Oh Julie I really felt for you with the wedding dress adjustment. How stressful. Well done you. I had to alter a ball dress for someone once and felt equally worried about the whole thing, but a wedding dress is on another level.

I’ve never really done much hand sewing beyond sewing buttons and never worked with boning before. Even getting to the seams was a mission. Lots learnt, mostly never to be repeated 🤣🤣

Oh yes, I saw you had the Pandas Claire 🐼 great minds and all that… I was also thinking of the Mile End , thought the Pandas would go a bit further colour-blocked with the cloudy white & granite green. Would be perfect for autumn/winter wear which suits me as I have so many plans 😮😵💫😂🩷

I made my niece’s wedding dress recently and despite some angst at times during the process was really happy with the results as was the bride! Also your outfit was fabulous. It looked so good on you. The fabric is beautiful and you accessorised it so well. I’d really love to have that fabric.❤

Julie, kudos on the wedding dress! Way to go! Any purchased occasion dress will have an ‘escape’ hatch, a place easy to open and close, inside the bodice and waist, usually with huge seam allowances, that will allow the alterations person to do what needs to be done. Learned that from an old friend of mine who did this for years. It’s a good thing to know for next time. I’ve altered a few bridesmaid dresses, and used these ‘escape hatches’ every time. Made the process much easier, and if you think about it, it does make sense that the more important the occasion, and dress, the more the original seller would want to make it to be altered. Just like us, no bridesmaids or bridesmaid stepped into a dress that fits out of the box. You obviously cared for her, so that added to the stress, but you came through. Congrats. Everything will be downhill from now…….❤
That makes a lot of sense. Turning the dress through to expose the seams was a feat in itself. I did eventually find what you describe as the escape hatch. I’ll be leaving it to the experts from now on but I am genuinely happy to have been able to help 🥳🩷❤️

OMG you are so brave to alter the wedding dress but what a trauma. So glad it all worked well in the end. The fit was perfect and looked gorgeous. It looks like the bride appreciated it. You looked lovely in your jumpsuit- I bought the pattern after seeing yours and Becs (what Bec sews) and am procrastinating about fabric! Envious of your haul and the Fleur is looking good- I want the pattern but on a ban at the moment as I have too many unused patterns and fabrics and many demands on my pension!!! I am just finishing a plain cream wrap skirt and then going to make the Andi set from Swim Style patterns. 😊 Happy Sewing. Lynne

I have experienced something similar myself when a friend asked me to shorten bat wing chiffon sleeves on a dress she wanted to wear for a wedding.Just thinking about it now brings me out in a cold sweat. It's funny, but I wouldn't have looked twice at the Rowena Jumpsuit pattern as it looks on the Victory Patterns website, but your version is stunning! And I have some linen viscose blend that I wanted to make into a jumpsuit, but didn't know which one. Now I do.

Hi Ann The Donny started life as a dress from Oliver Bonas. I think it’s a cotton viscose. It’s very soft and drapey. I’ve made a few in different fabrics and this is my favourite ❤️ 😍

I added a couple of inches to the length. I think it could do with a couple more inches next time. I do like a fit of tuck in fabrics 😍
