Amazing stuff, love what you’re doing! The TV show got me hooked years ago. Glad to see you’re still at it. Seems like you thought of everything, right up until the rocket hookup. Lots of ways to make that a break away quick connect so you don’t have to fumble with alligator clips in the middle of a chase.
for sure was thinking the same thing about that igniter connection. but easy for us to poke about that stuff it's a different thing "Reality". the TIV is a beast.
@@MXstar189 Nobody is poking. Comments and suggestions are part of normal conversations. Not sure if you noticed, but Reed, the man himself from the video, loved and pinned my comment. So if HE didn’t take my comment as negative, then there is no one so “save” here.
I was thinking the same. @ReedTimmerWx, perhaps a magnetic disconnect for the +/- in one connector that would work similar to a magnetic charging connector on some laptops such as a MacBook Pro would be a quick and effective method. A connector that could only fit one way so no fumbling or plugging in... just bring them near and they catch. I realize it would need to be extremely lightweight so as the weight of the part attached to the rocket wouldn't affect its flight but that shouldn't be an issue to work out. Just thoughts. Thank you for all you do -- Keep up the outstanding work!
@@watchdogu.s.a.8973 The rocket engines are off the shelf parts. They look like Estes motors. Either way, the ignitors are a friction fit into the motors and are ejected upon ignition. Custom hookups could be made by soldering the leads of the fuse to a 1/4 instrument cable. then have an input jack soldered to the power source. One quick plug in and you are good to go.
Same here! Love the work Reed does! (When he mentioned "imagine you're on a chase with team Dominator" it was like "well of course! Literally only in my imagination!" 😂 I couldn't get so lucky bwahaha He mentioned how the rocket works and I thought "like Dorothy!" Then he said "like in twister!" And I lost it xD Super excited for July 19th!
I thought you would have used a fan-based suction system to stick the Dominator to the ground. There have been racecars that use something like this for more down force / stiction. NSC 🌩️🌪️😎
@@RetiredEEThat would probably require a complete floor redesign, the reason why they work so well on race cars is also in combination with race floors (planks) that also introduce ground effect. Considering underneath it's probably mostly still an F-350 there's a TON of gaps and spaces that aren't sealed due to not having a plank beneath. You'd also have to consider a powerful enough fan to fight tornado level speeds. Good idea for sure and it would be a sight to behold, from my perspective I don't think it would be practical however.
@@peperonikiller it's an interesting thought exercise: let's say the Dominator is 7'wide x 20' long. That's 140 ft², or a little over 20,000 in². If we have some sort of a ducted fan, probably in the trunk area, with one side exposed to ambient air and the other to a *relatively sealed* Dominator interior/undercarriage, that with the suspension dropped so the skirting rests on the ground and can generate 0.5 psi differential pressure, that's 10,000 pounds / 5 tons of downforce. Is that more or less than stakes driven into unknown ground? No idea. But that downforce plus the weight of the dominator plus the semi-decent seal to keep wind from getting underneath might be worth a gander. In fact, a hovercraft-like skirt/inflatable cushion might be an even better seal 🦭 Think of it as a hovercraft with the fan running in reverse. Just spitballin' 😁

Great (and hilarious) intro to the Dom3. Maybe a bit of a weak point in the rocket launch process, alligator clamps on terminals an inch apart during the approach of a freaking tornado, but seeing how cleverly you've solved so many problems from the earlier Dominators, I've little doubt that better solutions will be forthcoming. Very exciting work! Best of luck to you all.

man….. he didn’t even mention the TIV or TIV2…. which were the original “tanks” that could withstand the wind speeds of an EF4. no disrespect to reed and the team but people have to respect the man that started it all, Sean Casey.
@@BeKindToBirds it is revelant. if it were not for TIV 1, the Dominator would most likely not have been, or it would have been much later down the year before being created. Pretty sure the TIV 1 was the ground breaking idea that sparked Reeds Dominator. So yes, relevant
A running joke over at Max Velocity - After Dark is that Max needs to storm chase in a cybertruck. The chat gets really into trying to figure it out. One day he plans to chase with Reed and we can't wait to see it.
If you made the anchoring spikes a spiral auger style and rotated them into the ground, you could really anchor that thing down good. The spikes seem to raise you more than anything, depending on the soil of course. A screw style would pull you down
Just thinking the same thing about lifting. Also some sort of hooks to grab the ground, but then how do you raise them back up. But the screw cork idea solves both issues, and it would really pull the vehicle to the ground more for a better seal. Excellent solution.
This is kinda false I understand the idea but realistically a system like that wouldn’t work as it would just loosen the dirt and would really lock it down
That's cool, especially the rocket sensor. If you haven't already, you should print a phone number on the rocket sensor, that a potential finder could call for you to come retrieve it.

Dude last time I saw you, we were young it's amazing seeing a generation leap, you're not the young High pitch voice anymore. Last video I saw, you had spikes that drove in the ground at an angle and the spikes stuck in the surface, planted.....
Lol
Was driving to the wichita mountains and this drove by me in the middle of the night. Realized it was time to turn around and go home lol
What a magnificent machine! Can’t wait to see her in action. Never stop chasing!
Glad Reed is still going strong!!
He was my first introduction to storm chasing on the Discovery Channel
As someone who grew up and lives in the Midwest, Reed and his ever changing and growing Team Dominator have been a huge part of my life and I’m glad he’s going full beans with his PhD. Nobody better than Reed, and of course the OG Chaser Gizmo. I was just thinking Gizmo the other day, glad to see that cute pup is still helping Timmer with his research! What I’d give to intercept an EF 2-4 in Dominator 3. Never stop chasing, Reed!
3:58 Pause 🤔🤨
reed, you and your team vehicle line up is the reason many people are living to this day. i wish you a great life for ever. because of the dominator 3 I've always wanted to model and design a model close to the domonater 3 and tiv 2. you are a good great person!
Reed is an unhinged crazy tornadic genius!! Amazing vehicle!
What is so amazing about Reed on every intercept he shares his RUSH for everyone to see it's truly remarkable ❤
Reed is amazing! He continues making vids past the movies that i watch as a kid, gettin actual data that will save lives! Hope you make it to 1 mil ,much love!
She’s a beast! Omg, I wanna ride in it.. Well done Reed! 👏🏻👏🏻
I’m watching Storm Chasers right now on HBO Max. Good to see you’re alive and well. I’m sad to hear about Tim Samaras. RIP!
Wow, dude. You ARE a character. Gotta respect that. Love the car 😄
I see where the producers of "Twisters" got their ideas. Watched it yesterday, which is how I ended up here today, from Norway.
Seriously, I need a Twister movie with Reed leading. The shows and youtube channel are fantastic and I rewatch them often but can you imagine the movie and the science he could produce with a blockbuster budget?
you guys deserved a cameo in Twisters for sure. Hollywood made storm chasing look cool but you guys are the real deal.
I think in a way they DO have one. There are so many things in twisters that Reed helped pioneer; drilling spikes to secure your vehicle, launching rockets into the tornado, shouting YEEHAW as you zero-meter a wedge...
The new Twister looks like it's going to be so awful lol, looks like Sharknado
@@mith2946 it looks fine, its a standalone sequel so i dont see the need to compare it to the original film. whether it stands on its own or not will be determined by the performance of its cast.
@@mith2946 hard disagree. To each his own
Reed, I love the old Storm Chaser shows with you, Joel, and Chris. I hope you produce more like that. Keep dominating!
Dude you're a fricken revolutionary tornado scientist. Nobody else is doing this stuff. I'm geeking out on tornadoes big time this week. I'll be following. Noticed you're about to hit 1M sub's. You should have 2M after this season. You deserve it.
Reed your the truth and I wanna say sorry for all the losses. I still watch reruns like they new. Keep inspiring, we need it
Reed has an awesome laugh.
Yes, he does. Awesome monkey laugh he has. it totally goes with his personality!
His laugh would make a great horn for Dominator 3. Would get slowpokes out of the way toot suite 📯
It’s a maniacal laugh mwuhahaha
@@aaronschilling1815 agreed. He could easily play an evil cartoon monkey.
@@RetiredEE hahahahaha lmfao!
This is SUPER COOL!! 🙌
I LOVE it!! 🥰
TYVM Dr. Reed!!! 👏👍
I hope l live long enough to see these rockets like gadgets actually decimate the tornados!!
Never Stop Chasing! Stay Safe!☺️✌️❤️🦋🙏
Dominator 3 not only looks amazing but also is amazing! You guys never fail to get inside those tornadoes Never Stop Chasing!❤
LOL!!! Love it Reed! At least this time you didn't get hit in the head on the bounce back! Great work in New York also during the snowstorm.
Reed I'm a big fan I am fascinated with what you do with intercepting tornadoes Never Stop Chasing
Have followed you for years Reed. You are my go to person for severe weather events. Hope Gizmo is ready for some tornadoes!!
NSC!!
Reed, you're the storm chasing legend we needed. Over the last month, you really pulled me into the science of tornados. My radar knowledge has jumped after watching your live streams. Keep doing you and never stop chasing!
Thank you for all you do, Reed&Team! Not only do you take us on breathtaking adventures but you're making history doing this! So many of our advancements with weather science all because of you guys. Forever grateful for you all!
Also thank you for this video, your energy was on point and took a rough day into a good one. (Anytime you stream though. Your energy is awesome!)
Never stop chasing!❤🌪
Awesome! Never thought of using model rockets for this; I used to fly them but that was too many years ago. Also cool you accomplished this back in my old stomping grounds around Leavenworth. Used to live there after leaving the Army; grew up across the state line in NW Missouri.
as a fellow Oklahoman. This is some exquisite Oklahoman engineering! Well done!!!
Great presentation Reed! I’ve been a big fan, watching you & others chase since 2007. Finally a probe that’s accomplishing its mission lol. Looking forward to another great season of storm chasing!
This season will be an exciting one! I’m ready to see Reed get like 9 intercepts in a week. 😂 I’m glad Reed has the Technology, team and safety to do what he loves. I admire you Reed. You give me the courage and passion to keep pushing every day and keep working towards my goal to get to Oklahoma University for meteorology. God has given you a gift and man it’s a great one. I pray for you, your equipment, and your team for the chases to come. Keep up the amazing work and I look forward to what you can do this season!
Never Stop Chasing - Reed Timmer.
What an awesome video. Thank you, Reed, for sharing this with us. Never stop chasing. 🌪🌪🌪🌪🌪🌪🌪🌪
Sign me up. I was fascinated with extreme weather ever since around 9. Now I watch this and wanna move to the US to see these things in person(from a safe distance).
pure fun...pure entertainment...pure science...5 star
Reed I have been following you for about 13 years, and this video of the Dominator 3 is absolutely phenomenal. I can't wait for storm chasing this season 2024! Never Stop Chasing!
Edit: How many miles are on Dominator 3?
This dude is what I call “good crazy” ❤
Great (and hilarious) intro to the Dom3. Maybe a bit of a weak point in the rocket launch process, alligator clamps on terminals an inch apart during the approach of a freaking tornado, but seeing how cleverly you've solved so many problems from the earlier Dominators, I've little doubt that better solutions will be forthcoming. Very exciting work! Best of luck to you all.
That rocket thingy is badass! You've probably already thought of this, but cameras inside the rocket would be incredibly useful. There's no telling how many cows and sharks you'll find.
Your enthusiasm and passion is amazing - and just look at the results! Never stop chasing!
So damned cool Reed.
I love your never ending passion for being on the razor thin cutting edge of research and innovation.
You are your staff are legends, and we appreciate all you do.
Always thought this guy was crazy as hell but the laughter seals the deal! Best of luck!
Yall hiring drivers because I think the crazy may be contagious.
Love learning. Enjoy the chase always and enjoy seeing the countryside whilst you're traveling. Thanks so much. Be careful and stay safe.
This feels like an ad the whole time or maybe I’m too fried 😵💫😂😂
Amazing stuff, love what you’re doing! The TV show got me hooked years ago. Glad to see you’re still at it. Seems like you thought of everything, right up until the rocket hookup. Lots of ways to make that a break away quick connect so you don’t have to fumble with alligator clips in the middle of a chase.
Reed, this is such a great video! Your passion for chasing can always be felt.
This photo reminds me of the Dr. Evil line, You know, I have one simple request, and that is to have sharks with frickin' laser beams attached to their heads! 😂 Y'all rock
Haha never stop chasing
"Pinch it off, we gotta go!" Great Video!!
*You should try testing this car through the sand storm too, must be pretty cool*
man….. he didn’t even mention the TIV or TIV2…. which were the original “tanks” that could withstand the wind speeds of an EF4. no disrespect to reed and the team but people have to respect the man that started it all, Sean Casey.
Who cares
@@AdamJames-l4t people who grew up watching Storm Chasers on Discovery in 2006
It isn't a documentary about storm chasing, it's a tour of his vehicle and it's updates specifically.
It just isn't relevant
I remember the TIV, seems like it was yesterday when those were made
@@BeKindToBirds it is revelant. if it were not for TIV 1, the Dominator would most likely not have been, or it would have been much later down the year before being created.
Pretty sure the TIV 1 was the ground breaking idea that sparked Reeds Dominator.
So yes, relevant
I love this video! Serious explanation of a very important matter but still light and funny. Amazing work here!
Cant wait to see the dominator 3’s new tour! It released! 🎉
This is what the cybertruck wishes it was
New version of Tesla but electric 😊
A running joke over at Max Velocity - After Dark is that Max needs to storm chase in a cybertruck. The chat gets really into trying to figure it out. One day he plans to chase with Reed and we can't wait to see it.
@@lifequest7453 Yeah but it would be cool if it was
Votre Elon MUSK serait capable de construire un Dominator volant pour traquer les tornades. ❤

I have wanted to chase tornadoes for over two decades. This is awesome!!
7:03 and the dogs 2nd look😂
1:51 all cars should be made with this material. Ppl wouldn't die
If you made the anchoring spikes a spiral auger style and rotated them into the ground, you could really anchor that thing down good. The spikes seem to raise you more than anything, depending on the soil of course. A screw style would pull you down
100%
@@Ry_Guy very smart idea!
I agree.
I was thinking of a teepee style strut (air or hydraulic) assembly.
Just thinking the same thing about lifting. Also some sort of hooks to grab the ground, but then how do you raise them back up.
But the screw cork idea solves both issues, and it would really pull the vehicle to the ground more for a better seal. Excellent solution.
This is kinda false I understand the idea but realistically a system like that wouldn’t work as it would just loosen the dirt and would really lock it down
Reed Timmer... sounds like a Mad Scientist with that laugh... Lol! The best!
Yep.
Like a nervous we mess around and find out on the regular kinda death wish laugh 😂😂😂
@@yourmomsmom311 yep hahaha

Hail cannons may have been a bad idea, but at least tornado rockets are promising!
I'm just glad it's finally declassified
This man would make the perfect Joker. He already has the bat truck.
Lol
That's cool, especially the rocket sensor. If you haven't already, you should print a phone number on the rocket sensor, that a potential finder could call for you to come retrieve it.
Thanks to Reed, Brian, and the whole Team Dominator for this scientific breakthrough! #NeverStopChasing!
Absolutely gorgeous machine!
Still more practical as a daily driver than the cybertruck
By far. This thing was actually improved as time went on! The Cybertruck just becomes more of a meme the more I learn about it. XD
And this one doesnt stop working under the rain XD

GREAT TOUR, Dr Timmer!!! Thank you. Be safe and never stop chasing!!!
First time seeing your video and I thought it would be another goofy diy maker channel. I realized you're a real deal. What a machine! I hope to see video of Dominator 3 at its job!
This is so well made, hats off to Brian and team dominator!! I love how Reed’s personality really shines through, I legitimately was laughing so hard when he was hammering that at 2:27 and happy seeing him share his passion with us all! This is such valuable information, thank you for sharing this all!
Never stop chasing! 💪🏻
What an absolute beast. I love it!!!
so if I understand this correctly, you guys came up with a miniature version of Twisters "Dorothy". Twister got me interested in Tornados, and here seeing Dorothy fly for real, so to speak, is absolutely amazing! and then there is that mean uparmored F-350, hot damn! keep up the great work Reed!
Twister is what got me into meteorology and this, this is what I love
I love how Reed is a professional, a child, an idiot and a genius all at the same time. Clearly a fellow Xennial and Im here for it. Keep being you Reed!
