Thanks for the upload :-). Moffat's comments on the grid kinda give lie to Dick Johnson's recent comments on "Legends of Motorsport" and in AMC that he blew Moff's Eggenberger Sierra with all the trick gear into the weeds. Dick was running his cars hard while Moff always said he didn't have the money to go blowing Reudi's engines chasing him. Allan maintained that he was conserving the car while his team were learning it. Moff came good at Sandown later in the year and almost won Bathurst.
I have to agree with that. Those turbo Fords were seriously quick for what they were, especially given their skinny little tyres that as you could see from Dick Johnson's car would light up when you hit the loud pedal (note just how far he went offline with wheel spin coming off the bowl heading into the last lap). And they also had very little in the way of downforce.
Yep Dick always played the under dog. During the sierra period, Dick had the biggest budget, until Nissan stepped up with the gtr. If anyone remembers, in 88 shell sponsored the championship as well as Dicks team giving them let's just say special fuel that wasn't available to all the teams until much later in the year.
I remember these races
Thanks for this upload. Never seen the race before.
any chance of the calder race from that year
