Having a word processor program was revolutionary and totally changed how I worked, my first was just a typewriter with some memory & something like three lines of text display, but it allowed me to edit as I went & to save my work which was the really revolutionary part. I later got a PC and used a DOS word processing program, I forget it's name but was popular at the time, it allowed me to see an entire page and had a few other features but wasn't as big a change as that first typewriter based word processor.
Eventually I got Windows 3.1 which seemed pretty fantastic at the time, I had never seen Windows 1 or 2 before your videos so thank you very much!

35 years later, the performance is only slightly better when running Visual Studio 2022 on modern hardware.
This version was more popular than the predecessor, including Word and Excel apps, Aldus PageMaker app and overlapping. The last one function was making aggresive Apple. Successors was 2.1 and 2.11, released in 1988 and 1989

Honestly this version of Windows looked best on a Herc Monochrome setup. The color schemes were quite awful.

Does the software sound driver work in 2.1? There was a soft-sound driver that worked in 3.1 and you could hear the Ta ta! without a sound card from the PC speaker. There are games that work on an XT class computer that can also do this.
@@kreuner11 You are correct! Windows 3.0 with Multimedia Extensions was the first Windows operating system to play .wav and .mid files, before this Windows 1.0 and 2.0 only used the PC Speaker to make warning beeps.

Win 1 also existed btw, Windows 1.0 Development Release 5 is the earliest release known to this day & Is useable
There is a dev release 4, 3 ,2 and 1 but there's no found copies of it

Hercules is monochrome. In year 1982 - 1983 was better to have mono monitor and card because CGA (color card) can doo only 320x200 pixels in 4 color or 640x200 pixels mono. Windows on CGA works only 640x200 mono. Hercules have 720x350 pixels. In year 1984 was introduced EGA with resolution 640x350 pixels in 16 colors. On EGA windows work in color.
