OK so now I know why we have had 364 days of beautiful sunshine here in New Mexico and TODAY it feels like the NORTH COAST OF THE UK ! Howling wind, more rain(thank you Scott, we did need it really) in 2 hours than we have had in a year, and the 72 degree temperature has plummeted to 40 degrees. It's amazing the power bass players wield! :)

Better than Gaffa/Duck Tape is a case with a so called "TSA Lock". The security (and only the security) can open it with a special Key. American Standard Fender basses come with great TSA-LockCases and I think SKB sell them as well.

When I used to fly with my gig bag and guitar, I would request a seat in the rear of the plane so you would board first. That way, you'd have all the overhead space to find a place. If you sit near the front, you'll board last, and all the overheads will be full. Never had a problem!
I always take my bass on board. Fits fine on a shelf in all planes. In a soft case of course.
I really liked the music in the intro!!

I had the same problem when my bass was stuck somewhere in the world (between US and UK just like yourself). The case was pretty much damaged but the bass was all right fortunately. Hope yours is all right. Cheers man!

How much do you have to loosen the strings? whole tone is enough?
Last time I flew with my bass , I bought it a ticket to be able to have it with me , was charged half price ,had it strapped into the seat next to me ( Ibanez Roadster with hard case) only way I'd ever do it ,sure I was stopped and searched every time I had to change plane but it was worth it , tried the luggage hold before and it was raped ,case was cut gouged scraped ,looked like it had been thrown around and everything inside was gone ,all my extra picks ,my strap my audio cord goneski NEVER again .

I've had stuff being stolen by airport personell in the past. So I'm kinda scared about letting them take care of my beloved one... Any tips/solutions/soothing speaches?

It's a $100 to check a bass in but there's a way to get it for free.
Walking around barefoot on the airplane is disgusting. Those floors are filthy to begin with.
