    We had the case 4890 and the case IH 4894. I can still tell you where every lever and switch is to this day, 40 years later. I'm sure most farmers are like that. You spend enough time in something and you'll know it forwards and backwards

    Our first 4WD tractor was a Case 1470. It replaced a Case 930 and was the first 4WD tractor that anyone had in our area. It looked absolutely huge at the time! I was too young to do anything but ride on it with my father, but I put in a lot of hours in the subsequent 2470 and 4490. Then everything on the farm turned green. Sometimes I still miss the ability to crab steer with the back wheels.

      Thank you for sharing. Great 4wd history. The first tractor I ever got to ride in was a Case 2470. It was brand new with a Case 700 7 bottom plow. The closet thing to a Traction King today is the 4 way steer CLAAS Xerion or JCB Fastrac.

    The first "Big" 4 wheel drive tractor on our Northern Illinois farm was a 1970 IH 4156 at a whopping 125 HP, it was also our first tractor with a cab . It was a huge yellow thing with crab steering. The tractor I drove all my young childhood was a IH1206 while it had the same hp as the 4156 (dads tractor because it had a cab) but the weight and the 4wd of the 4156 meant it would pull all the same stuff so much better.

      The official Case combination colors from 1975-1983 were Power White and Power Red. The David Brown coloring definitely moved the company from Desert Tan and Flambeau Red colors used from the 1960’s to 1974. Why they call it red and not orange I am not sure but those are the official paint color names.

      I grew up watching a 4166. Cool tractors. It’s on my filming wish list. They are hard to find still working in the field.

      Muir Hill tried selling some it’s tractors here in the US in the 70’s. Their ads focused on equipping dairy farmers with a tractor that could plow, chop silage and spread manure.

    As a farm kid in the 70s and 80s, we didn't see much "big iron" in my area and still don't. There was one family that had a fleet of 4 or 5 of those long nose Internationals (can't remember the model #) but they ran several thousand acres of mostly Heinz tomatoes. They still have a couple of them in their fields. These days, they're mostly a produce operation. As for my favorite in the video, even though I don't farm, I still bleed Persian Orange! Honestly though, I like them all!

    • @bigtractorpower
      @bigtractorpower  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Sounds like the tomato farm used 2+2 tractors from IH. If they had a white cab they were a 3x88 and and if they had a red cab they were a 6x88. These models ranged from 130 to 170 hp. The AC 8550 is a stand out tractor for sure.

      @@bigtractorpower The biggest tractor on our farm was our A-C 7080. We also had a D-17 diesel which got a lot of use. Even though I don't farm myself, I kept track of both of them by serial numbers through various sales over the years. Sentimental reasons made me want them and I've actually managed to buy them both back. The restoration of the D-17 was finished last weekend when my oldest daughter laid on the paint (with just a touch of metal flake to fancy her up a bit)! The 7080 is up for restoration next. While I have absolutely no use for the 7080, I have a big shop and just like having her around. Since we have a large food plot and about 20 acres of hay, the D-17 will be put to use working on that stuff as well as parade duty. The 7080 will see show and parade duty only.
