It weren't a failure. They were never one of the contenders but making the finals is a pass mark. I think this is officially now Manly's longest ever premiership drought in their history.
Still got some young pups who are finding their groove (eg, Burbo, Koula, Hopoate). We were probably let down by some of our more experienced players failing to fire (eg, Garrick, Aloiai, Saab). Still need a genuine no.9 and another strong front rower to challenge for a title. Also Tommy Talau needs to play centre regularly as he's the only player we have who can defend at an elite level in the centres.
They have enough class and x-factor to be a contender but they have problems with discipline, defense and at times go forward and have done so for about a decade. Unless they can fix that finally and bring their worst game much closer to their best game they will continue to be making up numbers in finals or dropping short of even playing finals.
Kinda hard to argue with your footy analysis really but nonetheless I do feel we took a step forward this year. Manly must ALWAYS be in finals footy as a minimum and after all the crap show that went on with the rainbow jersey saga (which really was the last straw and not the only cause) I am just glad we are winning games and making top 8...you are right, we're not quite there yet. Leaving the stadium on Saturday night, that was precisely the conversation I was having with my kids in the car...we are too inconsistent AND the difference between us the the top 4 teams is sadly very evident. Fingers crossed for 2025!
Been saying it for a while now but its hard for Manly to be a real title threat when their hopes ride on the health of Turbo. Not saying they should get rid of him because hes a massive whole to fill and clearly they lack that punch when hes out. I feel like its a pass mark for this season but potentially it was one where they could've achieved more. Still some positive signs but yeah i feel like their window is slamming pretty fast
Hard to say really alot of people thought we would finish down the bottom at the start of the year. But considering some of the leads that we blew this year I have to agree with you
As a Panthers fan, these are my very early 2025 ladder predictions: 1. Panthers 2. Cowboys 3. Sharks 4. Sea Eagles 5. Raiders 6. Bulldogs 7. Rabbitohs 8. Storm 9. Eels 10. Warriors 11. Dragons 12. Titans 13. Roosters 14. Dolphins 15. Tigers 16. Broncos 17. Knights Let's see how well that holds. May swap Dragons and Sea Eagles, but the rest aren't really gon' shift. If I were to have made a 2024 prediction, Manly probably would've been predicted to be in 9th. Also, Manly finished 7th on the ladder, the only claim to 6th is via finals win in week 1. I'm guessing that's your claim to a Manly 6th place finish.
Only following this one team makes me question, Is every other team as frustrating as Manly?\ Good analysis. Yes, Garrick is a winger, not a centre ... and although Lachie Croker is a good defender, he's not a dummy-half. Jake Simpkin should be in that position.
Watched it a Couple of times ,I can't help after seeing the match that it was actually rigged, some tackles should have been made but,no effort to get t the attacker hhhmmm
11:42 that moment was due to me and mates shouting and riling up browny (we were like 10m behind him)
In my opinion, this is a very accurate analysis of our season. Some of the losses against the bottom 9 teams were very hard to take.
Especially the tigers, raiders and eels

If your not counting the time it took to get our first, then yes 😢

After two years of coming 11th and 12th, to make finals and to hit week 2 I reckon that’s a W
I guess but I can't hide away from my own expectations

2024 was a successful year for the Sea Eagles... Nobody gave us a chance to make the 8 and we got there and also won an elimination round...
Bye 2 and complete luck
luck? haha

@bobsburgers2071
Still made the finals. That's an achievement in itself for most mid-tier clubs
