Whenever he is asked to speak about KANNADA movies , he only speaks about BENGALOORU! KANNADA is not only about BENGALOORU, but whole of KARNATAKA!
Speaking about movies, manirathnam sir is himself a producer. He comes from a well to do family!Hence, he doesn't need anyone's permission or support to make movies in KANNADA! Where there is a will there is a way! Don't pick reasons for manirathram sir! Manirathram, himself said he didn't even know 'kannada film industry' existed before making pallavi anupallavi movie! He was forced to do a low budget movie and was suggested by his friend, producer, to do it in kannada, only because film making is low cost and affordable in Karnataka! He himself admitted that he did that movie just for the heck of it , unwillingly! He didn't even try to learn kannada back then!
First of all .. let's not force someone to learn our language and make movie here. And when they don't let's not make it look like a crime. If they love Kannada and want to make movies - Good luck and love for them. If they can't or don't for whatever - still wish them luck. We have enough good directors and good movies churning out in the industry and we are proud of them. Coming to low budget film making and he was forced to etc.. The point is he still did it ! He still gave us a wonderful movie called Pallavi Anupallavi in Kannada. Let's just be happy with it. That movie I cannot say was done "for the heck of it" that's really a wrong statement. Instead many rowdy movies coming these days and cliched love stories are made for the heck of it. Where there is a will there's a way is a statement for something you can do for yourself on your own, doesn't really hold good for a tedious complex and a huge process such as a movie making which involves a hundred thousand people in it

Let me make it clear, I don't intend to force anybody to learn KANNADA! It is only that one can't accept the fact thatmanirathnam sir speaks KANNADA at home when he doesn't show any respect to our language when in KARNATAKA! Speaking about pallavi anupallavi , yes it is a all time classic ! But, look at its technicians! Not even one kannadiga! Music : Ilayaraja ; cameraman : balumahendra; editor : lenin! Does this show any love towards KANNADA?! I don't think so! Pallavi anupallavi is not the only good movie we have! Kannada film industry is not dependant on any other language! We have rich history, culture , tradition and a lot more talented people! Even most of the actors are tamilians! If you carefully notice the movie, Madikeri is mentioned as 'marcera' by all the characters!
I am pretty sure no Kannadiga would call it or like this! Such small nuances should not be neglected! That too from acclaimed director manirathnam sir! As a real kannadiga, I couldn't accept this! Not many people know British language! The common man should feel connected to the characters and movie! If one knows the language properly, such blunders don't happen!
Coming to my statement where there is a will there is a way, I used this sentence as somebody spoke about freedom of script and filmmaking! Please see the other comments!
As suhasini ma'am herself said, Kannada film industry is the first to give opportunity to new wave movies! One should not give vague reasons like freedom etc! For instance, kannada movie director pawan kumar took the route of crowd funding to make his first venture Lucia. He had the passion of film making and zeal to tell his story, his way! He never complained about freedom as a technician! Infact, nobody has ever!
If you see any interviews of manirathnam sir, he told he decided to make kannada movie, only because his story was rejected by 20 tamil producers! That too, he went on to say he chose kannada as a medium, as cost of movie production was very low here ! (Refer wikipedia)

Anyways, i don't intend to force upon anybody. There was kannada movie industry even before manirathnam sir and wil be forever! KFI is not because of one single person ! For that matter, Kannada movie industry has a lot more talented directors! We are very happy and self sufficient !
By the way, as you spoke about 'rowdy ism' movies, yes i agree! Offlate, some with half baked knowledge and fake directors are spoiling the repute. But, have you seen 'chekka chivantha vaanam' ?! Is the script any better?! Period!
There are many who just forget their struggling days and forget to care about people who helped and believed in them! One should have some ethics and morals!
KANNADA should always be a priority, not an option!
