For those who didn't know, that skill under smash stance is indeed a parry. When you have at least 1 focus point, press heavy attack when the monster is about to strike during your light attack combos, you do a counter attack smash to the enemy instead.
You can buff it a ton and get way wider window for it, but I think you have to tank a little damage even when it connects. But once you get the upgrades that heal you every time you use attacks that spend focus points, it balances itself out. Starts out weak, becomes an awesome tool to rely on, especially against enemies that have really long combo chains so dodging and attacking feels less viable.

Pillar stance is good for enemies that do big AOE attacks. Like the wondering whight. When he starts to smash the ground, jump up on the staff. Thrust stance is good for long range attacks and hit and run tactics. Try using it on shield welding enemies. Think of the stances being similar to Ghost of Tsushima

Cool that you're paying this game potentially GOTY contender. Just a hint explore as much as possible before finishing the chp the game rewards u for it. Dont be afraid to backtrack, too cuz theres stuff you'll get in later chps to access previous chps. Side note: you missed the 3rd bell it leads to another boss. 2:00:00, also what the bosses say isn't word salad relevant to the lore if you're aware of it.
Watching this you realize how much more of a fanboy for FF7 Max is. Side content with barely any reward in FF7, does all of them, side content in Sun Wukong which fleshes out the story and gameplay, not interested.

1:51:35 "Healing does not work" Everyone is going to hate me for saying this but the way healing is handled across the entire Soulslike genre is broken. In a perfect world healing should always be able to interrupt a dodge. At worst you should always with 100% reliability be able to queue a heal to follow a dodge by pressing the heal button at any point during the dodge. Right now I believe Wukong does have a short period where you can queue a heal but it's only the last 100ms or so of the dodge animation.
For a guy who supposedly plays a lot of souls games, he sure is ignorant and complaining a ton about souls mechanics. And there isn't nearly as much cheese as other formsoftware titles
max is so focused on proving it's a soulslike mainly based on the stamina bar is kinda annoying ngl. everyone else i know and myself see that Wukong is not a soulslike. a lot of the battle element you can find in the fromsoft titles existed before. the essentials of a soulslike are simply not present in wukong.

Max is just being Max. Don't be too sensitive, please. He is playing a blind run. And with the number of great fighting games coming I understand why he is kind of rushing this game and his impatience.
Maybe if one day he gives himself the chance to play WITHOUT streaming and without the pressure of time he will cherish and understand the game and its mechanics a little more.
In any case, not everyone will like the game and those mechanics in the same level as you, and you should keep that in mind.
Max playthru is killing me lol
Just started and around 55:00 I noticed you didn't need to charge the extension manually, but hits gave you pips for the staff..... how long does it take Max to figure this out?
"Visuals"... For that word, all studios and publishers have ruined themselves!
Very nice.
Bruh I’m over an hour into the video and I still haven’t seen him figure out that there is a light combo attack finisher, dude just keeps cancelling out of it with resolute strike every time haha
I’m gonna be honest, if I didn’t see other people play before I played the game I probably would be just as lost. This is the kind of game where it definitely feels like there is a defined correct way to play it imo. Spam light attack and spells, and punish with heavy. Doesn’t get much more complicated than that.
This game story base reminds me of the forbidden kingdom movie with Jackie Chan and jet li
Man max really needs to learn how to read 😂
Souls with God of War back-end, that's a perfect way to explain it
Decides to play game more like Elden RIng. Also doesn't explore a single secret in chapter 1. Gotta love it.
The complaints about the stamina got old real fast
Curious why the discourse around this game and it's developer didn't deter you from playing in the same way Stellar Blade did.
Max probably didn’t play it because it was too much of a coomer game for him
Let’s go! Been waiting to see if he will play through this, from what I’ve seen and heard this was worth the hype. ☁️💨
IVE BEEN WAITING FOR THIS 🔥
This does look very impressive
THE MOBILE SPIN CAN BE USED TO DAMAGE ENEMIES AND QUICKLY BUILD FOCUS
Oh no, he ran past Xu Dog's encounter without meeting him. He must go back and pet the dog.
This game has been weird to watch. Pat picked it up pretty quick and read the tutorials. Max buys a stance clearly labelled stance and says it's weird to press up on the D pad, but doesnt register that it is a stance haha. It's like the upside down
I was thinking about what he said, and my own playthrough of the game. If everything didn't cost something the game would be a breeze 🤣
I’m watching this stream late and after the snake boss at about the 1 hour and 57 minute mark I’m screaming at him to go left for the secret boss lol I’m absolutely loving this game though.
YEEEEEEEES!!!! I've been waiting for the ultimate dood to take this game on. Can't wait to watch this series!!!
Bro missed an insane amount of contents and side quest, it's like playing Elden Ring and run through main graces only
Bullshit. there isn't an insane amount of content nor side quests. The game is as linear as could be and most of the short tiny separate paths are literally to get like A crafting item. Its not some deep ass Souls like. Its a mid boss rush game
@@lutherheggs451Did you actually play this game? It sounds like you didn't.
@@lutherheggs451you most definitely have no idea what you are saying
@@lutherheggs451there’s so many secrets areas in each chapter with tons of content, you really shouldn’t act as an authority if you never played the game
@@lutherheggs451keep getting wrecked everywhere you cope to lmao
5:51 I can tell he's not playing on console
Son Goku Journey finally begins to the West!!! 🐉☯️🐉
That thumbnail art goes so freaking hard
That thumbnail. I wasn’t expecting a horror video!!!
Alternative title
"Go Back I want to be Monke"
Devolution cutscene background.
Great Part 1 Playthrough of Black Myth: Wukong Max.
This Game is Game of the Year for me.
I do prefer the more Faster Souls Like Games, like Black Myth: Wukong, Jedi Fallen, Sekiro, God of War and even Nioh too name afew.
Bloodborne i absolutely love and Mortel Shell was decent aswell, i find the actual Souls Games Tougher, Slower and Grindier but very rewarding if you take the time too get into them.
I didnt know i needed this untill i seen it.
Kind of painful watching him fight and not knowing how to chain combos or stances together. He's literally the only streamer I watched who didn't almost immediately get the combo mechanics and go into the smash combo.
Iam very surprised no1 in the twitch chat told him to pick up the spirit
You never used heavy attack when you had the chance almost. Tou should use heavy as possible
Im just about to start NG++ and Im still loving this game, its so good
Crimson Desert game's combat looks amazing too but comes out next year!!
Oh boy are go doods five hours of max getting destroyed and sent to the gulags
1:51:35 "Healing does not work"
Everyone is going to hate me for saying this but the way healing is handled across the entire Soulslike genre is broken.
In a perfect world healing should always be able to interrupt a dodge. At worst you should always with 100% reliability be able to queue a heal to follow a dodge by pressing the heal button at any point during the dodge.
Right now I believe Wukong does have a short period where you can queue a heal but it's only the last 100ms or so of the dodge animation.
this game a lowkey masterpiece
because the ads were already done by the novel JTTW, no need to exaggerate more.
omg that art for the thumbnail is so dope!!!!!
You missed secret boss from chapter 1 ringing 3 bells and the fox after defeating electric frog by the stairs
This character is the inspiration for goku from dbz. Its “Journey to the West” featuring the monkey king……
"Db", "Great Sage Equal To Heaven"
Been looking forward to watching Max play this game!
The last fight against the tiger dude was so exciting. Yr dodges are pretty good!
So no one is going to tell max that he miss the transformation to the Baby?
For a guy who supposedly plays a lot of souls games, he sure is ignorant and complaining a ton about souls mechanics. And there isn't nearly as much cheese as other formsoftware titles
Max loves that jump attack way too much gets him killed more often
max is so focused on proving it's a soulslike mainly based on the stamina bar is kinda annoying ngl.
everyone else i know and myself see that Wukong is not a soulslike. a lot of the battle element you can find in the fromsoft titles existed before. the essentials of a soulslike are simply not present in wukong.
Yeah doesn't feel like a souls game has some minor elements but feels like a normal action game
Nice, been waiting for him to return to monke
Welp who thinks hes going to finish the game?
Or get most of the bosses or care to?
is there anything else for Max in this time??? I have never seen him this rushed before, it's like he just plays the game to finish it as fast and as uneventful as possible
I'm so stupid! I've been taking the long way back to the rock golem. I didn't know it connected so close to THAT checkpoint. >:(
A yes
Returned to Monke
