Any Fender Jazz is probably the Most Versatile bass you can find!
It has Bite,Punch,Clarity like no other bass, and is easy to play!
It fits in with all other tone requirements too!

As much as I love Eric Avery I certainly have to acknowledge Chris’ contribution to Jane’s Addiction over the years

Well, when you have a bass generally you play it. It's not that expensive, it looks good and it's a Fender Jazz, so it's versatile and you'll probably never get turned away from a gig with it. Sure, it's flashy, but it's not like you're turning up with a 6-string active custom shop Warwick which has 3 9-volt batteries and 4 pickups.

Although I tend to like more "offset" Fenders , I think the Jazz Bass is just the best design Fender has ever made (in the bass category) , with the Jag bass coming close in 2nd place.

OK the J-Bass was Leo Fender's design, released in 1960; but Leo Fender sold Fender Music to CBS in 1964. Leo went on to spend the 1970s as president of Muic Man and went on to create G&L guitars with his old friend George Fullerton in 1979. So yes, Leo did design the original and it's nice to see him still given full credit for that; but bear in mind that an instrument built by Fender Music today is almost 50 years of production and development away from the original.
