- Major wedge #tornado intercept in Dominator 3 near Custer City, Oklahoma with tornado emergency issued! The hydraulics computer failed so we had to bury the Dominator in the ditch to guarantee survival. This #tornado season is insane. Record breaker potentially on our hands. Storm chase mode tomorrow once again
Crazy ... I saw you folks going into that as I was filming on the shoulder of 183 and I was like "awesome as well see his video" before backing off myself. That tornado was a big "bear" in the "bears cage"!
Recommendations List:
1. Rip out that computer and replace with a more reliable one,
2. Built in redundancies,
3. Manual override for Hydraulics and Spikes.
Giant winch to get yourself out.
Two is one and one is none. Why not have a backup computer? Seems cheap.
also a idea, have the spikes drive in 1 at a time so there is more preasure per spike allowing them to go in deeper
Letting everything get soaked also probably doesn’t help
The computer need to be gotten rid of I believe it's used to control the airbags so he can lower it to different levels. Figure out something manual levers something else. There has to be a better way to manage airbags put them on all kinds of vehicles.
Kinda funny he was yelling "We're going in the ditch, this is not good!!" Then a white car just passes by like it's all good no problem. haha

6:46 is the most concerned I have ever heard Reed sound. Computer froze... this scared me live. Please get this fixed guys it would be a national tragedy if anything happened to anyone on team dominator. That being said, amazing footage.

This is why your safety gear and system should be all mechanical and have redundancy so a frozen computer doesn't put you at risk.

I was thinking the same thing. Or at the very least, if it is electric, use direct switching, not a computer, and have power backups.

Reed, this is the second time you've gotten in a situation this year...be careful please. Don't want to see something happen to you. I'd recommend manual fail safe in case computer freezes on you again. Congrats on the intercept though. Absolutely Massive wedge! 🌪️
This year has been intense. Especially since someone as cautious as Reed has been in a couple hairy situations. It's going to be a long year
This year is madness, We are even getting tornadoes in Florida within places we usually wouldn't. NOTHING like the mid west and great plain tornadoes obviously but there is a big scary increase.

@Trainedstormspotter The computer froze. Team Dominator was as ready as they could have been. The computer wouldn't let the vehicle come nown, nor the spikes deploy. I'm sure the tech crew will be working on a solution.
Crazy, you'll have to make a separate video to talk about it, wanting to see the data.

I’m pretty certain that wasn’t a casual drive by. That was a storm chaser. He yelled “GET OUTTA HERE CONNOR!” so I think it might have been Connor Croft because he was on this storm today but I haven’t seen his stream to confirm that. Still was absolutely a storm chaser.

@OrionWisehart yep whoever it was, was a storm chaser. Reed yells at everything I have surmised..I think he assumed it was Connor. Like I said, I was watching Connors stream that day...I know Reed has the experience but he is taking quite a few chances...even in the regular vehicle he was really too close to the debris flyin everywhere yesterday in Iowa. That adrenaline rush...can make one do things they wouldnt normally do. They provide a service for sure but these storms are bizarre these days...quite a bit of atypical behavior observed. Cyclonic and anticyclonic mesos. Crazy..
I love your videos, Reed, and I'm glad you all are safe considering the massive technical malfunction. However, I urge more caution than I've been seeing in your videos lately. This tornado in particular brought back one vicious lesson...

considering he only just really started focusing on the channel this year after getting his hands back on the doms and getting dom 3 up and running again, things are looking up.
@@scottiverson2836 The dude literally has a doctorate in meteorology. There's a lot of science involved with the Dominator vehicle(s), and it's designed to help capture data from this insane storms.

Been following Reed's work a long time. No doubt he's taking a lot more risk lately. One derelict tornado (e.g., El Reno), and it's curtains.

I agree, however, that there are a lot of new cowboys out there and soon enough something bad will happen.
There's always a risk with storm chasing and there have been fatalities to chasers but if I was to go chasing with a chaser it would be reed. I would feel most safe with him.
There can for sure be improvements. But I have to say this video also shows the passion and level of thought and build quality. Even with the computer failing and I agree with other comments...redundancy. But what you have built held strong in such a terrifying and exhilarating experience and it's all for an amazing cause. There are storm chasers which much respect for all of them...then there is Reed Timmer. Stay safe brother and keep chasing!

@@Pigeon.mp4 looked more like a large cone tornado than anything. Just look at the vertices. Maybe a tenth of a mile wide.
If they had a town that would be a devastating EF5 but since it didn't or maybe it did what was it like a ef1

I've been a subscriber to his channel since almost the beginning and its awesome to see him pivot to stay successful. Th ats why he is the GOAT of storm chasing. Man, that looked just as bad as the May 31st El Reno Tornado! Glad you all made it out safe! This has been the craziest year I have ever seen (barring the 2011 Super outbreak) for weather, and the next 10 days are just threat after threat after threat!!!

Reed and his team are phenomenal 🌪
Reed has been in some insanely sketchy spots the last few weeks. But he never loses composure and always makes sure to point the car and put himself in the safest spot he can when he finds himself there. And some of these nados have made some interesting path changes too.
Reed, you and your team do great work but we’d all like you to KEEP doing that great work and not end up like the unfortunate men of the Twistex team. Do not take unnecessary chances with your life please! Even if you do everything right you could still be swept away by a rogue tornado that doesn’t do anything right. So please do everything possible to make safety and redundancy a priority on your team. Scientists like you are very valuable in the fields of tornado studies.
