VDH is absolutely correct: In the long run, appeasement costs far more than deterrence. Historical FACT.
A misconception is that deterrence equates with aggression. They are not the same.

I’m not so sure they do. VDH has a great perspective and historical outlook but the big T has a great team around him. He’s doing a great job considering his background.
Imagine what could be done if the collusion fiasco had not happened and the Dems were the Dems of old.
Based on our current status it’s said that the US has 10 to 20 yrs until collapse. Might want to have some food and ammo stashed. When the urban areas free money dries up things will get very interesting.

@@robertblake1032 It took far more than "luck", for the settlers of this nation to carve a civilization out of a wilderness, sir. Storing up food and weapons is advised by survivalists, for us to prepare for potential disaster before disaster strikes, as you suggest. General Douglas MacArthur so insightfully said "There had never been a single precedent in history where nations subject to moral decay have not passed into political and economic decline. There either has been a spiritual awakening to overcome the moral lapse or a progressive deterioration leading to national disaster."

How perverse is it that the major denominations - so-called Christian denominations in our country - affirm homosexuality, ordain homosexuals, ordain lesbians, marry men to men and women to women? Even the Quakers - and I quote - say, “Homosexuality is no more deplorable than left-handedness.” The Episcopalians have led the parade with a well-known bishop, for the whole of the United States of America, who is a sodomite. A local Methodist church not far from here, the pastor says, “A homosexual is welcome in this congregation and will have all the rights and privileges.” That’s hate speech. If you love that man, you’ll confront his sin and tell him about the gospel so his soul can be saved.

I finally caught Dr Hanson making a mistake: he mentioned US M1 carbine but I know he meant to say M1 Garand rifle.
@53:45 the question asked is that of an appeaser. A.K.A. Coward....fool....or both. VDH gently tries to educate him on the nature of man which most believe is good.....WRONG. Man tends to one degree or another towards evil and that is a fact. VDH told him "humans are no damn good" and that is correct. I agree with everything he says but have little idea of what he’s talking about
Germany had the most advanced weapons in the world during WWII. They had produced the first cruise missiles (Doodle Bugs), the first supersonic missiles (rockets), the fleet of giant submarines that were automated to fire six massive torpedoes in less than half a minute. The largest calibre guns in the world and the first squadron of jet fighters, it took three US or UK tanks to take out a single Panzar. After the war ended thousands of Nazi scientists were taken to America along with all this technology.
The "Gass Station Posing as a Country" defeated this technological superpower. It also put the first satellite in space, the first man in space, built the first space station all while cut off from the rest of the world. To lie/hide about these historical facts benefits only the 1% mega wealthy at the expense of every one else.
When ever you listen to Dr. Hanson Orin person. Bring a dictionary .

The one thing Mr. Hansen left out was that "deterers" will always find a war to fight. The reason doesn't have to be valid they just end up in places like Vietnam or Afghanistan.
Yes, that is unfortunately the downside... but it is as VDH would put it "better then the alternative"

Obviously Dr. Hansen is not a supporter or even likes presidents Carter and Obama but obviously a big supporter of Ronald Reagan, regardless of Reagan’s stupid logic and comments such as trees cause pollution and catsup is a vegetable. Too bad Carter and Obama are not there to have a chance to explain the reasoning behind their policies. Talking about one sided discussion and self righteousness.
Hansen is a knowledgeable historian and a good public speaker. Unfortunately, some in our "youtube" society have elevated his stature, his significance, and his analysis of 21st century politics far above their rightful places in public discourse. He draws conclusions based on personal feelings masked in carefully selected facts, and has knowingly (or unknowlingly) become a shill for the neocons.

Now with the privilege of hindsight we can understand that Dr Hanson was incorrect about his perspective of the future possible president administrations, with Trump being more passive than the Obama administration overall. It seems Dr Hanson is politically partisan and as it pains you're taking with a huge grain of salt.
I dislike his commentary on POTUS's ability to "connect" with the average man. It's called charisma and con artistry. Trump wasnt a Republican, he was a Democrat. Trump appeals to the average man bc he speaks like a mobster from a movie which are very popular amongst these males. Stop acting as if dishonesty is fascinating. Jeez! It's called being duped. Obama won by bigger margins so plzzzz stop blowing smoke. All of these easy points. Deception from a liar cheater and a thief shouldn't be celebrated. Goodness!
At 4:08 Mr Hanson I feel is well aware of the true catalyst that caused Germany to go into czechoslovakia. Chamberlain did the right thing.
