  • Is it too late to call it “Synclavier Regen 1st Impressions #5”? lol. Anyway, I liked the alarm sound, so I recorded it repeated forever just to play with. Then I added a “kick-drum”. Then the bass drone. And, you know, I discovered it could be a song. Whipped up some quick lyrics, and there it is. It was a super fast recording session. Quick first take on vocals, etc. I’m not sure if I am more influenced by newish Sparks or old Roxy Music (i.e., when Eno was in the band)…
All sounds, except for my voice, are the Synclavier Regen. All are additive/FM sounds. All (obviously) played by hand.
New Mix - just a small bit of slight tweaking makes it less muddy.
    I hope you enjoyed!

I didn't start off going in that direction, but once it started to flow, I had to let my inner Mael brothers out...

Theres a circus atmosphere underneath the alarm. Made me think of the expression not my circus not my monkies but the person isnt quite there yet.

That is the idea in a way. The whole thing is slightly tongue in cheek and the voice of the song is more bewildered by what's going on than frightened, angry or sad.
Do you know the band the Sparks? They've been doing quirky pop since the 70s. This is, in some ways, influenced by them. Look up their latest, The Girl is Crying in Her Latte...

@@trentpmcd I just went out and listened to it and def see the Sparks influence. Was quite surprised to learn that Cate Blanchette was the dancer. I also recently saw her in a very funny spoof on Democracy Now. She's a talented individual.

p.s. I'm guessing you like the group They Might Be Giants?

@@msjadeli I do think Cate's dance in the video is so funny - she is the only person on Earth that could dress and dance so dorky and come out looking so cool. The band has been around since the 70s and actually heavily influenced the 80s look.

I really like them, but discovered them late, so am nto as familiar with their music as I should be. I did get one of their CDs, so that is what I know them for.
