I'm in Virginia and we're fighting right now. Because around 13 or 14 schools did not inform students who were winning academic awards and scholarships weren't told. Because they wanted to treat all students the same. These kids got no recognition and missed huge oppurtunities in the spirit of not giving credit to earned merit.

@@selenaclarke Kids who were winning Academic Awards and Scholarships. Were not told by the schools. For reasons of making other children not feel lesser. They did not tell them. Youngkin and winsom Sears are fighting to hold those schools and schoolboards accountable some how and make sure it quits happening. I don't honestly understand what you mean by elaborate. It's that cut and dry.
@@roninbruh I'm from Appomattox. I don't remember the names of all the schools. But I'm sure it's on Youngkins or Sears page. I know Sears did an interview on it already and they've put out statements. Still fighting issues in Fairfax. Which I don't even get.

Oh my, my, my. Listening to these great intellectuals is so depressing. The world that has been created by the woke and cancel culture is enough to make one want to find a rock and crawl under. I have been a victim of said culture, and those who perpetrated their abuse are doing well. Where is the justice?

My grandmother started the first school in North Dakota in her kitchen to teach her children how to read the bible. Other farmers heard about this, and began sending their own kids over, along with food, and things to pay for her effort. She later got an award from the governor for that.

I got accepted into an Ivy League school after I got out of the military. I was definitely a diversity hire, but I made peace with it. I went to an orientation group meeting and I knew I was in the wrong place when I was cursed for being white. I wasn’t as well versed on the societal issues back then. It just seemed like the biggest pissing content to see who was the most unique or oppressed. If only they could see what went on in the Middle East back then. What happened to my buddies.
However, I’m glad I went with my gut. I decided that I did not belong there. I went to a smaller college in my hometown.
I thought that I was going to have the privilege and honor of studying with the greatest minds in the world, but it felt like I was trying to be cudgeled into thinking that since I was white, I was wrong. I can’t get behind that.

I agree that thanking these ex military is unnecessary It is just a job. Seems like people are just mimicking what they hear others saying. It seems kind of phony to make such a big deal out of military service. We all hear about the situations of the large numbers of vets who are denied veterans benefits and have to struggle thru red tape for years to get what they are entitled to. This experience must let them know that they are NOT appreciated or even worthy of just compensation.

Amazing conversation. ~15y ago I started telling all three of my kids that I would pay for their undergrad educations at any public institution they could get into, no strings, and then I would pay for a graduate degree but only from one institution - Harvard. I'm in the financial services industry, and I've seen over and over what a Harvard degree means, and the doors it opens.
About 2 years ago my sentiment began to change, and now I've done a full 180. A Harvard degree has lost all of its luster and power. Now when I see "graduated from Harvard", I have to look and see "when". Because if it was after about 2018... it's a vacuous piece of paper. What a loss, for all of us.

Respectfully, you are part of the problem. Your kids and the childhood friends and classmates they grew up with might be talented. No guarantee they can get into Harvard graduate school even if academically and intellectually qualified. Have you ever considered fighting back against the Ivy League monopoly? To some extent, the Ivy League monopoly is a monopoly on the entry level in certain careers and with certain employers.
It is difficult to argue the vast generalities which seem to govern the lifetime arcs of huge swaths of people. When you reduce it to the simplicity of the entry level and maybe advancement to the next level, now you can have a coherent debate.

I've listened to this interview 3 times now. Victor Hanson is an absolute treat. Together with JP? An irresistible combination.
I find it extremely rude that Peterson interrupts Victor every time. Peterson goes on for minutes at a time setting up and asking a question and then when Victor finally has a chance to answer, Peterson cuts him off and changes the topic. It actually makes for an aggravating discussion.
I’m glad the internet did not break when these two got together. JBP and VDH are two of the top minds in western society. One is psychology/sociology and the other is history/military. Well rounded
As expensive as concerts have become, whatever the cost of Admission to listen to these two talk live for 3 hours would be priceless. We could use a few 1000 more Dr. Hanson's in this world. The first time I ever saw him do a short interview I was a fan.
Yet, we get to watch them for free on TH-cam. Pretty amazing!
First exposure to DVH was on BOOKtv on cspan in a 3 hr interview years ago. My fav ever since. Such a grounded person.
I would also pay to see this discussion in a theater. Hopefully, they would allow the audience to ask questions.
Even better priceless discussions in concerts are already on You Tube. Discussions, and debates with one of the greatest intellects of our time, Christopher Hitchens. Christopher Hitchens if he were still alive would have easily mopped the floor with both Jordon Peterson, and Hanson. Although, since there is little on You Tube between Hitchens, and Hanson, you could conclude that they were in agreement with each other on various issues rather than contrarian, for example WW2.

Former professor of biochemistry here. Left when I had to be more of a lawyer than a teacher or even researcher. My opinion is that our current university system cannot be redeemed and should be destroyed. The degrees conferred (even in my field) no longer certify that a graduating student has the knowledge or skills that the degree says they do. It isn't even close, anymore. Students could get degrees based upon their family's social connection, and could be excused for almost anything if they were well enough connected. Better to learn the skills on the job itself.
That's a shame...biochemistry is so awesome and important!
This explains why I encounter so many people with degrees who can't even spell or punctuate properly. It goes downhill from there.
WOW!, I've felt and seen examples of this for years. In my view, college is doing nothing more than selling their wares. There seems to be no accountability as to outcomes of students. College and trade schools tell their students that they will make big money yet the things such as character are never talked about. College isn't for everyone, I try to hire young HS graduates to go into the simple field of sign type installations, after several years of training, its possible to earn up to $100K or more. They either quit after a year, not willing to go through the apprentice period or because a factory gives them $.25 mor per hour to which they won"t ever advance at. That is, even if you get them to show up for the interview.
Still teaching economics but getting close to the day I walk away. I was at a conference in 2020. One I had attended for two decades. ALL of my colleagues were counting the semesters to "walk away" day. I think the top 10% of the students will be fine. What I see is the bottom 10% has expanded to about 20% or even 25% and the middle students have declined on average. They seem to be happy with mediocre. Maybe that is due to the no child left behind standard in public education? Anyway, it is too complex to fix now. After 30 years in the field, I see no hope for the system. Education has become a commodity where food grade a b and c are mingled in the market place of labor. Currently, I would wager at least a 1/3 of college students would not have been admitted 50 years ago.

When in boarding school in Kenya '52 to '57, where in form 4 and form 6 (high school in the USA), we had the exams sent to the school in sealed packages from Cambridge University, that were opened only to be given to the students at the start of each exam. There was given a time for each subject, and when the bell went, the student had to put his paper into the envelope and sealed, whether he had completed it or not. All these were sent back to Cambridge and checked by examiners who had no clue to who the student was, other than in his name. Certainly a democratic way of verifying correctly.

The reason I do so, is the political left in America has been using the word "Democracy" to support all sorts of backwards, damaging policy, and its important to define words properly, and correct people using them rhetorically. For example, the current political class in the US tells me that they are

As a man who once walked the life as a provisionally licensed clinical psychologist, (I left U of Pitt due to mandatory cultural diversity training in 2018) I would like to say how lucky you all are to have had access to this man's work over the course of your lives. Many of us had to scrounge through scientific literature for years before we could even be a figment of Dr. Peterson's excellence. If you haven't at least completed a Bachelors of any kind with honors, you haven't even scratched the surface of what's its like to be him. I guarantee this man has worked 8-12 hours a day for the better part of his entire life. Not because he is required by law. Because he loves humanity. If you can't see that by now, you are truly one lost soul.
Hard to beleiive that, at one time, he considered himself a staunch socialist.
Give it a rest, eh? 8-12 hours a day is normal for most people. He lives a privileged life.
If you want to stop these universities and colleges to quit this DEI BS, cut out these unlimited student loans. Guarantee they will change their tunes. All these people that want the U.S. to provide free education like Europe, well prospective students have to take a qualification exams. And those exams are much tougher than the SATs. And believe no one is wasting their time with womans', minority, or other garbage degrees.

My husband thought I was nuts, when I told him what patterns I saw developing on universities, about 15 years ago. I never had a chance to go to college, even if I had been interested.
I have to watch this again! Spent so much time taking notes I need a review in case I missed something. Total relevance to what’s happening today. 15,000 administrators to 16000 students at Stanford? Admissions and graduations now synonymous? Let that sink in!

BTW, Elizabeth Warren never got a Harvard appointment based on her heritage. She was very good in her area of law, but much more important, MARRIED a Harvard law professor. So, she made it on terms these two would accept. (Look up "spousal hire.")

Jordan Peterson is NOT a giant of ANY kind. He's a pseudotradcon who's stuck in The era of his youth and has absolutely no real grasp of how the crap that he talks about actually works in the modern age. Don't get me wrong he does have some good points on some pretty interesting topics but overall everything he says is just basically scripted and utterly useless.

This conversation is thrilling. When I was in graduate school in 1971 (pursuing my masters in English literature) I met a very smart and amusing woman from the Ed School who was taking elective classes in the graduate English department. She was getting a teaching degree in memory of her brother, a teacher who had been killed in the Viet Nam war. She told me that her classes in the Ed School were idiotic and everyone got an A or a B. I told my mother who also had an advanced degree and was the daughter of a college president. Mom told me that the Ed School was an intellectual embarrassment even in her day (she was class if 1933). I asked why people don’t know this? Even today with Dr. Jill Biden (who says that without laughing?) the general public seem to be impressed with that degree. It’s a flim flam.

@@denisek4392, I'm an education major and I agree that education is a comparatively easy course of study. However, I never had anything as easy as the examples you mention. All the exams I had to take were essay questions....at least you did have to understand sentence structure, have a decent vocabulary, and have some original ideas. However, this was many years ago when a college education was an actual meaningful thing. With affirmative action, all that changed, and now a college education means nothing unless it's in a STEM field. Affirmative action teachers don't know anything about anything and they teach that same nothing to affirmative action students.

I couldn’t agree more! I have been an adjunct professor and I have been a student advisor and tutor for years. I have seen the degradation of my institution (I am in BC) over the last 15 years to the point where I retired in despair. But I also taught elementary and high school and I saw how diabolical is the curriculum that creates the situation where most students coming from the high schools are unable to pass an entrance exam. Their vocabulary is so appallingly low, that the language part of the standard exam is frequently too low and a second or third attempt is needed, and they are often accepted without a competent score. i could tell so many stories!
It's horrendous, Judy. I'm a teacher myself. I've taught at the grade school and high school level. There are so many teachers who curve their student's test scores and just shuffle them through each grade level, especially in public schools. It's obscene. Nobody wants to be the bad guy when they need to be.
Now the students can question their gender; whether binary or non-binary. They get the greatest sex education in the entire galaxy.
Why bother about vocabulary, geography, science, history? Gender and Sex are the MOST important things for the students to learn.

My jaw was dropping as I listened to Victor Davis Hanson describe what is going on in the American universities and other institutions, including the military. We have very similar problems here in the UK. I think the seeds were sown back in the 1960s, as Dr Peterson was saying, and we have certainly seen a dumbing down of education in the last few decades. So today's youngsters are being taught by people who are themselves poorly educated and lacking in critical thinking. The result is then a dangerous drop in standards across the board. All institutions have been politicised, even healthcare. I wish I could understand the psyche of these radical left wingers with their Marxist divide-and-rule agenda. Why do they hate western civilisation so much ? What do they want to replace it with ?
Are they all mentally ill ? Is it a sort of mass psychosis ? That's what it feels like these days. Thank heavens for voices like those of Dr Peterson and Victor Davis Hanson. Voices of sanity amidst the collective insanity.
I believe they’ve been propagandize (effectively brainwashed) into the ideology, as they are militant about it, can’t calmly or rationally debate or explain it and most are unwilling to hear alternative viewpoints or accept that others see things differently. They tend to lash out, name call and drop friendships with those who disagree. They seem like cultists.

As someone in my eightieth year, I am so thankful to these two men for their clear and concise discussion. As a mother and a grandparent I am feeling informed and enlightened and justified; the latter, because I have been experiencing such a disposition of alienation and guilt. I have been completely unable to address this overwhelming and frightening condition. Perhaps, I was thinking, I have turned into an extraordinarily grumpy old woman. Well, now I don't think so. He's saved a lot of lives. There are people that would be dead without him. There are also 10x/100x or 1000x or even more lives, that he has improved by at least a bit, but for many a lot.
From personal experience, I don't want to measure the depths of my lows, or the depths of my gains because I don't want my account to be cliché.
What I will share is that the knowledge Jordan has announced (most of it wasn't even his, it was found in research) will remove some of the pain in not just your life, but also the people IN your life. Often we love our family more than we love ourselves. You'll be helping them too just by giving his ideas a chance. Just read it. It's ancient wisdom that is beyond agenda.

I owe Thomas Sowell a debt of gratitude. After graduating from college in the late 80s, my worldview was off and my knowledge was weak. Thomas Sowell's books and Rush Limbaugh radio helped round out my education and turn me conservative.
It's like when I sent my kids to school they went into school and came out in actually knowing less then when I sent them. It was the first time I realized there's a huge problem in education.
Same thing with my younger siblings--tested lower on reading and math at the end of the school year than they had at the beginning. The public schools are useless.

So my dad has a PhD in Chemistry and he used to teach at a CA state university and community college as an adjunct... for a decade he tried to get in as a full time lecturer, they wouldn't do it. EVER. Always hiring people of color or women over him. People who on standardized testing their students would FAIL constantly and they literally got angry at him for administering that testing on his students because he was making everyone else look bad due to his students scoring very well. >.>;
We moved up to WA, he became an underpaid adjunct at a private university... and they kept him for 4-5 years before booting him... they booted every adjunct on staff over the years who had a PhD because they didn't want to have to pay them more... never mind they paid 1/4th less than the average salary for the area. It was crazy... screw high standards of teaching, screw high standards for their professors/lecturers (which they were replacing professors over time with masters level adjuncts too).

Harvard, Stanford and more importantly Hillsdale professors is wonderful. TH-cam university is important, thank you. One thing to note Jordan, in your important critique of the college schools of education and their monopoly - those massive state budgets employ an overwhelming number of American voters and their government employee union is one of the most powerful in the world. Politicians on both sides of the political spectrum avoid discussing K-12 education if they value election. The current education system has already been taken by the marxists. And it seems, so have the government institutions. They are so large they monopolize the vote. It’s the best move they ever made. Government employee unions and state educational control. It’s a winning strategy. We have one hell of an uphill battle to save this great experiment.
Victor Davis Hanson has written my favorite books on history. I haven't found an author who has done a better job describing how western philosophy confers an advantage even in military conflicts. His books on Greece and World War Two are excellent.

I am a retired high school teacher who had to teach with all that stuff. I worked so very hard making that crap “work”. How validating to hear that at my gut level what I knew - it was all BS. What made me a better teacher was engaging my students, demonstrating that I cared, insisting they do the damn work and holding them accountable when they didn’t. Those that did - learned. Those that didn’t work didn’t learn. But to have a good evaluation I had to use and demonstrate the “new” lingo. That was the primary factor that made me quit early. Imagine being told you have to change everything you know that works and teach a multiple choice test only on a system that barely functions and the test had to be given at the same time as your colleagues classes and it has to be the same test LESS THAN 24HOURS BEFORE THE FIRST DAY OF CLASSES. Not to mention insulting to any kid who wants to learn and explore with synthesis and creativity.

It's truly a dilemma for parents. I have a daughter who is junior in hs. She is a serious student and has always done so well. I feel she has to go to college. I am so worried about where I'm going to send her.

College just for the experience is indeed a dangerous gamble, when a bright student chooses general education or some non-specific study. To be a computer analyst, engineer, accountant, doctor,...well those will have a built in curriculum without too much room for social extremism,, at least after the freshman year.

As someone who retired from the system about which these two great men were discussing, I can vouch that it is beyond repair. An entirely new alternative must be created once again based on merit and the Woke instructors, administrators, and politicians who support them must be removed from office. God help us.
It’s not beyond repair. But it will take significant time to resolve. Most Employers will stop seeking their graduates as employees. Some will continue to do so however. Those employers will suffer the effects of the market. Even the rich woke elite want a good return on their investment. Look at what is happening to the left wing media outlets presently. VDH has been one of my favourite US historians and speakers for many years. So Jordon and Victor together .... it doesn't get any better ! My family immigrated to the US from Europe in the 1920's so I have some very deep roots and bonds to our southern neighbour. (I'm Canadian) and I always greatly appreciate VDH's wisdom and take on historical, political and our current landscape. I could listen to these two brilliant people for hours.

I thank God for men like you, telling the truth. Let it soak in, 15,000 administrators for 16,000 students. Administrating pays more than teaching these days. And when you dumb down the student body, there is a lot of hand holding going on. Sad, pathetic times we live in.
I'm in my mid-40s and returned to school last year to get a degree. I've been shocked by how easy it is. I'm not kidding when I say most of my middle school assignments were harder. So far all my college tests have been open book/open internet. I feel like I'm wasting a lot of money to learn nothing. In one class, two students freaked out and attempted a mutiny against a professor because they thought the class was too hard (it was self-graded) and whined about it for a solid hour and a half. The professor gave in but those two stopped coming to class and they will still probably get an A. In another class, my poli-sci teacher also repeated "the Senate is bad because of Wyoming" hot take, banned FOX news as a citation source, and students openly voiced their desire to bomb Republican offices and events. The college system is dying and hopefully what replaces it will be better.

My teacher training had little teaching value for me. I learned how to teach subbing and worked diligently to teach the fundamentals so that a 13 year old could master my subject. On the job was my true teacher training!

Lower all of the standards in education! Make room for 'diversity' by any means possible. Sacrifice the quality of education, military, administration of everything. The most important thing is that it all falls down because once everything crumbles down, it will finally be down to *my* level. I wasn't smart enough or good enough to succeed therefore I don't want anyone or anything to be a success. This was absolutely incredible! It felt as if we only scratched about 1% of the surface material that these two could enlighten us on. I truly could listen to them forever. I’m a massive fan of VDH and JP.

I recently went back to university in my late 30's, working on a degree in technical theatre. I'm already established in the industry, but I wanted to get my B.A. I was shocked that critical race theory was deeply embedded in the curriculum of nearly every class I took, aside from mathematics. I don't know how any white male can sit through this without going mad.
They really want to destroy this Republic and that won't happen unless they can destroy the European Diaspora.

I also returned to community college to take some classes now that I'm newly retired - I haven't taken and CRT, but I took an environmental biology class and I really enjoy questioning the professor when it came to the topic of climate change and watching many of my young fellow studenst surprised that I questioned him. I can't wait for my next class - child psychology and this silly gender bender crap to argue against !!
