Back in the mid 80s my dad had a 4620 with heat and air cab dual wheels and a front end loader..he sold it and bought a 3020 which I still have and as of this week I found the 4620 my dad had and fixing to get it..that was a beast of a tractor for a kid in high school..love the old tractors

Great history. The 4620 was big power in its day. They look great with a cab and duals.

In my opinion. The 70s 120-180hp tractors were the best workhorses. It's still expensive to maintain but not as worse as the big 4x4 and newer tractors. I own a 74 Case 1270 with hub duals, rebuilt pwrshift. I can pull 11 shank chisel plow, and a 20ft gang disc. I had a guy that I was buying an implement. He owned a Case 2390. He said the 90 series Cases has electric problems compared to the 70 series Case. He used to own a 1370. He said the 1370 was a better tractor than the 2390. I'm glad I brought a big 70s workhorse.

Truly the golden years of farming, IMO, & feel very grateful for being a very small part of it. My favorite during those years was the 1066 - just a great, tough, versatile tractor.

The workhorse of the Deere stable was the 4020, that was our primary tractor that had just enough horsepower for the tillage and everything below. The 4020 with a year-a-round cab is probably the only tractor I miss from the farm that I grew up with using. Used a 3 shank straight tooth ripper that was a workout to pull, but she did it with little to no regret.

I lived on a dairy farm in Upstate N.Y with my mother and stepfather and luckily it was a nice free stall operation. They had a 3010,4020 and a 5020 which was badass. But then my stepfather bought a run down old little farm with one run down small Oliver and he got a small Ford selecto- matic, life sucked.Than I joined the Seabees and ran some nice big stuff....over 40 years later I had my fill .But I wouldn't mind doing some tractor operating out west during the season. We were a JD family, first one I ran was a old 720 as a kid about 1968 but I can’t count the hours I spent on legendary 4020’s. We had a 4520 later that I loved, Soundgard cab, but I spent more time in the 7520, great tractor, so is was cool to see the 6030. A 4440, 4840 and a 8440 followed but by then I was away to collage. Went home for harvest for many, many years so would love to see a video of combines like this and into the 80’s and 90’s.

My choices of the Big Iron tractors of the 70s are, Allis Chalmers 8550 & John Deere 6030 👍🏻

The 70s was actually the eighth decade of the century....a point to ponder. We had a JD 4230, 4430, 4630 and Allis 8550. Lost the farm due to the high interest rates of the 80s coupled with low grain prices. Thankfully a local farmer here on Vancouver Island has given me a place on his team this past year when COVID hit to help me through the emotional impact that it has had on many of us. I have a lot of photos and videos from this year's work posted on my facebook if you are interested.

If “modern” farmers would run muscle tractors they wouldn’t be up to their eyeballs in debt!

Only problem with that is the parts for the tractors aren’t easy to find, just like anything that’s older they parts for them stop being reproduced because the ever so technology of this modern world. But I’m right there with you. I’ve always found the older anything works better, last longer & is more efficient.

Yea but you can't do 1000s of acres with muscle tractors either. Newer tractors are way more fuel efficient. Not knocking older tractors but I prefer the newer stuff

@@Vickvineager Actually it dose, before phosphate and spraying farmers used to actually cultivate in between the rows of crop to control weeds. That and more farmers plowed as well as did more tillage back in the prime days of farming before spraying became more popular. Back when you had to actually drive the iron around without relying on automation to do everything for you.
