That'd be so capitalist of us.
PLEASE YOU HAVE TO HELP ME GET HOLD OF GABOR - I AM BEGGING YOU, READ MY COMMENTS BELOW - PLEASE HE HAS TO PROTECT ME OR EXPOSE WHAT IS HAPPENING TO ME - SOMETHING. YES I AM SHOUTING I BEG FOR HELP SO MUCH AND NOBODY LISTENING!!! Please I am an artist and abuse victim, please make the police stop terrorising me every few weeks for begging for help I am entitled to and need. Please expose the corruption in our society with how we treat abuse victims and poor people - THIS IS NOT MY CULTURE.
And please expose the hatred bigotry and racism of new immigrants towards disabled poor Kiwi locals. Afrikaan are the worse and NZ govt has let 10,000s of them come here - they are abusers of power in every situation I have dealt with them, next comes English and Americans - South Pasifika, Chinese and Indians ALSO BAD.
Been watching Prof Philip Zimbardo and causes of evil again - this is what has and is happening to me. Those in positions of power have gone insane and evil - that includes my own family when I tell the truth about how badly I am treated. My own brother told me to kill myself if my life was so hard - now his daughters work for an abusive mental health organisation and police. PLEASE I NEED TO SPEAK TO GABOR, IT IS IMPERATIVE!
@@vkantabu That sounds like a form of 'shadow-banning'.

What I love most about Gabor & Yanis getting together is that it is a vivid conversation that illustrates the meaning of the Krishnamurti quote: "It is no measure of health to be well adjusted to a profoundly sick society.”
Also one of my favourite quotes ❤
Bless you for reminding us of spiritual reality 😢😅
Guru Maharaji was also a funny observer / commentator . As Prem Rawat, now, a billionaire altruist ? 😢
So does that mean that the highest functioning members of a sick society(like doctors) are the most objectively messed up? Because I think it does.
❤
Two brilliant and empathetic humans. Thanks for setting this up.
Agreed!
2 great men of our time. I am gratefull for them teaming up.
Please, stop pushing trauma on the people. Trauma is a big $$$$ business these days. Capitalism has sucked it up including Dr. Mate. Give it a rest. Humans are much stronger than trauma can predict.
Empathy can cause terrible suffering.
@@jb9433 It's what makes us truly human.
I love that Raoul just shuts up and let's his fantastic guests speak, unless he has a very pertinent question. Its rare and refreshing
indeed!
You have to watch : dialogue works with Nima.. he allow his guest to talk without interruption 😊
Yes, it’s like he’s in awe of these awesome minds having a conversation.
Yes. He is a great interviewer.
What a host right🎉
Two of the most advanced ethical minds in this world. Gabor and Yanis may disagree upon some religious context but no-one can dispute they share a love of mankind and a cultural appreciation of morality and ethics. Both men should be commended for their dedication to furthering our understanding of faith, hope and sacrifice.
Gabor, Yanis, Raoul, please meet and talk more often. It was a real treat. Fresh air in these suffocating times.
Thank you for mentioning the Congo. King Leopold’s slaughter of 10M - which is barely ever acknowledged.
I think I've only heard about it through Billy Joel's We Didn't Start The Fire song
That number keeps growing. It was a horrible event
Not only the Congolese. Europeans have been indiscriminately murdering African people for centuries....The Congo, Namibia, Kenya, Sudan, Niger,, South Africa.........
Dr. Maté is one of most beautiful human beings, who is magnificently qualified to talk about Trauma, Genocide, antisemitism or Racism in general
it's a shame that stream media doesn't give him much space, Humanity needs learn a lot from him
Exactly !
I agree 100%❤
As a simple construction worker, this conversation washed over me like a wave of insightful, deep understanding.
Thank you.
Why do we not see wise and caring people like this in government ?
Because we are filtered out of GOV. and all fields associated with the regime.
Our "potential" and vital details are recorded at birth after all o.0
Order followers who don't need answers get to play roles as puppets.
The owner of currencies are the true masters of reality now, but they aren't immortal, the power goes from those who know to those who know different(entropy expressed in generations)
So imagine staring building a city and the person paying, died intestate with no instruction to continue in this event. What do the workers do with all the work so far?
Balance has to be planned with aim to keep said balance, yet is routinely met with a force that wishes to continue unbalance
You know very well that historically, certain voices are violently silenc3d if they sound
Such a great comment!❣
My theory is: they’re not interested in a dirty game like politics. There, they can’t fully use those great qualities because there are “too many interests” involved. If you are wise and you actually care, politics will be the last career choice in my opinion. It’s sad but I honestly feel it’s a reality. I totally agree with you that it should be different but I think it will take more than a revolution to change the way things are. By the way I’m a total optimist but I’m not blind to the brokenness in our system(s).
Don't call yrself simple. That's absurd
Gabor and Yanis are two of the wisest people around. This was a great conversation.
There are many wise people. The broblem is: finding "Honest " People.
"China got no military ambitions"
Yanis Varoufakis
That's how "honest" he is.
Two Marxist clowns.
If Gabor and Yanis ever decided to partner on a regular basis in a format like this one, it might just amount to one of the most important partnerships one can imagine.
this conversation is a ray of hope in a distopian world
I am a Catholic survivor, memory came up after moving back to hometown after 35 years. Pedo priest name published in local paper. CPTSD my entire life. I am lucky to be alive. I heal as I call out the corrupt VaticanPedoCult on social media. Very healing.

Then, you get on TH-cam and we have to hear we are "the chosen ones" when we ended up looking for our own isolation because we can't stand being bullied any longer. That's how some people make money on TH-cam by convincing the abused we bring light to the world when we don't even want to stick our noses outside.

And the Filmmaker Raoul Martinez. Brilliant!
Yes! What Gabor says about the lack of agency!!!! That is why DANCE and MUSIC and all the arts are important and why authoritarian states take them away from us. I dance as much as possible with others. It restores my sense of agency and also community.

Thank you, Gabor Maté, for saying what I struggled with when learning world history. I couldn’t understand how genocides had been arranged hierarchically. Not just with the Jewish Holocaust being on top. But also the effect this had on making all the other genocides invisible. Effectively ‘disappearing’ all the non-European people. It’s clear that it was - and with the Gaza genocide - it continues to be - a reflection of the colonial, racist mindset of the Western leaders who still do not consider black and brown lives as equal to others. We are all connected in a precious human family. All lives are equal. When we destroy one human life, we are diminishing and harming all humanity.
Wow, very eloquently spoken - hierarchy of genocide.
I was unaware of the Congolese genocide beforehand.
Let Humanity become everyone's Tribe!!! And let it begin today! Love all three of you!!! Thank you for this wonderful conversation!
Thank you and let us include All our Friends and Relations, the four legeds, the two legeds, the winged ones, the crawlers, the swimmers, the plant kingdom and the mineral kingdom. O mitakyasin

Thank you Dr. Gabor for speaking out about the genocide of the Congolese and the Nama and Herero.
Wow, never expected this collaboration, but it makes so much sense! Two unique people speaking for the good of the humanity. ❤
Gabor's statements about healthy anger - so relevant at all levels personal to political. Thank you for this wonderful weave of economics with psychology. I loved both Gabor's and Yanis' final statements. So clear and true from such different approaches.
A real privilege to listen to two humanitarians discuss and explain so simply the effects individualism ,greed and selfish disregard is having on our world.Thank you for encouraging us to fight back.
Finally, someone acknowledges Jews are one of dozens who have suffered genocide/holocaust. Presently, Gaza, all indigenous populations worldwide continue suffering at the hands of imperialist. Thank you.
Indeed, that's the beauty of nuanced thought that has honesty and clarity. 💜
This is so true. For example, during British coIoniaIism, more Indians were starrved and sIaughtered (over 100 million) than Jrws kiIIed during WW2 (6 million).
In America, Native Americans were systematically strved and kiIIed (yes, I know many diied of disease, but that's besides the point), and children were sent to re-education facilities where they were Christianized and often sexxuaIIy abuused.
During WW2, Romani people were systematically kiIIed and experimented on, en masse, but many usually portray this as an okay thing (or "good" thing according to internet-users and European politicians) since they weren't fair skinned and wealthy like the Ashkenazi Jrws (not the official reason, but the likely one). So their gnoclde is viewed as unimportant.
Then there's Namibia, the Congo, Vietnam, Iraq, it goes on and on...
As Mr Maté said, there is a Eurocentric view regarding who truly suffrs and who does not.
Btw, excuse the many typo's. It's the only way to avoid YoTube's censrship mechanisms.
Don't forget the millions starved to death by Britain while the irish were forced to farm their land and send the food to Britain ..the irish were their slaves for700 years they hated the irish ..this was the great starvjng ...millions were starved to death
Like how Kurds have been suffering under Turkish and East Timorese under Indonesian? These never get talked about
@@TD1237yep, for instance Turkish genocide of Armenians and ongoing genocide of Kurds, which even Palestinians supported.
I'm a long term practicing Zen buddhist. I'm one of three members of Independent Jewish Voices (I am a supporting member) who showed up every day for the Palestinian encampment on our local campus calling for the university to rid itself of $150million in investments in Israeli-used weaponry against Gaza. My encampment work is coextensive with my sitting practice. Two manifestations, no difference. Thank you.
Wow what A way to virtue signal while saying you hate your own people that much at the same time
❤
In a certain sense, each genocide is unique in itself, and Gabor's emphasis that a hierarchy between the crimes must never be created seems extremely important to me, because in the end they are all subject to the same principle of dehumanising a group of people.
Agree!
I would add that when we are able to dehumanize one group of people, then we invite the dehumanization of ANY group of people.
@@mayamichelle6741 Exactly right you are!
@@mayamichelle6741 I'd say that when we dehumanize others, it's because we have already been dehumanized - we are inflicting on them the trauma we've already experienced - because it's buried and repressed in our cells and bodies, and the trauma needs to come out and be healed instead of staying inside us repeating itself over and over again .. and for that to happen, we need "enlightened witnesses" who understand pain & trauma and have the necessary compassion & witnessing to allow us to come to terms with our own truth and the overwhelming pain of our past/feelings...
These are beautiful men. Thank you all. I have hope when I see you and listen.
I don't speak about what's happening in Gaza because everyone I know already knows, and we can see that no one wants to stop. With the US in Vietnam, there was sadism and racism on the part of the US soldiers, but it was not personal. With these two peoples, it is personal, and there is joy in the destruction and humiliation of the other. You cannot stop that. There is no end to the Israeli quest for security, and no end to the Palestinian quest for redress, freedom, and dignity.
This is the most constructive conversation available online. Please post it everywhere possible. Please pass it on
Bravo Raoul for bringing these two brains from two different fields together. But I got to add that Raoul always makes some brilliant points and thoughts as well. 👏

Big fan of Garbor Mate. His contribution to psychology (mental health) is admirable.
I think he's great but I'd question his idea that everything is down to childhood trauma and he seems to downplay adult trauma. Trauma is definitely a big thing though

Goodness. I've never seen Yanis on the verge of tears once, let alone a number of times. We look to him as a constant source of rugged tenacity and jubilant wit in the face of the immovable meat grinder of time. But good of us all to lay on the floor and weep at this. Like anger, we need to express our grief.
Erich Fromm was a great pioneer of the idea of the 'pathology of normalcy' and the link to the notion of alienation in the critique of capitalism
Thank you Dr. Gabor for mentioning African genocides “sanitized” from history.
Beautiful words about music from Yanis! There's a piece by Irish poet John O' Donohue "Belonging to music', that reflects exactly that, some unknown ancient spirituality that music and we all belong to.
Two, well-meaning honest men. Thank you.

In Spain happened the same rupture of social bounds. Our culture used to be more communal and based on mutual support. Nowadays, Spain is an ultra-individualistic society with chronic unemployment and a very harsh competitivity. Also, we are top one in the use of benzodiazepines. That old image of a sunny happy country is a painful hauntology.

Two of the greatest and most honorable and humane individuals of our time
Thankyou, Raoul and EOTS, for this enlightening, profound and moving podcast with Dr Mate and Yanis Varoufakis: it was a privilege to watch them in conversation.
Dr Mate spoke of the 'failures' of history ' - those with the humanity and compassion:
As Samuel Beckett said "Try again. Fail again. Fail better".
Always: in gratitude and solidarity.
I wish this kind of genius discussions were mainstream. Wisdom these beautiful gentlemen bring.. I am speechless. Thank you
"Resistance is manifesting our immune system on a communal level!" WOW. Thank you all.
The loss of community is being exacerbated by the matrix of social media. It is community lived virtually at the extremes of emotion. Most of life should be lived, in calm, matter of fact, human interaction.
Raoul you were brilliant and did not appear out of place among these two intellectual giants
The loss of hope that Yanis describes happening in Greece is exactly what happened to young people in Egypt after 2011 revolution and 2013 coup. Very insightful conversation, thank you.

Thanks for this incredible talk! Daily, I deal with trying to not feel divided & to let my anger turn into compassion but it is sometimes impossible. I love Dr Gabor. He is genuinely empathetic person with so much knowledge and understanding. I have read his books and they are amazing and eye opening.
As-salam alaikum. Thanks a lot for this conversation. I'm disappointed as well that a lot of spiritual teachers don't speak up against injustice war crimes, genocide, and human rights violations. But I heard brave statements of, Christian, Jewish, Muslim and Atheist teachers and thinkers..They are never the majority. Since decades we are on the streets in the case of Palestine, I cannot count all the events from Abdallah Frangis speech in the Technical University in Berlin until this genocide today, not to forget all the other, wars, human rights violations, Syria-ongoing !!!A catastrophe ...millions of refugees in camps, in the case of Myanmar as well...nobody speaks about, since 10 years, Syrians are living in tents...lost generations......
We tried our best, but the majority of people we confronted with the atrocities didn't want to be involved, ignored us and the facts, didn't belive or attacked us.
We are one, no doubt this is a fact. I don't agree that Buddha, Jesus, Marx...etc. are a failure, they showed us ways, possibilities to change us and in the long run societies. Everyone has the possibility to change his/her mind, to learn, it is up to us to put our ego beside, to think in a complex way to practice awareness in every direction. I had Christian, Buddhist, Muslim ( Shia/Sunni) and Socialist/Communist teachers and I learned a lot and have to continue, learning never stops.
We have to move on, never give up to stand up for justice, to speak out, it is our duty.
CARPE DIEM

We must all keep going and not give up.❤️
The political rage storms that fire up can never last unless they ground them selves and begin to truly root and branch out to spread their seeds of inspiration. As in with occupy Wall Street, the Arab spring and other movements begin with rage (like a fire to bring down a toxic structure) but teeter out and even abused and misdirected. Zizek talks about V for vendetta part 2 and I feel part 2 is the grounding of humanity understanding our relationship with this world, to draw inspiration wisdom and guidance from nature itself. Like turning to the great trees once again we begin to learn and rediscover an inherent reality that we are all people of planet earth and through balance and harmony we can again thrive and flourish growing and sharing our fruits naturally and with flow of grace. May we inspire one another to new plains of wonder and possibility.
A very real and gentle conversation about the hard as it is happening now.
In fact we are crazy little ants running around striving to survive despite the total chaos.
What a wonderful exchange between two brilliant individuals! Such a plethora of ideas and concepts, even wisdom. IMO, the most profound is 'We are one.' Humanity is one. All Life is One. We only have this ONLY planet. The rampant, unfettered greed that is capitalism is torturing and killing the air, the water, the soil. To my mind, the only humans that survive will be those who know how to live in small communities that are totally self-sufficient, or almost so. As we come closer and closer to the destruction and chaos that has already begun, it's more important to cultivate and maintain a deep spirituality. Honor our Divine connection to living beings, honor our Earth. The goal now is not to win, but do to our best to be good to ourselves, to those who WILL come after us, to others, to the great All.
I cant express the joy i feel, seeing these two people together event in 2D. I've been following them for quite bit of time but never together. Looking forward to see them meet in person ♥

I experienced a sudden fall from grace, out of 15 months of samadhi, on account of a long covid brain inflammation episode. That was kind of terrifying, in that the thinking mind suddenly switched on. It went from open, clear, vastness to overload - with every waking moment filled with racing, chaotic, incomplete shards of thoughts. I instantly decided to pay the mind no mind and thought that when I was better I would settle down, quieten down and go back into samadhi. But as time moved on and I started to recover from long covid, possibly 9 months later, I didn't want to return to nothingness as Israel had started dropping bombs on the Palestinians and I was now in deep horror, grief cycling and found that the only spirituality that made sense was in
bearing witness to the genocide and using all my facilties to write ✍️ to politicians, media outlets, work the social media channels and volunteer. I had zero inclination to sit with non duality teachers who I knew would not be speaking directly to what is happening in Gaza. Though I have been enjoying two politico-spiriritual ravers, that being Chris Hedges (brilliant writer, journalist and Presbyterian minister) and the wonderful Cornell West (soulful bother, academic and Presidential candidate). And of course, if Noam Chomsky raves on long enough, he always drops into his deep and compassionate heart, that loves all beings. Hes defo a priest figure. I love compassionate activism and activists, like Gabor (and his awesome sons) and Yanis. That being said the journey inyo and out of samadhi has resulted in the apotheosis of all the C- PTSD I'd been embodying since childhood. woo hoo. And Im experiencing anger, the clearest Ive ever known it and oddly enough my immune system doesnt seem to be impacted by the incessant grief cycling. Which is amazing as I live with a number of immune disorders. Anger, Rage, Numbess, Wailing etc.. is 100% felt, expressed and honoured without any resistance, nor residue. I think they call it resilience.

Totally agree about the silence from spiritual leaders with the notable exception of Tara Brach, Cornell West, Rabbi shapiro and some rabbis and Imans whoze names i forget. I think the ordinary people and leading thinkers like you three are the new spiritual leaders because the people who show real courage in the face of this horrific genocide by speaking up and acting in whatever way they can to help are undergoing spiritual transformation i ternally, overcomming their egos and joining in the common cause of building an authenic new humanity.
