How to fix your Pietra shorts - don’t remove the back elastic. Turn them inside out and sew the side seams a half inch smaller. Unpick the hem first of course. I had the same problem when I made mine and this made them fit perfect. Next time size down a size.
Hello again Julie, wow 10 months I've been watching you....where has that time gone! Thank you for your reply to my question last time I do appreciate that you took the time. Your fabric haul is lovely looking forward to seeing those fabrics made up. Your trousers are brilliant, I never have any luck making trousers for myself however I have had great success in jumpsuits so maybe I should give trousers another try. Thank you so much for your time x
Thanks Susan, so lovely you’ve been with me from the start 🤩 the time has flown! Do give trousers another go, some patterns are very beginner friendly others are total head scratchers from start to finish 🤣
Thank you Julie for such a content rich video!! The patterned fabrics are beautiful, and the solid colour trousers, dress and shorts are super classy on you. Sharon
Beautiful makes which look stunning on you. I particularly love the shorts and think I have that pattern. Love your fabrics they look so summery. A great cheer up when we are going through a very miserable cold beginning to winter in New Zealand.
Thank you Jacqui, I will keep going with the shorts until I get the fit right for me, I think the style is lovely and can look smart as well as casual depending on the fabric choice ♥️💕😍
Hi Julie… yes it’s me… I’m back thoroughly enjoyed the vlog. Some amazing makes . Loving everything. Recent hand surgery brought sewing to a screaming halt. Hopefully stitches out tomorrow and then I’ll make some tentative steps towards getting back into things. It fun creating a special holiday wardrobe isn’t it. And then knowing you you’ll still be able to wear these gorgeous garment when you get back. New fabric is lovely and can’t wait to see them sewn up. Take care and see you next vlog.
Good to hear from you Julie. I hope the stitches come out with no issues and you get full mobility back asap. Holiday wardrobe making is a great project, very much looking forward to a Greek Island adventure with Chris. If only I could stick to the plan and not keep imagining new things to make 🤣🤣
Julie, I just love all your vlogs! Your makes are beautiful! You inspire me to want to make so many things. After I retired, I started back sewing mostly craft things like a quillow (blanket folds into a pillow) and project bags for knitting. I have since made purses and some sweat tops (jumpers). I have been able to do a few clothing items which I recently took with me on holiday and actually wore with pride. I do have quite a stash of fabric lol and really need to be on a no buy program. haha. I am sure you will quickly get to your 2K subscribers as you are a gem to watch. Thank you again! ❤
Your Fringe dress turned out beautifully, Julie. I know what you mean about choosing a more drapey fabric next time though. I’ll definitely be going more drapey next time. That emerald green is delicious though🍏 Your shorts were very flattering and such a polished finish . Definitely unpick the elastic. They’re too lovely not to wear them. You pick such beautiful fabrics. That colourful double gauze is just amazing - a Fringe dress would look so pretty in that. And that pink viscose linen looks great too. Good luck. 👍
Really good vlog Julie. Still loving the green trousers and the green dress looked stunning on you ❤️. The shorts are a great look. Can't wait to see all your next creations xx
Hi Julie, could you unpick the ties and then refold with the raw edges enclosed, then sew on the outside, the stitches will show but should still look great. The dress looks lovely. That double gauze looks lovely. 😊
I did think about that but unpicking the stitches of the isle jeans I found out how loose the fabric weave is, it just wants to separate and fray. I might see if I can find a matching colour fabric to make a tie but I actually like the oversized feel to the waist so it’s not overly bothering me 😍💕
Shame the pietras are a bit big because they look amazing! I love all the fabrics! I think a Billie jumper would look amazing but I would use a ribbing for the neck and cuffs. Thank you for the shout out, I am so pleased your happy with the earrings and they look fab on you! Xx
Miffed with myself for not trying the shorts on until after I’d stitched that elastic down 🫣🤣 I was pondering how to finish the neckline with such a lightweight jersey so that’s a great tip thank you 🤩 Love your Jazz and Wow small business, gonna sit back and watch you grow it 💕😍
Love your vlogs Julie I've been watching your channel from the beginning I like the way your honest and the excitement you get with new fabrics makes me smile I'm exactly the same keep being you x
Ah, Julie, you’ve made some wonderful garments that you’ve shown in this vlog! Your jeans are such a beautiful color, and the fit is amazing! How long have you been sewing? I love the Pietra shorts and the fringe dress, and I’m eager to see your finished jumpsuit. 😘
Thank you so much Lynn, I’ve been sewing since May 2020 so I’ve just party 4th anniversary 😍 I’ve finished my jumpsuit toile and part way through wedding guest version, will showing them in a vlog very soon 😍💕
Hi Julie, I just wanted to say that I really enjoy your vlogs & always look forward to the next one. You are so joyous to watch & you have fabulous taste in fabrics. You definitely inspire me 🤩
What can I add that others have not already said? Gorgeous makes and plans as always and so beautifully sewn! You are so prolific and make a lot of patterns I would really love to try especially the Isle jeans and the Pietra pants. Your fabric choices really show these patterns at their best. I am sure you will get to 2k subscribers soon - you deserve to. Happy holiday sewing. 😊. Lynne
Your Pietra shorts look so well made, Julie. How annoying that they're so much too big. If in doubt, I try to remember to measure the pattern pieces before cutting, although pulling up the elasticated waist might save them. I'm inspired by your use of viscose linen. The Isle Jeans look great on you but my best favourite pants are the True Bias Landers. I've made them in gabardine, cotton twill and needlecord but now I'm looking at viscose linen for my next pair. Shamelessly copying you? Yep! 😊
My ‘trick’ for making belts and anything long and thin that you need to turn through is to sew across the short side and 4 or 5 inches along the long side. Turn this inside out and press. Then stitch from the right side close to the edge and tucking in the seam allowances as you go. It’s really quite easy. I learnt this from Silhouette patterns vlog which is really very informative. All the best, Helen
Loved your vlog today Julie, your makes are always lovely. You have some beautiful fabrics to sew up and I’m looking forward to seeing what you do with them. I’m glad I watched tonight as I’m currently making a pair of wide leg Pietra pants, thanks for the tip of trying them on before you sew the elastic in. I’m keeping my fingers crossed that I’m making the correct size. 😂❤
It’s really hard to figure out the size earlier in the process. I’ve decided to cut the black double gauze down one size, take a couple inches off the elastic and then try them on - If it’s ok, then sew in the facing or adjust the elastic again. good luck with yours 🙏👌🩷
Hi Julie, I've just subscribed to your channel . Love your vlogs, love your enthusiasm and I think your Fringe dress is quite beautiful, sewed perfectly . I think I might have to purchase some of that double gauze despite being on a self imposed fabric buying ban !!!! 🤩
Thank you so much for subscribing Jennifer 🙏💕 and for your lovely comment. I have found those self imposed bans always lead to defiantly buying new fabric almost immediately 🤣🤣
Thanks for this Sandra. That sounds like a good option for me to try. I have cut the black double gauze but might cut them smaller rather than rely on shortening the elastic being enough 😁😎
Your AAA looks gorgeous on! Absolutely love your peacock green trousers. I am meant to be making the Thea trousers with mine, but I am sorely tempted to change my mind 😂
I still haven’t opened the Thea trousers packaging. They look so similar to the peppermint wide leg pants. Maybe I will give them a go so I can compare the 3 wide leg styles…
@@Julie_sews_her_own_clothes that sounds like a plan for a vlog. I have just cut the pattern pieces and it looks scary complicated. Need to get the fabric washed. I'm thinking of making the narrow leg pietra pants instead of the Thea in my Cadbury purple and peacock green fabrics 💜💚
I saw in your last episode this Pietra pants pattern and I immediatelly had to buy it. I made them in double gauze and they were also a bit too big in the waist, so I think the pattern is quite generous. But I shortened the elatstic at the back and they work perfectly. I want to make another with linen and also shorts, I just love this style!
Your shorts almost look like the front is bigger than the back, although that may be part of the design feature. I haven't had a really good look at my pattern yet. I'm wondering if maybe you might be able to get away with making the front smaller on the sides instead of fighting with the elastic? Would that be easier, or not?
I think I could probably size down a couple of sized and get a much better fit. I will take another look at them when I’ve finished my jumpsuit toile. 💕😻
Love love love the fabrics ❤❤ can’t wait to see all the coordinated makes
Thank you so much Cara ❤️😍
I totally relate to your excitement over the fabrics and colors and matched and possibilities! Love it all! Especially your green trousers!
Thank you Tammy, I’m definitely getting better at choosing bright plains as well as the patterned fabrics to create interchangeable outfits 👍♥️😻

Aren’t they just lovely uplifting colours! I can’t wait to wear them 😎😻🤩
The peacock trousers go with the blouse you’re wearing as well. What a great color!
Ah yes, they do seam to be wearable with a lot of my blouses Win/Win 💚❤️
Julie! That fabric!!! Also I nearly spat my coffee out when you said about the thighs being strangled by shorts 😂😂😂😂 really enjoyed your vlog xx
Thank you Mandy. Everyone knows what I mean by the thigh strangulation 🤣🤣🤣
