume at the ball valve, as this reduces pressure like resistance in an electrical circuit to reduce over flowing by the adjustable timer to fill the ice cube tray assembly that is new (Old one last 40 yrs / new ones last 11 yrs) as the coating is applied by dunking instead of electro-plating the cost more, but lasted four times longer.
If I am wrong, tell me where!

sooo... "slabbing"... could that be caused by your refrigerator not being level? Ive had 3 ice makers replaced throughout our warranty and all 3 have done the same "ice clumping" issue. always in the same spot in the tray!. front left corner. i just assumed it was where the water line feeds the freezing part but now im thinking that its because like most furniture leans away from the wall that maybe my fridge is leaning toward me? and that the water level is building as it freezes in the front of the tray but not freezing equally? and that's why it always fails in the same spot. If you've ever looked at the back of anything heavy and tall that is positioned against a wall in your house...after time is always leans towards the center of the room because the floor sinks in that direction.
im willing to bet that most people (including myself) never understood the importance of leveling your appliances especially when any kind of water was involved.

What about a solenoid valve seeping? Water pressure?

Is it possible to adjust the ice level on our new LG LFRGC2706S refrigerator? The ice tray (bucket) is quite large & automatically fills up to over 2/3 full of cubed ice. Rarely need that much ice. Would like to be able to adjust the ice level.

Tip: To calibrate how much water was coming into tray, pull inlet hose out of the back, hit reset manually, measure the water that comes out.
I was able to retrieve one cube from my slabbed over tray, melted it down to "normal" size which turned out to be 1/2 oz. So for a 12 cube tray, 6 oz of water is what was needed to fill tray. Your tray model may vary.
I adjusted the water line valve, and no more over spray. You can start with 6 oz as a guide for your ice maker, or try to freeze a cube, thaw and measure it. I backed mine down to just under 6 oz. No more overspray or icebergs. Good luck.

Couldn't it also be the solenoid sticking open temporarily?

I'm getting slabbing with my ice in the refrigerator door. Also, with the craft ice, I'll get a few ice balls that are normal, but then the bin just fills with water and freezes together with the ice balls at the bottom of the tray rendering the entire craft ice tray output useless. In my case, the water pressure is probably too low due to a feed from a reverse osmosis system. We've never had any issues with this system (low water pressure) in any of our previous refrigerators. How many homeowners actually know their water pressure at the refrigerator? Asking homeowners to adjust their water pressure to fall within a specific range to suit the refrigerator's needs seems like a bit much for LG to ask their customers and leads me to believe it is a design flaw by LG, which IMHO should be fixed with a voluntary recall.

It is a bit much. Take the back off and check to see if the water flow valve is working properly and has no leakage because that will affect how much water is being dispensed for the ice tray.

20-120 psi has been the spec on water to the fridge basically since the water to the fridge has been a thing .
That’s just normal house pressure tho so don’t sweat it, what likely really happened here was they put diodes in line with the water valves so when those diodes failed they activate the ice maker valve and the dispenser valve even if you only activate one of them 😂

Non oem Water filter ? Filter pressure at dispenser seems much higher , compared to authentic oem filter , right when we changed it , we had slabbing.

This video is freaking dumb. There was dozen more likely things to happen before you have a water pressure problem. Seems like lard as s is deflecting for LG.
