Orchid Gardens is our default dim sum here in Vegas. We used to go to another dim sum before the city codes cut out all indoor dining smoking. I'm glad Vegas said, "Enough," with the smoking inside restaurants, but it was already too late. We are Orchid Gardens junkies. Thanks, Dan!
The stuffed rice noodle dish is called "cheung fun" in Chinese. It could be filled with shrimp, beef, chasiu or vegetarian. The baked pineapple bun got its name b/c the top streusal like crust resembles the shell of a pineapple. The traditional type has no filling at all, but nowadays you can get it filled with egg custard like what you had (still no pineapple), ube (purple yam) and other sweet fillings. Some dim sum places also do a savory version with chasiu. It's like the baked chasiu bao but with a streusal topping. In Hong Kong, they serve it plain or cut in half like a sandwich and stuffed with a thick wedge of butter, or with ham and egg.
Dan! It’s the guy you met at Boiling point. Yo, you gotta try my fav dim sum place called Yum Cha if you haven’t been there. Close to the strip. All their popular dishes are good.
You forgot to go across the street from the Rio and try Ping Pang Pong inside the Gold Coast Casino. That place has the best pineapple bun with the salted egg custard filling, which is savory and sweet.
Orchid’s Garden is our go to dimsum place whenever we visit vegas unfortunately they were just on dirty dining. Will definitely try the one in rio and hongkong garden. I also hear good things about ping pang pong. Thanks again Dan for this very informative dimsum food vlog.
Looks so good! You chose the same items I do when I have dim sum. I haven’t tried the rice cake with shrimp yet, but it looks delicious. Your reaction to the pineapple custard bun has convinced me that I need to try that! Lol! I love egg custard tart with a flakey crust. It’s a ‘must’ when I get dim sum.
I like all the dishes but my must have are bean curd skin wrap, ham Sui gok and the pan fried chive dumpling. Ham Sui Gok is fried glutinous rice dumplings with mince pork.
Another make me crave something video, Dan. Thanks! Yummmy! I’m going to Vegas next week so I got some eating to do, LOL. Staying on the dim sum thing, have you tried Tim Ho Wan at The Palms? I was there on opening day, dragons and drums in the casino, and tried them for a quick light lunch. I was blown away but am far from a dim sum expert. I’d love your take on the place. Thanks again for fun informative videos.
@@DanVsWorld my limited try it was amazing. I was there just before the big lock down, Feb of ‘20. I saw a Mike Chen video of him at a dim sum place in Queens, NY where he was eating a bao that had a crispy shell (baked or fried, not sure) and he said it reminded him of a Tim Ho Wan dish. It looked amazing. I need to try it! And those pineapple tarts! Oh my! Correction it was 9/19 when I was there. I found my pictures.
I LOVE dim sum! My favs are the steamed shrimp rice rolls with sweet soy sauce, pan fried turnip cake with hoisin sauce, and sticky rice wrapped in lotus leaf. For dessert, definitely those pineapple buns filled with custard, almond tofu, and mango pudding. Thanks for sharing and for getting everyone hungry lol.
Depends what you’re looking for, KJ is close to strip in a casino for convenience , I like the second place a lot, the third everything was super fresh and hot
Awesome! Thank you. We’ll try these out. Our fave dim sum place has been “New Asian BBQ” on The north side of Spring Mountain just west of Decatur. Give it a try!
I’ve never seen you react that way to a food item before…definitely sold me with the Pineapple Buns! I’m going next week…can’t wait to try it!🤘🏼🔥 And siumai is a MUST at every dim sum restaurant.
DVW the bun that you raved about and gave a “20” out of 10 is called bolo bao. It’s commonly eaten warmed up with nothing inside with coffee or tea. However, you can find it with that creamy custard filling of red bean paste to up the ante. Glad you liked it.
I love dim sum and love the steam rice rolls, ha gow. I miss the carts being pushed. When you come down to nyc, i have a famous bbq pork bun that you would love. I guess you love the pineapple custard bun, you face says it all. Lol
I grew up eating this dish in NYC Chinatown. In my opinion, both stuffed rice noodle "cheung fun", looks very coarse in texture and way too thick. True Cantonese "cheung fun" should have a translucent skin and a velvety texture. You should be able to see the stuffing (shrimp or beef) without opening up the rice noodle.
@@DanVsWorld I am a bit bias, but I do think NYC has very delicious ethnic foods in general, especially Chinese food. Maybe you can do a food tour of Manhattan soon.
You went to Orchid over Asian BBQ2??? Wow, you don't know the Vegas dimsum scene at all. You might've well just gone to Chang's! Locals would know what I'm talking about. 😂
The best part of dim sum is you can sit with friends and family and eat for hours. The more people at the table, the more varieties of dim sum you can try.
omg, 37 seconds in, i feel so bad for her, not sure what happened but it appears that she had a very recent injury to her arm. ouch. the food looks amazing as usual.
My wife loves to go to Orchid Garden but personally I think Rainbow Kitchen hand down has the best Hong Kong dim sum. Try that place if you get a chance , Dan.
I love dim sum. Where I live the prices have skyrocketed. I mean it is what it is, but these restaurants have basically priced me out of the market & I won't entertain the majority of dim sum restaurants. Quite frankly I think it's all bs, especially since dim sum was once catered to the lower & middle class. I mean $8 for 4 pieces of hargow; that's $2 per piece. I'm like - really!!!???
KJ Kitchen is very average and the last 2 are horrible, I guest you have never been to Rainbow Kitchen, this place is even better than Tim Ho Wen. If you want to try the best local dim sums restaurant in Las Vegas it's Rainbow Kitchen, go ahead and proof me wrong.
Why would you put a restaurant that was on dirty dinning 🤮🤮. I would never go to orchid garden or whatever the fuck good to know I have to do my own research did they give you money to promote there disgust 🤮🤮

Siu mai, sharks fin, banh bao

Your expression/reaction to the pineapple one had me laughing lol. Your face told it all👌🙌🤤
Yes it was scrumptious
Pineapple buns usually don't have any pineapple. It's named after the outer crust which looks like a pineapple.
You chose the same items that I enjoyed in and they all look delicious and when I come back to Vegas I can’t wait to try them out
Have fun Michelle 🙌🏼
really like these top 3 series

On weekends and holidays, I go there early to beat the crowds.
Thank you for this video. It would have been helpful for you to give the location of the 2nd and 3rd place you reviewed.
Orchid Gardens is on Sahara and Lindell. The best of the 3, imo.
You should also try New Asian BBQ restaurant. They have delicious dim sum dishes there.

Exactly same with all you can eat sushi lol
Yum Cha is the best of the group
The question is - Is it good enough for residents of San Francisco to fly there for the dim sum?
Yes it is, but the real question is Los Angeles residents.
