      Just don't like how Ollie is acting like he's a Star Citizen content creator... he's just a tourist and hopped in for a time, after a month or so he'll leave for year until the next big content drop for the new star system coming next year (Pyro). He's not a Star Citizen creator, actual SC creators have been doing SC content long before more mainstream, "normie" people took hold of it like JackFrags and LevelCap. They have been doing it for much longer, and will continue to make SC content even when it's not "in with the times"

    When you're decoupled, you can turn the ship in any direction whilst still flying in the same direction. For example, you can maintain the same heading and speed while turning the nose backwards and firing at enemy ships. Use judiciously because you will easily crash into non-moving objects or other ships since you aren't looking in the same direction that you're going.

    • @rhadiem
      @rhadiem 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      You don't need decoupled for this, just apply thrust in the direction you want to go, such as reverse while coupled. People are confusing 6dof and decoupled.

    It would be so cool if they incorporated a Cyberpunk type environment in the cities. They you would be able to take bounties both in sky or ground. Bounties could also run so you could chase on ground or in a ship. Also, you could do detective work to lead you to other planets from doing ground work!

    • @billywashere6965
      @billywashere6965 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      The detective work element is already there for the tracker missions, where y ou have to go the last known positions of wanted individuals and then use scanning to track down their position. For more advanced tracker missions you have to use more advance tactics, but the groundwor (or rather, infrastructure) is certainly there to do what you suggested. With 3.17.2 and the new AI navmesh, I wonder if in future updates they will have chase missions like you suggested where you have to hunt down fleeing AI?

  • @eavdmeer
    @eavdmeer 2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

    I'm sure lots of people will disagree, but I consider decoupled purely for bragging rights. "It's hard, so then it must be better.". AvengerOne, perhaps the best combat pilot in SC flies coupled for good reason. That 'floaty' element you described is entirely correct. You constantly oversteer and understeer, effectively making your turns sloppy and slower. Also, in space, without input, you will fly in a dead straight line, making you super easy to hit! The one true advantage is that you have more freedom to (somewhat) decouple where you fly from where you shoot

    • @festersmith8352
      @festersmith8352 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I also believe that constantly having to counter every movement just puts more wear and tear on your controls.
      And since longevity of controls is a much discussed topic...
      Though I do find decoupled being very useful at times. Flip and burn, is just one fun way

Due to this Star Citizen has become my place to explore and run around until whenever my knees heal (though they are just icing on the cake at this point). I have been trying to find the right setup and was looking into the VKBs you have yourself, your review comes at an interesting time. Thank you for taking the time to review them and give instant direct feedback as it helped me finalize my dream setup. So far I settled on knowing I want a Tobii eye tracker but missed the sale, VKB Gladiators dual w/omni throttles and maybe a control panel like you were using. I would love to hop on the HQ and do some podless-podracing. Recently started flying the 400i as a main because the MSR decided it likes to CHUG hydrogen and costs too much to take out of the hangar. Would love to see some multi-crew content, especially while your learning the sticks de-coupled.

    If you set the speed limiter to be on by default (in the options), you can set max speed up or down with one of your hats. I use the tall hat near the red thumb button. I use hat L-R to increase/decrease max thrust (good for gently landing big ships when centered over the pad), and U-D to increase/decrease max speed. When you lower max speed, your throttle is waaay more gentle for tight maneuvers in a confined space. These two practices allow me to make buttery landings on any size ship, and I even get fancy with spin landings because of the low speed control.

    • @billywashere6965
      @billywashere6965 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    Just got one of these flight sticks and the control panel. Eventually I'll get a second stick, would appreciate an update once you get used to it and whether you think a vertical stick or the throttle stick you have would be better for the off hand.

    On your Left Stick, whats that box that looks connected to it. where your landing gear switch is, im not seeing it on the link to buy. just the joysticks. looks like an awesome accessory to have.

    Ollie got a question you can probably answer if i linked the two sticks with thag side modle would the two controllers hit. I am looking at buying these but was wanting to link them. I know i probably need another connector.

    As a guy who's been running sticks for quite a bit, its odd, but switch your yaw and roll axis. Put your roll on the twist because in space, you need more precision on pointing your nose than you do rolling. You'll find doing ship to ship combat so much easier and less tiring on your wrists if you aren't constantly twisting to bring the nose on target.

    • @festersmith8352
      @festersmith8352 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      This is a common difference among players. I also use twist for yaw.
      It comes from the habit of playing modern aircraft sims that do not have twist sticks in modern aircraft. And yaw axis in modern craft are not near as responsive as a space sim craft.
      While your suggestion makes sense, it becomes very difficult when switching games.
      And there are many who believe and are trained to roll and pitch on target is better.
      I always tells folks go with what is comfortable to you.

    I'm tempted to get a joystick setup, but I'm not sure if I want dual joysticks or a joystick + thruster, or whatever it's called. The Terrapin actually visually uses a Joystick/thruster combo, so if I wanted full immersion of what it's like to pilot that flying turtle then I'd go for that (plus I have flight simulator but hate the keyboard/mouse experience with that), and it's the one and only ship I have pledged so, maybe! That said almost everyone says dual joysticks is the way to go for best control, and I like flying my Talon and Shrike, can just imagine how amazing it would feel to blitz and turn with that setup in that ship. You should try it, the maneuverability might feel pretty great with those joysticks. I wouldn't know of course.

      A Hotas is the way to go if you play other flight sims. It can work very well in SC too. Can always add a stick later if you want.

    Dual sticks all the way. I put thrust on the twist instead since I care less about fine control of thrust than fine control of up/down.

    • @billywashere6965
      @billywashere6965 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hmm, that's a really good idea. I do like the fine thrust for forward/reverse only because landing is still something that can get wonky with even the slightest of twitches.

    I am planning on getting the same setup you used here, won't be soon though since it's a bit pricey. I just don't want to use the t16000 set from TM because I hear it breaks A LOT!
    So better to save up for a setup that actually has good reviews I guess.

    • @RobotSpartan
      @RobotSpartan 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Can confirm the T16k break a lot. Mine lasted about 18 months of light to moderate use before one of the twist axis went bad, then maybe 3 months later the other twist axis died. one stick also developed a slight drift on one of the axis (able to calibrate it out, but still happens with even light pressure applied). They're good as an entry level "i don't know if i'll like using sticks" purchase, but not for anyone who really gets into flight/space sims long term
      Currently have the evo's on order (sadly in EU they're having shipping issues, not VKB fault) so hopefully they last a bit longer. Especially for double the price!

    grab some pedals, i have racing pedals (fanatech) and just have them set as forward and back. quite easy. that means my left joystick can be strafe left right/up down. and the right is pretty much pointing the ship. the only extra thing i would like is a 3rd pedal so i can assign one to space brake. at moment this is a button on left joystick

  • @chrishoppner7875

    You probably want to fly coupled in gravity and decoupled in space, but it's down to preference. It'll be quite nice when we get aerodynamics.

  • @TairnKA
    @TairnKA 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    I see you use the right stick twist for Yaw and nose (forward/backward) for Pitch, but it looks like you couldn't add "Roll" (left/right)?
    On my right stick (T16KM) I have the same setup, but on my left stick (T16KM) I have the strafe forward/backward (thrust), strafe left/right and twist for strafe up/down.
    Unfortunately my ATF request button (bind) works intermittently so I have to use my COMM Override (F11). ;-)
    Like I indicated, I use duel Thrustmaster T16000Ms for flight (right stick for turret, Rover, Cyclone, etc...), mouse and keyboard for on foot and EVA.
    The biggest problem with flying "decoupled" is slipping (role, pitch up, etc..., but the craft continues in original direction until thrust compensates), dangerous especially when coming in for a landing, versus touching down.

    Nice, very nice. For now I only use mouse and keyboard… and this się enought for daily portion of fun after work. OFC I looking for some setup, but probably ended with X56. Most of us thinking now „dont do it” or worse, but hear me out: do really we need best of the best? For regular player I think if simpler that better. Naturally I know that HOSAS will be better than HOTAS, but 6dof can be tricky without training… Ask yourself: how much do You play? 6-8h each day, or only 1-2 ocassionally?
