- Retro-bit have listened to their customers and released a wireless version of their popular Tribute 64 controller! Besides being wireless, it features a few other changes that makes it stand out from its predecessor. Buuuut is it worth getting?
I reviewed the original a couple of years back and I've been using it ever since. Has this updated one dethroned it?

What N64 game would you play first if you picked up one of these?
Stay safe ❤
It's either Super Smash Bros. or Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 3.
goldeneye, because it separates the worthy from the rest as far as thumbsticks are concerned..
I tried to play F-Zero X on my Android phone because the manual said that the controller is compatible with Android, but for some reason I couldn’t get the controller and phone to pair. So I can’t even map the controls.
having trouble connecting mine any tips
Great video mate, really enjoyed it. My old N64 controllers are starting to show their age so I may be tempted to pick one of these up.
Tenacious D reference, love it
The only true downside of this controller is that it's not available anywhere... I love it so much. Wish I could buy more.
Never thought about Micro USB / USB-C despite using this controller frequently. Great review of a good controller. Thank you!
(Roadsters.... currently)
I picked up the atomic purple one, and paired it successfully with my Switch, but I had to turn off the vibration setting, since it would constantly rumble when playing any N64 game on the Switch. Has anyone else had that issue as well? If so, how did you fix it?
I just turned off the rumble settings in the N64 NSO app settings
They have a firmware update from a long while ago that fixes it, if you weren't aware now.
How do you pair the controller to swicth i cant do it how???
I am not bothered about the rumble switch, I rarely use the rumble function anyway (and for games that don't use a Controller Pak it's not a problem). I agree the d-pad could be better, but otherwise it's an excellent controller.
5:44 LOL
The Tenacious D reference was not lost on me. Nice one 😀
Great video. Well done
I wished the receiver had microSD card support and had a feature to backup and restore controller pak saves with a press of a button instead.
I just picked up one on Amazon in atomic purple I can't wait for it to arrive. I think I might emulate with retroarch as I would probably need to open up my Zelda games and change out the batteries if I wanted it going and I'm just too busy for little projects like that right now.
Loved the video, keep it up
For the memory issue, I just hope the make a new receiver or a firmware update like mentioned
Loved that nod too tenacious d
Back in the day when i played games that required a memory pack and also had rumble support, i just put the memory pack into the second controller and voila, i had rumble on my main controller. Maybe that would work with this one too? You could have an original controller on the second(or any) port with the memory pack. I'm thinking of buying one so that i don't wear out my originals.
Hey, i saw you playing Smash Ultimate with this controller and i was wondering if the c-buttons work for tilts and if so, if they do tilts at full speed, as the c-stick on the gc controller does not (shoto main here). Thanks!
Have you used this controller on the Game box usb? I can't seem to get the yellow buttons to assign properly for zelda
GREAT GAD DAMN CONTROLLER. 🅿️ERIOD
My only gripe is inputting the macros for playing N64 on Switch. I want to use all C buttons when playing Zelda OOT, I switch to All-star mod and it messed up my button mapping so I can't use the b button for the sword. I played Mario 64 in All-star mode, Mario wouldn't punch. Really wished the button mapping wasn't a huge pain in the butt. 🤨
Will they work with a homebrewed Wii?
Will this work on Android devices? Say an Nvidia Shield? And so, does the USB dongle have to stay inside the shield?
Could the issue with the switching be resolved by just putting a memory card in a controller port you're not using and keep it on rumble for the controller you are using?
You mean buying two Wireless controllers and use both their N64 dongles while playing with a single controller? One dongle for the memory card and the other for rumble?
@@ultraspinalki11 yup
5:38 JUST CALL IT STARFOX64! ITS CALLED STARFOX64!!!!!!
Do they have a firmware update for the switch issue?
I've seen that there's been at least one firmware update released since the video. I'd like to revisit this to see what it addresses.
Aside from the Receiver issue, the receiver itself is way too big. What an eye sore. Hopefully 8bitdo comes out with a 2.4g N64 wireless controller to accommodate the upcoming Analogue N64 NT this year.
They've had really good collaborations in the past, so I would expect nothing less when the Analogue 3D comes out. I'd bet it'd natively support 8bitdo's N64 controller board swap as well.
I'd play super mario 64 with it
Does anyone know if this controller pairs with Android? If I wanted to use it for emulation on an Android box to be specific!
Is it possible to connect it to a pc with a usb-C and play?
I've not had any luck over USB-C, but it works fine with the included 2.4Ghz adapter.
Mine don't work on console
Same. So p!ssed off
starfox 64 :)
It'll always be Lylat Wars to me 😁
I have both wired and wireless versions, the wireless is way better.
Why is it better? Been looking at buying both of these maybe a wired and a wireless. Is the wired really that bad?
@@TheMcMeow The wireless has an improved joystick vs the wired.
This shitty controller only worked once. No matter how much I try it never worked again.
Ya might've just been unlucky the first time round, like I was. The first one I got had a problem with its rumble so I had it exchanged for another. That's why there are two in the thumbnail 😁
