Interesting to see Ian Thompson in what appears to be a standard road going BMW 318i. I know that group A had less racing modifications than group C but I wonder how he was allowed to race that car. Also interesting to see what was even then a ancient Triumph Dolomite in the race. By the time I got a VCR, late 85, all these cars were gone & the August 1 homolgation had gone through. So this is my 1st look at Aussie Group A in it's original form. Thanks so much.
Regarding what happened to the track IIRC it was all about politics of Bob Jane versus CAMS. Pity because it was a great track both to compete on and for spectators. In the early day (1972 on) you could park your car in the spectator area on the main straight and sit in it to watch the racing.
No worries, I've managed to put together a fairly decent collection and this is the easiest way to share it. There are some threads on the group A ATCC seasons on the ten-tenths forum in the history section and according to that the Thompson car was a stock standard road registered car.
The circuit still exists. Mainly used for drag races now I think. Why the V8 supercars don't race there anymore I don't know. May be the pit area needs to be upgraded.

This was the first year of Channel 7's coverage of the ATCC in 1985 after the ATCC had spent a quarter of a century on the ABC from 1960-1984.
