Fun fact: Will Smith was originally supposed to play the role of “Neo”, however, he turned it down as he didn’t share the same vision as the creators and chose to do the film “Wild Wild West” instead.
Makes me feel old knowing people your age hadn’t seen this. But thank you for watching one of the seminal films in our culture. Influenced and pioneered so much.
Wait until you watch this again - you'll catch so many things that point to the answer that you didn't understand the first time. Like Switch calling Neo "copper top" in the car, in reference to the fact he was still basically a battery. This movie made me walk out of the cinema wondering if I was stuck in a Matrix. I miss really original and unique movies like this.
Bruh after all these years I literally only just noticed the sound of the agent taking over the train drivers body as he got hit lmao, my whole life I wondered how tf he survived that shit haha it only just clicked in my brain 🤣🤣
All my friends and I walked out of the movies for this and tried walking on walls and slow motion dodges. This basically raised the bar for all the future action movies
A lot of people miss that the Oracle actually told the truth (you have the gift but it seems like you're waiting for something, your next life maybe), Neo wasnt the one to start with, and only after he died and came back to life did he become the one, as seen when he wakes up and sees the matrix in code.
Exodus 13:12 That thou shalt set apart unto the LORD all that openeth the matrix, and every firstling that cometh of a beast which thou hast; the males shall be the LORD'S.
It's more than a brilliant movie, it's a landmark pop culture phenomenon parodied in so many films and TV shows since. It was so creative and intellectually and philosophically profound.
I've watched SO MANY REACTIONS to The Matrix and y'all's is by far the best, especially the climax of the film. It's _so satisfying_ to watch people experience it for the first time, even moreso when they don't even try to hold anything back. Isn't it amazing how well this movie holds up even though it's more than 20 years old at this point?
One of the best rewatchable films ever made, you'll discover new little details every time you see it and understand more of the underlying aspects of the film. Like people thinking Neo is flying in the end, but when you rewatch it you remember Morpheus saying "you think that's air you're breathing?", meaning Neo isn't flying because there's no actual air or gravity in the Matrix, Neo is moving freely within the Matrix because he no longer has any restraints.
I have a serious problem with scifi movies where love saves the day. They did it in this movie, the fifth element, valerian and a bunch more. This trope must die.
This is one of those great movies that feel timeless. It has everything. Action, suspense, romance, twists, leather, guns, explosions, kung-fu..... it's a great film!
One tiny thing that is often overlooked is the continuity detail of Neo’s hair, inside vs outside of the matrix. (It’s clear that it’s not done with wigs.)
The scenes outside the matrix were made after the scenes inside for two reasons First because of the haircut and second because neo had to look skinnier and weaker Keanu Reeves lost a lot of weight and muscle mass for this between the two filming sessions
I had no idea you two hadn't seen this gem yet. Moment that I saw it on my feed I just thought, "Oh hell yes. These guys are going to dig this so hard!" Blockbuster blend of sci-fi, cyberpunk, anime, European action movies, spy thrillers, John Woo and Hong Kong martial arts and wire-work stunts. It really is the Wachowskis' dream rock album encompassing everything they love about cinema, comic books, world philosophies, right down to the music. - They insisted it had to end on Rage Against The Machine. Just a top notch flick all around that certainly left its mark. Rock on brothers.

@@tanelviil9149 it's not as impossible as you might think. I have a friend who is a lawyer, and he's never even heard of The Matrix. He's, also, never once been on Facebook.
It's amazing how many innovations this movie brought to film making. Bullet Time was literally invented for this film, and it's become so endemic in cinematography as to be a trope. But at the time, everyone was stumped at how it was done. It just blew everyone's mind.
The Wachowskis have a gorgeous sense of stlye and atmosphere, also seen in the crime caper "Bound", which is amazing! Joe Pantoliano (aka Joey Pants), who plays Cypher in this movie stars in that one with Gina Gershon and Jennifer Tilly. His performance is not to be missed!
I love Bound. When I first saw it in a multi-screen theater, I snuck in with a group of friends after our movie was over. We didn't know anything about it. We sat down right before the love scene and we were looking at each other and whispering, "What kind of movie is THIS?!?" LOL! By the end, we knew we wanted to see it again from the beginning. I love a good caper film.
it was Carrie-Anne Moss who got hired for Memento that she suggested Joe Pantoliano for the role of "Teddy" in the film, and it also stars Australian Guy Pearce, and was the real film that put Christoper Nolan on the map
"Don't reload, just pull out another gun! I've never seen that before!" John Woo. "The Killer" "Hardboiled" they don't bring extra ammo. They just bring more guns....
I can already tell by your reactions... had you seen this movie in its era when it single-handedly revolutionized action movies, you guys would NO DOUBT be hardcore fans, or high ranking matrix lore officers.
“Hey Mikey, I think he likes it” Was an extremely successful ad campaign for “LIFE” cereal in the mid-late 70’s.. Imagine watching this in the theater in 1999. No one had ever seen anything like it. Effing AMAZING! Sooo, you're gonna watch the whole trilogy right??? The choreography is not even close to being original if you've watched movies from China, Japan etc. previous to this. It was however likely the first time that western audiences were introduced to it in a mainstream movie.
I went to see The Matrix just so I could catch a trailer for Star Wars Episode 1 on the big screen and had my mind blown! Left the theater and rounded up others and we went back later the same day to watch it again!
“Are they wizards?” 😆 Actually…yes, kinda… “It’s a shrimp!” 😆🤣😂 “The Matrix is the force” 😁 I love these guys. Just genuine curiosity & excitement. I still cannot believe there are people on this earth who hadn’t seen the Matrix
My fave movie trilogy in existence. Along with the animatrix. Everything about it, the concepts that have aged like fine wine with computer programming, tech, philosophy, psychology, spirituality, art, comics/manga/anime, and due to the growth of video game culture, actually helped to prove how much the concepts in the trilogy is justified and work. Even if the cgi becomes dated(in regards to reloaded and revolutions due to the limitations of cgi at that time), it contextually still fits in with the matrix since this iteration is basically what video games were like when gameplay would blend in and out of cutscenes haha. So it justifies everything perfectly. And the trilogy and concepts actually aged well after all these years. Videos,e culture at this point has caught up to the concepts of the matrix trilogy and even helped to give it even more substance now. Hell, evangelion 3.0+0.1 did a good job at exemplifying what the matrix trilogy tried to get across ata time where we just wasn’t as open to until now. Even then, the trilogy is amazing and is my fave film trilogy of existence.
One of the unique brilliances fo this movie; it's one of the few movies where the special effects aren't just for show, every special effect represents something actually happening to the characters.

I loved loved loved this reaction!!! By the way the hand taunt "come here" move is a signature Brucs Lee gesture, as is the one handed, side-stance, looking-bored combat 😊
Good reaction guys. Unfortunaly, the first reactions nowadays are very different from the reactions 20 years ago. 20 years ago nobody thought about computerized simulations theories, nobody imagined what this movie could be or show to us. It was a totaly new concept. It was mind blowing. You guys soon figured out that this movie could talk about simulations of reality, back then in 1999, that ideia was so mind blowing, when we at the theaters understood the base story when Morpheus showed the "desert of the real" to Neo it was jaw droping! It was shocking to see Neo being rescued from the human fields. And the stunt sceens in slow motion, all of it was a revolution back then. Thank you for your reaction.
plus as even they showed, the matrix is part of the overall public consciousness either through direct memes or its concepts inspiring later movies/shows or the movies/shows THOSE inspired in turn
I remember watching this for the first time. We were blown away and had no idea what just happened. We went right to the next showing. Lol One of my best memories. Kinda pre-internet spoilers. Was great. 🤘🏽🤘🏽 Wished they would’ve shown when the agent dodges all the bullets. I’ll never forget the theaters reaction at that part.
I didn't watch it until 4 years later in 03. And even then it was on cable, blew my f***ing mind! I soooo regretted waiting so long but once I saw it, I went out and bought the VHS 'and' the DVD and must've watched it dozens of times. I love this movie!
This was a huge blockbuster!! I saw this in the theater. It blew everyone’s mind. It’s one of those movies you needed to watch a couple of times to grasp what the matrix was back then. Y’all have you watch #2 & #3 to finish off the trilogy. They are filming #4 finally!!
You guys need ti see the original anime of Ghost In The Shell (the recent movie with Scarlett Johannsenn was a live action version of it, which is watchable but not a touch on the original anime). The anime is seen by many as a huge influence on The Matrix, not the martial arts but the visual style and the look. One review simply put it ‘No Ghost In The Shell, no Matrix, it’s that simple’. Also, you don’t think about it during the movie while you’re caught up in it, but think about this: Morpheus is told he will be the one to find ‘the One’. Neo is told he’s not the one, but has ‘The Gift’. When Morpheus is captured, and Neo makes the decision to rescue him, if he left him to die it automatically means that Neo must be The One.
That Rage Against The Machine ending is one of the best movie endings of all-time. I only hope that, when we die, we don't wake up to find out we're in The Matrix
Hmm. That we're in a Matrix has been said for literally thousands of years. Each period just uses the language of its times. Archons: Machines. Maya/illusion: Matrix. Worse, the matrix is apparently so complex and layered, death isn't an escape. Just a doorway into another layer of the same.
"I saw that in Shrek" ..yeah this movie made everyone else want to do what The Matrix did. Groundbreaking for the time. Still cool to this day even 20 plus years later. 99 had some of the best movies EVERRRRRRRR
I saw this in the cinema when it was released and totally blew my mind. It was one of those movies that got the whole world talking. So cool seeing your first time reactions to film.
You guys would *LOVE* The Animatrix!! It's officially canon mini episodes of the Matrix where each episode explains a little more than just what the films provide, and they hired the best anime artists to animate it. Nobody's got a reaction video of the Animatrix yet, your channel should be the first because you guys have the best reaction to the Matrix.

My friend bought one at the time and when we was out at a bar or in a club he would just pull it out and so the flick with the biggest grin on his face just to wind us up. It was funny I have to admit.
i went to watch this movie i was 18 at that time. so whenever someone bought any music system we use MATRIX movie soundtrack to check the sound. MATRIX soundtrack was also great and it was ahead of its time.
One of my fave things I noticed in this movie--and made me pay more attention to lighting choices in films from then on--is when you're in the Matrix, everything has a greenish tint to it. When in the real world, it's all blue-ish. Makes sense because you're going into some industrial-lighting in the real world on the ships and all (no sunlight to take advantage of).
@PrettySaditty1920 Wow. That is really interesting. Actually, I think you're the really first one who said he liked Revolutions. Usually, people prefers the first one or even Reloaded but never the third one. Usually, everybody (even the matrix fans) hate the third one ^^
My favorite movie going experience was seeing this movie with a group of friends after school, having only seen a few ads on television, and not really knowing what it was about besides that it had cool fx. Was somewhat bored for the first 20 minutes or so, until the red pill, blue pill scene. Then, my mind was blown. I can't stress enough how exciting this movie was seeing it for the first time. Leaving the cinema absolutely amped.
One of my favourite films of all time. Hugo Weaving as Agent Smith was awesome, easily one of the best movie villains of all time. His whole monologue to Morpheus was masterful writing and character development, like he’s not some generic villain with a stupid ass motive, he has wants and needs. He wants to be free, he wants to feel real and not feel like an artificial program that is ordered around by some higher power, that’s something the audience/viewer can understand.
Well that was entertaining. Haha! Always fun to see someone's reaction when seeing it for the first time. Still holds up so well. 22 years. It was an amazing theater experience in 1999. My mind was sufficiently blown. Great video. Cheers.
Apart from the Machines seeming to like the insect aesthetic, I think the bug they put into Neo basically breaks so many laws of the simulation, it can't be depicted as something that would be compatible. It's basically malicious code or an ugly hack, it has to stand out.
In a 6 year period Hugo Weaving was in the Matrix Trilogy, The Lord of the Rings Trilogy, and V for Vendetta, this guy ruled the early 2000s lol
And the voice of Megatron.
And in the MCU, in Captain America.
He was literally everywhere

And nailed every single role. He's amazing! Knowing he won't be in the new film is honestly a brutal blow, Smith was like 50% important from the whole trilogy
Every action movie that was made after 1999 has The Matrix DNA. This movie shifted the whole entire genre.
The excitement of seeing someone enjoying the Matrix for the first time...this was fire, guys. Glad you "got it"
Just a shame they've seen all of the movies that ripped it off first. 1999: _"I've never seen anything like it!"_ 2021: _"I've seen that in Shrek."_

Fun fact: Will Smith was originally supposed to play the role of “Neo”, however, he turned it down as he didn’t share the same vision as the creators and chose to do the film “Wild Wild West” instead.
Big mistake! 🤣
Is that why they cast Jada Pinkett in the sequels?

Hugo Weaving in the interrogation scene is the best. One of my favorite scenes ever in anything.
Looking forward to Matrix 4? I am
A lot of things in this movie is not caught the first time. Most people in the beginning don’t realize that Neo is just a scrambled spelling of “One”.

A lot of people miss that the Oracle actually told the truth (you have the gift but it seems like you're waiting for something, your next life maybe), Neo wasnt the one to start with, and only after he died and came back to life did he become the one, as seen when he wakes up and sees the matrix in code.

Guys I seen Blade in theaters in 1998, and the Matrix in theaters in 1999. They were some of the greatest experiences of my existence!
One tiny thing that is often overlooked is the continuity detail of Neo’s hair, inside vs outside of the matrix.
(It’s clear that it’s not done with wigs.)
The scenes outside the matrix were made after the scenes inside for two reasons
First because of the haircut and second because neo had to look skinnier and weaker
Keanu Reeves lost a lot of weight and muscle mass for this between the two filming sessions
You might want to watch the documentaries on how this movie was filmed...good stuff!
How anyone could not have seen the The Matrix is amazing to me. This generation is missing out by not watching the 80’s or 90’s classic movies.

Remember watching this on VHS when I was 10 for the first time. Mind blowing stuff, especially pre-digital/internet/social media age.

Congrats guys on the success of the channel! Keep having fun and it will continue to grow.
Also, you don’t think about it during the movie while you’re caught up in it, but think about this:
Morpheus is told he will be the one to find ‘the One’.

One of my favourite films of all time. Hugo Weaving as Agent Smith was awesome, easily one of the best movie villains of all time. His whole monologue to Morpheus was masterful writing and character development, like he’s not some generic villain with a stupid ass motive, he has wants and needs. Apart from the Machines seeming to like the insect aesthetic, I think the bug they put into Neo basically breaks so many laws of the simulation, it can't be depicted as something that would be compatible. It's basically malicious code or an ugly hack, it has to stand out.
