  • The Canucks continue to take their turns making seasoning opening media appearances and this time it's Elias Pettersson's turn! Matt and Blake listen in on EP40's presser and talk about the injury possibilities, linemate combinations and overall season prognistications for the Canucks star. Canucksarmy's David Quadrelli joins the guys as Group B hit the ice at camp in Penticton and gives his impressions on camp so far, including: the words and actions of Thatcher Demko, the favourable slotting of Jonathan Lekkerimäki and Aatu Räty so far, and what he thinks of Pettersson's opening remarks. Rinkwide's Jeff Paterson was checking in on the morning sessions and updates the guys on Teddy Blueger's return, Tocchet's tinkering, and Arturs Silovs' readiness to take on a big role to start the season without Demko. All that, plus a look ahead to the weekend Whitecaps/Galaxy match, plus the Seahawks going for 3-0!

Matt has been working hard for years now to drive a wedge between Vancouver fans and Pettersson. I like the commitment even after a max contract extension.

Last year, JR hit the nail on the head. Everything went right... up until it didn't. This year the adversity starts early. No Daks, no Demmer, no Blueger, no DeSmith, 6 or 7 new guys, some changes in coaching... I don't expect the same results or the same start from Vancouver. I do expect us breaking 100 points, making the playoffs, and getting past the first series, though. 🤞

Listening to Matt and Blake speculate about two injuries we/they know virtually nothing about is wild stuff. As is Matt’s speculation of Petersson getting traded this year. There is absolutely no chance he gets traded this year. Like none. Zero.

I can't see any trade happening, especially this season, but you can never say never as for the following seasons.
Obviously he'd have to play close to his potential and salary or nobody would want him but knowing Peteys determination and desire to be a great player and seeing him when he was at his best I'm thinking he gets back to his past best level and he surpasses that as he gets bigger faster and stronger.

@GordonSmith-mx6jv well even with NMC trades happen if the team has run out of patience and both player and management think it's time for a new start.
Petey is a different personality so I think anyone could see him getting tired of the high expectations and scrutiny in a Canadian market besides you apparently.

I really can't put into words how excited I am for this season because I truly believe this season will tell us who we really are as a team because sure last year was a great season in terms of what we expected of the team, so it easily could be considered a one off rather than what the Canucks are if you think about it. So if we are able to continue to play at the level as we did last season and even surpass and achieve more this season than I think it will cement them as a cup contending great team in everybodys mind. So let's go Canucks!

I completely agree 👍 The Canucks should improve again just because of young stars are still nowhere near their full potential, they added more speed which they were lacking and their PK should be the best we've ever seen as the players added have some great PK stats.
They'll definitely be fighting with the Coilers for 1st place and the health of Demko, how good Silovs or our other possible goalies fill in and back him up play and the health of the rest of the team will determine where they finish in the top 3.

I like the offensive potential of Sasson or Raty way more than Aman. Aman just doesn’t have much offensively.

I've really liked Sasson from the 1st few times he played because you could see the decent mix of speed, size and skill he had and I remember telling someone that Sasson will definitely be a Vancouver Canuck one day you can see he has what it takes in every way including mentally.
I could see him becoming a Tocchet favorite doing everything well and even becoming a playoff style performer too.

Take away most teams best forward and defenseman who are both mvp's of the team most teams would be in the same boat and some worse.
In the salary cap world all you can hope for is depth and the Canucks have as much as they could.

33:31 it wasn't to elimate the excuse for pettersson it's what was required to be a contending team. Mikeyev Lafferty and Suter shouldn't be in the top 6 if Canucks are going to be a contender. And don't get me wrong I think Suter was fine on millers wing but he needs to be the 3c with Garland/Joshua
