We are planning a holiday in Tropea in October and also want to go to Sicily. We didn't know that you can also go to Sicily by train. Thank you for this helpful information. We learned more about Italy from your videos
I was wondering did you bring all your luggage and items up to the deck because i read in many reviews that things can be stolen if one's leave things inside the train.
We took turns leaving the train to go up on the ferry deck. We never leave our luggage unattended. Usually there is a spot above your seat but if you need to store it in a compartment near the doors I recommend getting up and being next to it at each stop. Or even better bring a locking cable.
@@theperriadventures The problem is that I always travel alone and if I take this journey from mainland Italy to Sicily, it is necessary for me to carry all the luggage and items up to the deck and back to the train. Very troublesome!!! I will not leave my things unattended because the probability of being lost is very high. Thanks for the reply.
You do not need to leave the train if you don’t want to leave your items behind. But locking your suitcase with a cable to the train and having a combo lock on it can add security if you do leave your suitcase and go up to the deck. If you can travel with a small carry on or backpack you’ll even make it easier for yourself.
@@theperriadventures In fact, there are limitations when I travel solo during the winter for 2 to 3 months. As such, I need to bring thick clothings and some personal stuff. Guess I won't be going up the deck because there are professional thieves cutting the cable securing my luggage. Of course it would be nice witnessing the cruise approaching Sicily with breeze sweeping across my face. It would be devastated losing all the items which is supposed to be a happy holiday. I travelled Italy a couple of times for 2 to 3 months, never been to Sicily and I'm very viligant of my personal belongings because I witnessed people losing things spoiling their vacations. Thanks for the advice.
Very interesting for I didn t know the train went in a boat to cross the sea to join Sicily...Is the crossing taking a lot of time time ? Thank you for your video and a big hello!
Thank you for watching 😊 the Messina Strait crossing takes about 25 minutes but the process of loading/unloading the trains takes an additional hour or so.
Wow - entire train on a ferry! Fantastic.

Fantastic journey. Are you going to buy a house for one Euro whilst in Sicily??
Not a one Euro house but we are certainly thinking about something requiring less work 😉
