Loved the video Ali. Here’s my opinion based on my use: I use my iPad for every single work related to University, meaning taking notes, making powerpoints, writing etc. Because it’s light and small, I also have it always with me and use it for skype calls, meeting, slack etc. tasks that you don’t need a computer but also not very nice to do on your small phone. I use my laptop for my YuuTube channel, video editing and social media management company. Things that to be honest, I need a laptop for.
So, in conclusion if you are a university student, you’ll be fine with an iPad, if you do more work, you 100% need a laptop. If you can afford it, make sure to have them both! Haha Keep it up bro!!

One thing you missed, if you’re a student studying business or have any need for excel.
Excel is horrible on iPad, and harder to learn on an mac(most teachers have created excel content from the windows perspective)
Having tried to replace my Mac with an iPad, the biggest issue as a business student. Was the inability to use excel properly. Or at least as easily as those with laptops.
Aaron V yes that true, Excel macros cannot be running in mobiles... still have to use on laptop..

Bought an Ipad Pro + GN5 a month ago for my accounting night classes after seeing your videos .
Probably the best (tech) decision I made in my life.
I noticed the following things sinds I'm working with my Ipad:
- better at note taking, sketching diagrams and processes ;
- better memorising (I'm a "visual learner");
- less tempted to do something else while working on it (because of the more "limited" multi tasking), thus more time effecient + better working/learning;
- I find it more fun to learn on it.

Laughs in PhD student, nah lol. I wish. My iPad is definitely a complimentary advice to my MacBook Pro. I love my iPad tho, it’s amazing, i take notes etc on there but my actually MacBook is better for me. I have statistical software I have to use and then I notice when I am writing research papers I need multiple things up at once and you can’t do it in the same way as an iPad. For me at least, I have like 45 things open at once and I use two or three desktops at a time.

Same here! As a musicologist, my Samsung tablet is a complimentary device and I tend to use both my tab and Macbook Pro when writing research papers.
Stephanie K you should get an iPad. The handoff is amazing. And now with the new update. I can use the iPad as a second monitor off of my MacBook.
Personally,I think that an iMac/PC for heavy work and an iPad for light travel is an ideal setup for me. Currently saving to buy both in the future

I was about to spend my savings and needed this comparison thanks Ali.
I recently replaced my Macbook Pro with an iPad Pro and it has been AMAZING. So much more portable and a joy to use. The only issue i've run into is that Excel for ipad does not allow you to add logarithmic trendlines, nor can you add a trendline equation to your graph in Excel. Other than that, I love my ipad pro as my only machine.
I just got the iPad Pro to replace my laptop for college and I’m loving it, great timing for a video :D
Annoying 101 which Size and storage did you get?
patrick F I got the 11 inch, so it’s not too big to lug around and not too small that I can’t see shit either. I got only 64 GB but since I have iCloud + google drive + my college free one drive, I don’t need much storsge
I am a nursing student and all i need is use powerpoint for homeworks, read some essays and watch netflix etc. not the do complex things so i have two question; 1) is it easy to use word or power point with keyboard?
2) does the screen light turn off when you did not to do anything about 5-6 min (read something on Microsoft word) or can we change the adjustment? Cause I do not want to touch the screen regularly.
And sorry for my english 🤣 cause its not my first language and i hope u can answer my stupid questions 🤣🤣
1) the only problem I have with the keyboard is that you need a proper workspace to use if. The keyboard comes like a cover for the iPad and is attached by magnets so if it’s on your lap or something your iPad will drop, other than that is fine!
2) nope you can read!
I don't know if this information is useful but on the 12.9 inch model the magnets on the back are stronger, so you can use your iPad on your lap

Great video! I work as a teacher teaching 10th grade students and I’ve completely replaced my MacBook with an iPad Pro for day to day use. We have some IT admin apps that just doesn’t work on an iPad, but overall I agree with you. If one is open to adjust some workflows you can absolutely replace your laptop with an iPad Pro.
Great video. I really liked how you emphasized the causal user vs heavier user.
I recently switched from MacBook Pro to iPad Pro and the greatest efficiency killer has been my mindset since I’m so set in my laptop ways of workflow but I’m adjusting and I now keep about the same pace as before

Why tf would one wanna do nursing if you work 70 hours a week and barely make anything? Like I'm 22 and I'm an investment banker. I make 90k a year plus commission. I also work around 90 hours a week. So thats got me confused.

My laptop is about 7 months old. It keeps slowing down etc. sux! I can trust my iPad to not slow down. I use the iPad as a laptop because my Windows 10 Laptop slows down a lot and freezes.
The productivity nerd inside of me just can't replace my laptop with an iPad hehe :-)
I take both my laptop and ipad to uni. But I do a fair bit of circuit design and programming so a laptop is a must. Then again, you can't beat reading books and taking notes on the iPad.

The more I replace my day-to-day use of a laptop with an iPad, I’ve been wishing to get the bigger 12.9” iPad. One great investment has been the Logitech K811, which has quick switch buttons for going between my docked MacBook and my iPad. It makes using both at my desk much more usable. Cheers
Great video! I have been trying to use my iPad Pro (2018) [12.9"] for about 6 months and just decided to go back to using a laption IN ADDITION to that iPad. For me as a professional (fine art landscape) photographer and videographer, the iPad is just not there yet - mainly due to its file system limitations (and the lack of Premiere Pro and Photoshop.) I think it'll be another couple of months (years?) before we're getting there - but I agree with you on other people's needs. My wife has been using her iPad Pro (2018) instead of her laptop pretty much with no ill effect for the last 4-6 months as well. She's fine with that!

Personally for me I own both iPad Pro’s (2017-2018) because as an illustrator and law student it’s ideal, it does the work for uni and when I’m done working I can start doodling. But honestly it’s up to yourself which ever you prefer. Also amazing video as always, listening to you is always so soothing!

I have the 11 inch iPad Pro, a Macbook Pro and an iPhone X. None of them is an all-in-one device on their own, but together they are far superior than anything else I´ve tested. And I think that´s how you should see the iPad. It´s an addition to your computer to maximize productivity. Even though it´s quite expensive, I think it is worth it.

I' m currently working on my master program and I would say iPad it's pretty good BUT it highly depends on your workflow. For my class what I do it's mostly reading pdfs and slides and take notes, I'm using the folio keyboard and the pencil with an iPad Pro(2018). And when I'm back to my dorm room, I write my essay on my laptop with an external keyboard. You could write essays on iPad but that requires tapping the screen a lot, it's better for showcasing your group about the slides or materials.
