This was pretty much my 1st gaming PC a few years back. Kind of surprised that it's still totally usable 6 years later.
I started with almost the same build. Wild to see it's still relevant.
people think that once the next gen hardware comes out that is makes there current system useless. its kinda like phone. people want the new one every year. even though the current one they have does everything they need with no issue. people should hang on to there tech for 3-4 years before upgrading. the only time it should be fully replaced is if the system can no longer process the programs you need
As my first ever PC I managed to strike a deal with an i5 4th gen, GTX 750 Ti, 16 gigs DDR3 and 1 Tb HDD for 100 bucks :D
Great deal, swap out the hdd for an ssd and you've got a nice upgradeable rig
@ well I wrote my sentence a little wrong but I had gotten this build like 2 years ago, now I’m rocking a 5700X3D with RX 7800 XT :)
That is awesome upgrade, with a noticeable difference in performance@@ileapsy2071
Love to see consistent techbymatt uploads! Hope you are well my man
Good to know I bought a good deal on a secondhand pc for $200 with almost the same build, only difference is that it has 1050ti.
this is a great budget machine. I've been doing "what if" builds a lot lately and this is exactly the type of thing that I like to see, capable on a budget. I spec'd a system out very similar to this one and your performance is about what I guessed it would have had. Nice job
Thank you Matt, this will be a great build for my kids to get into PC. Time to start looking for those parts before summer birthday.
This build will last only 6 months; come on pay more at least 600$ and get a better pc
looks like you copy-pasted the description timestamps from the wrong file - the video's timestamps are for when you tore down a pc and installed ubuntu on it to turn it into a minecraft server lol
thought it was weird using ubunto for gaming with an NVidia card 🤣. i was like is he gonna VM windows??
Lol he getting lazy
Bro I analyzed the fucking video to find out why he decided to install Ubuntu Server.
Probably a description of what he stole from another TH-camr
@@Atkafası-31 my dude it is literally the timestamp file from his own previous video lmao
Impressive build for the price. As a PC flipper the 3600/x/xt, paired with either a 1080 or 5600xt equate to a killer build. For a step up the 5600x paired with the 5700xt is an amazing combo as well. I definitely can see AM4 giving us another 5 years of nice budget builds for a good price.
That's almost the first PC I built myself (the CPU was a Ryzen 5 3600XT and the ram was 16 GBs). It's still serving my friend whom I sold it to pretty well.
this is a really good build for the price! well done
Great video man really nice setup. I purchased a $400 rig from my coworker who built it for me 3 years ago. AMD 5 2600, Cooler Master HS and fan, Prime B450MA-II, 16GB 2400 CL16, SP 1TB NVME, EVGA RTX 3060 XC, Gigabyte AORUS Wi-Fi 6e, Corsair HX750 80-Gold, TmATX hermaltake Versa H17 case and three 120 mm fans. Upgrading to Ryzen 7 5700X3D, 32GB and trying to find another GPU.
King of budget builder ❤
This is awesome Matt! What really sucks is now we have these Tarrifs and USPS problems with products originating from China, kind of kills all these cheap PC's from AliExpress unfortunately..
This is exact PC specs I'm using rn. CS2, Valorant, PUBG, and Fortnite is nothing (Ofc 1080p with Optimize settings) it can easily utilize 144hz monitor
Another awesome build from The Goat. Keep up the amazing work brother!
for those who don't need nvidia badge, the 1660 super currently on ebay go for around $130 with shipping, pre tax, you could do slightly better with patience, but all the prices I list are the "right this second" price, not "well, one time I saw it as low as XYZ". for almost the same performance you could get a 5500xt or 6500xt for $90 and even buy a slightly cheaper CPU to shoot under that $300 mark. For around 1660 super price, the 5600xt is a good perf boost. If you find you have extra to spend, yes the 3600 could support a heavier card, but the price/perf ratio gets a bit unbalanced after that, so storage would be the best recommendation, but if you don't want to go that route, a Ryzen 3600 pushes cards in the $200+ range pretty easily. I have a 6800xt paired with a R3600 with 4X8 GB RAM and I'm not missing much out of my GPU but maybe the top 10% on some games its underutilized, nothing I need to run out CPU shopping over until I'm ready to pull the trigger on a DDR5 platform. A few years ago, I booted up my old R2600 (currently $35 used) and RX 580 8GB ($60 used) and tried it on all my games. Yeah, Cyberpunk was pretty underwhelming, but I'm pretty spoiled on my current rig, but most games in the last 5 years or so were just fine at 1080p mid/low settings. It was fun enough that, if it was all I had, I'd be fine. The main reason I'd get the 1TB drive is that even a modern SSD runs a lot faster when not full, so calculate your storage responsibly with a 10-20% empty space margin.
Rx 580 = gtx 1660 = rtx 3050 = rx 6500xt
Come on jus buy an Intel b580 for 230$ and a Ryzen 7 5700x3d AliExpress for 130$ u have a PC for like 500/550 $ but really more valuable for time
certainly cant hate on a low budget PC that doesnt totally suck, performs decently in most games and has an upgrade path for future upgrades 👍🏻
My first PC was a Ryzen 2600x system using an asrock b450 pro4 motherboard, 16gb of 3200mhz ram, and a 1650 super...the motherboard went, but luckily it went right around the time my friend upgraded his system, so i got a sweet deal swapping my 1650 super, ram sticks, and 2600x (plus a small amount of cash) for his MSI motherboard, a 1660 super, a 2700x, and 32gb of the same speed ram. It wasnt the hugest jump in performance, but it was enough to allow me to play newer games more effectively at 1080p, so it was definitely a sweet deal, and im still chugging along with the PC to this day, and even better my friend ended up using the parts i traded him to help his cousin build her first PC, so it was a win-win all around.
Apart from the other components, I also have the EVGA GTX 1660Super and run all my games perfectly at 1080p.. looking at upgrading but I won't see a difference until the games I will play in the future will need more juice.. but for now the GTX 1660Super is a solid GPU.
Spectacular! Aliexpress is definitely underutilized here in the USA, as a lot of people are distrustful of it, but once you realize you've the same chance of being scammed there as on Amazon, it really becomes a value bin!
In case you needed some for minecraft, if you use performance enhancing mods (built in shaders) my i3 1215u (no gpu, 32gb ddr4) got a solid 60 fps on low with medium shadows in complimentary unbound.
IMO there's a easy way to start your next PC build:
1. Check GPU prices new/used.
2. Check the prices of phased out office PCs and what one would cost combined with a modern low-power GPU.
3. Check the prices / performance of used PC builds and how they stack up in comparsion.
Usually, it's cheaper to start with some sort of hardware bundled together or buy a whole PC and change the GPU.
Another consideration should be weither or not a upgrade makes a significant difference for your use case.
For example, I think the 1060 6GB (or 8GB 480/580) is still "good enough" for most stuff and going to a 1660 Super (6GB) doesn't really make a whole lot of difference on weither or not something is playable.
Thank you tech by Matt for this video very informative
pretty good, one thing I would have done different is spent a little more on a 2060, which can be found at times for around 120
150
@@GorryX3 you can find them for less
Instructions unclear. I bought all the parts, built the PC, and installed Ubuntu Server. Not sure where to go from there.
I just want to practice building before going to expensive parts
really good video!
Biggest thing I would change is to go with a used asrock, asus, gigabyte, or msi mobo.
If there's any more room in the budget, I would go with 2x16gb of ram. It's $43 vs $26 right now for that same silicon power kit.
Also an inexpensive thermalright cooler like the Assassin X is only $18.
The main thing is the mobo though
been watching you since like 2020
2019 here. he made a video how to build a 500$ gaming pc and that was the first pc video i ever watched. got sucked right into this world
Been watching since like the stone age. Built a PC with rocks and twigs
I bet the mounting holes for the cooler are the old AM3 spec and not the AM4 spec... Could also be an LGA 2011 spec based on looking at it
I've seen Ryzen 5500 about the same price and I usually go with an AMD GPU if I was going to do a cheaper route, but I do have the 1660 super with an e5-2666 v3 and it is a very good card/ setup .
Machinist motherboards don’t come with a CMOS battery because of shipping restrictions. You’ll probably wan’t one as you’ll run into a few problems like the time going out of sync when in shutdown
It would be better to throw few bucks more and get a better cooler than a stock amd cooler especially if you use ryzen 3000 series of cpu's . TechYesCity made a video about the potential degredation of the 3600 and he suggested to get a better cooler and not use the stock cooler . Phazer Tech has a video too and he found out that the memory controller of the cpu degraded and not so much the cpu itself . Some maybe fine with their cpu's and their stock coolers but it's good to have one piece in mind .
If I choose to buy graphics card and CPU from eBay/Ali i'd rather buy used mobo as well, but from A-brand. It can cost may be +20-30$, but my confidence in that build will be much higher.
P.S. I don't buy MoBos wo vrm heatsink even from A-brands. You mentioned possible upgrade to X3D CPU, it can be hard for these mobo's vrm to handle.
wow my pc is basically equal to these specs! a little better in some areas a little worse in others but overall it's probably equal to this build and i didn't even realise lmao
When buying a motherboard from Aliexpress, while the cheap Chinese boards are fine, they have some weird issues, I would have purchased a used board from Ali from a major brand, I purchased both a Kllisre b450 board in a kit with a 5600 and 16 gigs of DDR, got a great deal but had some really odd issues no drivers or firmware updates and I could not install windows 11 until I installed the AMD package drivers in windows 10. I had no issues with the gigabyte GA-450M DS3H that cost a little more.
Great pc and vid
I love these videos please do more and I challenge you to build a one for 80$
thats almost impossible unless if you find a free dell optiplex from a large business throwing out their old pcs and spending the $80 on the gpu
dumb
Yeah I guess it's kinda dumb😅 you have a point but I think if he can do a 100$ build it might be possible
Did you mean $800?
This guy said build a pc for $80 LMAO
Good video! Thanks!
Matt you're a savage!!!
Great vid, subbed
Can you test need for speed heat?
I built a new build with this cpu last year have it paired with an evga rtx 2060 6gb stil does the job.
Hey, sorry to bother you. I was wondering under which category do you upload your videos? Me and my kid build pcs nd he want to pots them on TH-cam, just trying to find out as much info as we can. Thanks!!! Awesome content btw.
I am pretty sure the High preset of CP2077 uses AUTO scaling / FSR by default. So when you say you tested it, do you mean with that or that you disabled resolution scaling/FSR?
The GPU appears to be throttled at several games, I am assume from the CPU.
If you gave up at future upgrading plan, you can buy an old Intel i7 kit and save the money for a better PSU and RX 5700 XT. That will give you much more performance in games, and this is what you want right now. Also you can find a case with $10 to $20. Make sure it has at least one in fan and one out fan.
def great value but i do think its worth it to just take that step to the 5700xt
why wouldnt you get the rx 580 8gb ? same price.... or cheaper
My first pc has a ryzen 5600 and an rx 5700 xt
what do you use to get wifi on motherboards with ought wifi
Wait, I've flipped several PCs with that motherboard, what isn't standard about the backplate?
Would this pc be better with intel arc b580 or would the cpu bottleneck?
i have the exact same ram
imo the Radeon RX 580 cant be beat for a low budget build
Are silicon power PC parts reliable? I have been seeing this brand used by TH-cam channel who do PC builds?
Heck even my $99 pc with xeon 2650v4 x99 and rx580 2048sp is playing fine with LSFG
R5 3600 and rx6600 would be perfect
i am suprised you didn't go with something like a 1070
Link for mobo from AliExpress?
i think you used the server pc timestamps on accident
for $350, it has better performance than my computer which was way more expensive
I wish you would record those videos in 60fps, when looking at benchmark clips, they look lame on 30fps.
Parts are ?
GTX 1660s plays video games up to 2024. 2025 is the starting era of mandatory ray tracing.
Bro just built my current pc
Whats the best budget gpu to get rn
You need to state your max budget for easier recommendation
@ulfricstormcloak7142 500
Some black vinyl wrap on the PSU always tidy’s a build up but some great price to performance.
This one hundred percent very repeatable but I’d recommend to anyone looking to build their own budget pc, just to wait and snipe some deals like he said the 5700xt or you can keep your eyes pealed for Rtx 2060 and 2060 supers I got mine for 100 bucks and it’s perfect.
Greate Vid once again
Was looking into getting that board for my 5600x, but the VRMs scared me off.
Edit: A2/B2 died on my Asrock B550 Pro Gaming.
yup..... hes not wrong here for ultra budget but i always tell gamers to put your cash into the mobo FIRST.
1. much better sound
2. will have type c port, and way more usb 2/3 and prob have usb 3.2
3. MUCH better vrm cooling as you stated
4. 4 ram slots
5. Q flash
6. will have better wifi/bluetooth
7. 2-4 nvme slots, not 1
8. way more pcie
9. way better bios
there are other factors but that is why you never skip out on the mobo.... you can always upgrade EVERYTHING later
these cheap mobos including in the video you can only choose 1 of those upgrades above, like type c expansion, but no matter what you can NOT choose better cooling, q flash, 4 ram slots, etc
new gamers always pick/invest into the mobo first... brand new spend 100, used you can find good ones for 75
@@Kevin-vh6nnyea you do have a bunch of solid points for putting little more money into that a build, but that machinist b450 and ryzen 3600 on aliexpress can be bought for around 85-90$ with coupons after taxes, that's price of new better motherboards, the 6 core ryzens don't rly stress the vrms.
So for a very limited budget they are still a great buy if it fits your use case.
Not to discount your points, very valid ones. Just looking at a 350$ build so it fits this perfectly.
But yes if it is in the budget. There are some nice Chinese ones even with better vrm heatsinks and pcie for under 70$ which if you got the extra 20-30$ to spend, Def decent idea
Instead of the 1660 super, I would've gone for the RX Vega 56. It can be had for the same price, is a bit more powerful and has 8gb of vram
Didn't AMD stop releasing new drivers for the Vega? It doesn't sound like a smart move to get one if they did. At least not for new games or for games as service.
Would you spend money over this instead of a ps5? (i just wanna know which one i can get for better value.)
Yes absolutly. RX6600 ~ 150$ + R5 3600 ~ 50$ + 16GB RAM ~ 30$ + case/psu/blower/extras ~ 100$…
I would never skimp on the psu. imho
It's 80+ gold bro
@Ramble1234 it's 80 gold used
wouldn't it be better to get amd to run linux to squeeze any extra performance out of the build? Just a suggestion, correct me if im wrong(i use arch btw)
No lol
@@Ramble1234 why?
i ran shaders on a 1650 and ryzen 3 4100 so that pc is more then powerful enough for shaders on minecraft
I'm planning on upgrading my PSU and GPU in a few months. My CPU is an i5 8600 and my GPU is a GTX 1070. Question. Would an RTX 3060 be compatible with the i5 8600? I mean, it might run on Helldivers 2 and Dragon Age: the Veilguard, right? Also, I'm planning on switching from a 450w PSU to a 500w or 550w one. As well as getting a 4TB HDD. What are your thoughts on that?
Should be fine. Less of a bottleneck if you play at 1440p (if possible)
I would definitely upgrade the motherboard and CPU in the future though
Why not a used xeon and a used x99 motherboard. You can get 12 or 18 cores for pretty cheap.
If you're able to afford am4, you're better off with it in the long run.
rx 5700 non xt is pretty much the same price, 2gb more vram, and is slightly faster. also a 1st gen ryzen 5 can be had for half the price you paid for the 3rd gen. use that money to get a actual name brand mobo and overclock to make up the difference.
The problem is The encoder is sucks if u planning to stream on it but still its a good gpu
Legend
Its a great PC for that budget, but there is a lot of screen tearing
I'm waiting for the ubuntu first boot lol
GTX card in the big 25. (i use a 970)
This should note the failure rate of those ssds
What failure rate? I've had 4 of their ssds in my PC for over a year and haven't encountered any issues
@ you should realise that still says nothing if the failure rate which is amongst the highest of all ssd manufacturers. There is a reason why they are so cheap.
Check your SMART values and you’ll likely see it is degrading faster than an equivalent drive from another manufacturer.
Is this the content we get now, Because the 5090 was sold out?
512GB is not enough when you play more than 8 games nowadays if you include movies in the storage.
Right now building a Good used "potato pc", prices for things have dropped , you can build a good used pc for under 400$ , something with 6-8gb gpu, 16-32gb ram , 1tb nvme
Great, very nice, but I forgot something. I don't have $350🙂
Great video. Please test marvel rivals on low settings with frame generarion off.
I would legit go with the 5600G or 5700G, and just use the integrated graphics, and then save up for a graphics card
aliexpress you say?
Wrong timestamps man
For the gpu I would have went for the RX 580 8GB model for 15$ more
But the 1660 super 6gb is a little faster than the rx 580 8gb
No.

No. But if you want to upgrade but stay at the 65w power limit get a 5700x. Or if the power is not an issue just go all out on a 3d chip.
@JTBivens thanks. My only option is 3600 for now. So i guess ill hold on to the 3500. 🫡

At this price point why not just invest in a 5600g and buy a gpu later? You can use the extra 20 or so dollars leftover on 32gb of ram.
if you are only a fortnite player
32GB of ram for a cpu with integrated graphics is criminal.

This is not what you should do
Nah
i hate 3600 ryzen, it always runs so hot
The gtx in this video is pretty overpriced for its offerings, a rx 580 would of fit better, just the truth at this price, the rx 580 gives 8gbs of vram, any nvidia card at the 50-70 usd price range gives 4-6
