LS1 Camaro Head/Cam Build

  • A video showing the progress I made of a motor swap I did on my 99 Camaro Z28. I replaced the high mileage LS1 with a low mileage LS1 from a 2002 Trans Am. While the motor was out of the car it received a basic head and cam package built by me. All of the work was done by me(18 years old) and two of my friends in my garage over the course of 4 days. No lift was used to drop the motor out of the car.
    Update:
    The car was sold in January 2013 to help pay off college loans. Hopefully I'll have something new after I graduate in 2014.

    I will have the same mods, but i have the lt headers UD pulley and 3:73 in the rear hoping for the same rwhp or a bit more. I am subscribing to see your time.

    fyi,for the future,a atv or motorcycle jack works great for an engine swap or drop out in the f-bodys

    heads cam packages really turn these motors into beasts, its amazing the difference from stock to head cam car.

    it would have been cheaper to just get a rebuild kit for the motor along with the head cam package

    WOW. How much do you think labor would have cost on this job? Cause I dont have the tools nor the space nor the know how. You guys did an awesome job.

    nice build. I have an 02 stock. thinking about a heads and cam with an engine rebuild. right now researching labor cost. Do you get any problems with it?

    Is the LS1/LS6 an easy engine to work on? I screwed up my 2002 Z06 last night. (guessing a dropped valve) I have built engines before, but only Ford/Lincoln flathead V8s and V12s. It seems like the LSx platform would be easy, but I haven't done anything more than regular maintenance work on it so far.

    Just one more question. Why did you have to drop the whole front end? The cam installation?

    Hey may be you might be able to give me some advice. Im buying a 2001 Camaro SS with 23,000 miles on it. What would be the first thing you would do to get some more ponys out of it? Im thinking LS6 heads with a cam and LS6 intake? Am I warm?

    So did you detach the struts first then kept the rack and pinion with the engine and then just raised the vehicle over all that? Is it hard? Vincent Spatola

  • @bobbycone2
    @bobbycone2 8 ปีที่แล้ว

    What blew out under the car at the end of that 2nd pull? Shouldn't you have broken it in a bit before running it on the dyno after all those mods?

    why did you have to swap the engine? was it dying? because i could get a pretty good deal on a 98 with 152xxx miles on it. do you think its worth considering? apparently the car is in excellent condition, but ill have to make sure of that myself

    its a 6-speed. Cool. Thanks for the info.
    Did you buy the LS6 heads new or used? And how much did it cost you to buy the heads and cam.
