  • In this first color mixing lesson we look at the basic principles of color mixing with primary yellow, magenta and cyan. With these three colors we can make make a wide range of saturated colors, like oranges, reds, purples, blues and greens.
Practicing with these three colors can be really helpful for understanding colors and their place on the colorwheel and the relations between colors.
However: when you want to start painting in a realistic style, these colors aren't very practical to work with. There are other limited palettes that provide a wide variety of possible color mixtures.

I appreciate how you put the color arrows on an image. It helps us to distinguish them, and it’s quite surprising to see what’s actually in there!

How do you create cyan and magenta? All I have is primary blue and red.

Great to see an actual demonstration instead of just talking.
Which video are you referring to at 6:51? Don't see anything like that on your channel.

Ah! You're right, good that you point it out, I completely forgot to make that video! 😂Luckily I have another video that covers the same topic: th-cam.com/video/NLJUIMnmCvU/w-d-xo.html I'll make that other video within a few weeks. Thanks for your comment 👍
