I still think Massive X is a very powerful synth. I love the sound of it, the performer, the reverbs, phase modulation, filters, and router. It’s limitations and strengths give it a unique character. Hoping we can import some day, but the wavetables it has are great. I didn’t have any expectations going in though. It was out by the time I heard about it.
Reaktor 6..! Cant beat that. It looks intimidating at first, but it is actually fairly "quick" to learn the basics, and after that, you can make your own sequenced synths with custom waveforms, and as many modifiers as you want. Having infinite modifiers is really handy if you want to create "analog emulations" (which i think is really nice, as it enables you to make the sound as warm/fat/"analog" as you want, as opposed to an actual analog synth where you can not change this). I often get annoyed when i dont have enough modifiers or something, and feel like the people who made these things dont even try to make their products as good as they can be. Reaktor completely removes these annoying limitations - and at least i think it feels pretty cool to have a synth that you have built yourself, tailored after your own needs, and designed with custom made knobs (if you download "KnobMan", you can make your own), and flashing signs (i use custom knobs controlled by an LFO to create this), and some nice custom picture for the "panel" itself. Here is a FB link to a video demonstration of what i have got so far. Took me about a month of work, starting from knowing nothing about how to use this software, so a lot of the time was spent on TH-cam watching videos on how to create a simple synth and sequencer and delays and reverbs and stuff... facebook.com/espen.eventyreren/videos/vb.100005346578842/974389686082575/?type=3
I love Reaktor...but it's amodular environment, it's not a synth. It can CREATE synth, effects, MIDI devices, visuals (thanks to its top quality modules), but it's a collection of modules/macros useful to create something. The factory library itself is not intended as a final product itself, but something to make you see what you can create with Reaktor. Anyway, good toys too in the factory library!
At this time I'm IN LOVE with the new Massive X. It can be better, but the engine is there...and it sounds amazing, really! Get lost into its routing capabilities and unique tone shaping features, you'll find something creative, unique and that you can't reach with other products. It has still some imitations, but it has soooo much to explore. Get lost into it and create some unique patching..... and you'll stop to quote stuff like Serum, that in common has the wavetable synthesis but not so much more. When it comes to psychedelic patches and pure sound design, I found that I can created something really new with Massive X. Don't be afraid to explore and to understand its true nature... it's not a synth to make "a brass", it's for experimentl stuff and it has all the potential (and more)
It's definitely got a unique sound and workflow that is appealing in a lot of ways. It's not as high functionality wise compared to other synths, but that isn't necessary. I think most people hate on it so much is because back when Massive 1 was released it completely changed the game for Electronic music, and people expected MX to have the same impact, which it didn't. Of course it's still a great synth.
I have been seeing it for 15 a lot lately. I debated between getting it and synthmaster one. You review of Synthmaster made me choose it. Though I already have the player. 💪✌👍
Abletons stock plugins and synths are insanely underrated imo, they are as good and sometimes better than any 3rd party competitor. Also, dune 3 is slept on hard imo, it sounds so juicy. If it had workflow like serum, with the dune 3 sound, it would be my goat synth.
Ambedo lol, the built in plugins and synths in most DAWs are quite well made, Logic, fl studio, reason... you can’t be lazy to compete with your $200 synth plugins.
so and so....OK about Operator (that is GOD, not a synth), but what about Wavetable?? The filters are a JOKE , wavetable synthesis is perfect paired fith comb filtering, we only have HP-BP-LP at 2 or 4 poles :D It's all so poor implemented I stopped using it (now I'm on Bitwig and not on Ableton , no chance to use it anymore). With Max4Live devices I was able to implement good modulations and give ot some functions it lacks.....but the point is that they had to call it "wavetable morpher", not "synth"
I learn a lot with your videos, your opinions help me to choose better options when I want to buy plugins, I'm in love with Hybrid 3 and Xpand!2 because of your last video of omnisphere, thanks for that!!
I have had falcon and Serum for awhile and really don't think I need anything else. I still have a lot to learn as far as being able to create a sound in my head before it leaves me. One day I will be happy with that ability. Thanks for the video.

@@ECOGtheMC imo it sounds thin compared to other synths like serum, hive etc. Also, can't get the free form unison to work as expected, so supersaw is always a pain in the a** with this synth. But I think it's useful for making some complementary layers.

Love the vid. Yes to Synthmaster One, Hive 2 and Sektor. I think you should try out Halion 6. They recently added wavetable capabilities to their sampling and analog synthesis options and one can AUTHOR your own VSTs, including the synthesis engines, the artwork etc. It is highly overlooked, but is a gem.
Again a very interesting video with a honest opinion sharing. I do agree on many points. - ICARUS is awesome as everything from Tone2 - HIVE2 now has a great 2 OSC wavetable function which sounds fantastic. I am producing a Hive only piece of music right now. Around 25 to 30 tracks and the synth as a bare audio source (without effects, widening and unison - I always disable that) sounds amazing. - WIGGLE I got this thing on my list for ages but I heard it should be buggy? Hardware: BLOFELD by Waldorf Have joy and be sound
Wiggle was buggy in the beginning but all the updates they fixed that. Wiggle is an amazing synth. The sounds you can make with the sequencer the motion pad etc is unbelievable. However it is not for analog sounds and it doesnt try or claim to be. I agree with you tone 2 products are great have icarus a nd electea 2
I am quite appreciating Massive X .Not for the presets but the interesting way to build your own sound and texture .My version was added because I up graded to Komplete 12 at half price .Very good value .
Hi, one that is't mentioned is Dmitry Thorn. I love the unique options which are so creative. The spectral thingy in the middle and different filters with the drive knob are amazing. Love it as an addition to hive 2 and rapid. My top 3 which complement eachother.
Yeah, I know I messed up not mentioning DS Thorn (I did a review on it 2 years). You're right, it's an absolute beautiful synth with options that ahead of the curve.
Back in 2008 I used massive and omnisphere. Fast forward to today and I use uHe Bazille, Zebra 2, and hive 2, sytrus and Harmor. I also use vital and a bunch of other things, but my sound is defined entirely by Bazille. It's my favorite vst plugin. I can run 6 bazilles, 6 Hives, and 2 Zebra 2's for the same resources it took to run 2 omnis and 2 massive.
@Simon Letztnahm I was referring to the latest version of Synthmaster: 2.9. Synthmaster 2 is tremendously versatile and powerful and a great value. Synthmaster One is a scaled-down version of Synthmaster that has a single-page interface and focuses on wavetables. Wavetable capabilities were added to Synthmaster 2 after Synthmaster One was released.
Wavetable is pretty rocking with the ability to drag and drop virtually any sample as a wave table right from abeltons browser. Synthmaster One sounds great and I have been gravitating to it as of late. Just picked up Sektor on sale but need to play with it more to figure it out. Have Massive and was hoping that MassiveX would be the next gen type thing to eventually upgrade to but now I am now on the fence due to its lackluster rollout. I'm just going to have to invest in Serum eventually and possibly wiggle which wasn't on my radar until now.

Massive X isn't a bad synth at all! Sure it needs to have loadable wavetables and noises! I think they're working on these in much more depth! The things I dig about Massive X is the routing tab tho! You can do some crazy shit with it! Like using an exciter envelope to give a nice transient tone for the comb filter to make Bells! Massive X has its uses but yes I agree with everything you said!

Kilohearts Phaseplant blows everything else out of the frame at the moment. It's like Zebra 2, Serum & FM8 ran a train on a sampler. Practically unlimited oscillators & modulation sources. Layering samples with virtual analog & wavetable oscillators & the ability to route FM between all of them. Better FM routing options than FM8, better wavetable editor & overall visualization than Serum. Full Fabfilter Pro Q-like parametric EQ usable in the synth & you can modulate the entire EQ curve like a filter with the synth LFOs & envelopes, which allows for limitless filter shapes. In the latest update they added the ability to use Multipass as a snap in within the synth. Multiband everything within a synth is a total game changer. You really need to have the Ultimate toolbox from Kilohearts to get the most out of it, but I doubt I'll ever use Serum, FM8 or even Zebra 2 again now I have this thing.

i think Hive 2 is top on your list, if you have that you got it all. but honestly i am really satisfied with the new wavetable in ableton 10, it sounds dope and can do so much for a little synth. surprised you didnt mention it :-)

Massive X looked good on paper in 2019, but it was rushed out way before it was actually finished. It was buggy as hell and a lot of important features like the envelope visualization didn't work *at all.* After having tried it for a while, I completely wrote it off as a flop. After that, I didn't even open the plugin for about a year. It did not interest me at all. Then, a few months ago, something made my try it again for some reason, and I was positively *shocked.* After a number of updates, it finally *works* the way it was supposed to do from the beginning. And - as it turns out - it's actually an ABSOLUTELY AMAZING synth! Unfortunately, I think NI might have already destroyed the "career" of this synth anyway, by releasing it to the world in such a terrible shape as they did. The Massive X 1.0 got a really bad reputation and a lot of people gave up on it *for good,* just like me. It was actually just a coincidence that made me even *try* the updated version. A lot of people will likely not even bother, which is a bit sad, because - like I said - it's actually a _pretty amazing_ instrument...
ARTURIA!!! Pigments is dope!! All of ARTURIA's instruments are top flight!! I will argue ARTURIA over N.I. until I die... Synthmaster One is the best "bang for your buck"
Massive X 1.4 came out a week ago without native M1 support in sight anywhere. I don't need that. Phaseplant and Pigments do everything I need, so I guess I will never even try it - although I have a license.
Original Massive is great same goes for serum. Those developers need to realize that they should make more sounds for other genres besides edm, trance and other similar genres.
Massive X is amazing. One of the best user interfaces I've ever seen. It's also really deep. I'm glad they made an all new instrument rather than just massive 2.
I have done a review on it yet but Babylon would be one of them (it's $13), Hive, Nexus, Trap Boom 3, Omnisphere 2, Electra, and Obscurium. That's a list off the top of my head.
massiveX is pretty good but its a huge shame how much it sucks on the processor honestly i feel like they should really look into it cause no vst should use this much
I saw someone made a comment how NI are just like Apple, and how they focus their shit to look nice and not functional. IMO that's bullshit! NI is making ecosystem where everything is connected and that way is much more easier to get faster workflow. If i had money i would invest in NI for gear and VSTs, and i bet in few months you would delete everything else from your VST folder. You would start making your own sound, and not presets. Presets are for newbies or for start point. FabFilter, Valhalla, iZotope and NI ecosystem and end game! :D
There is absolutely no quotes involved with desktop cpus being faster. It's a fact. Laptops are bare minimum for daws. Most just dont have to cooling to obtain higher speeds and unless you're buying a new laptop with the desktop CPU in it then you will always struggle to run large vsts
I feel the same. For some reason native instruments wanted to make a clunky and difficult to understand synth. Instead of making it more competent and aesthetically pleasing.
@@AveMcree The only reason it's difficult to understand is the lack of a manual. In terms of understanding, I don't think it's any worse than Serum, which has quite a few hidden and unintuitive features- Massive X's features are mostly there on the GUI, just that they haven't been explained yet because NI are so slow with the manual. I'm still waiting for the most important parts of the manual- the oscillators, filters and LFOs. I agree that certain aspects of it are clunky, especially the Performers which don't even have any dotted notes, the time signature settings are very specific when they could have covered all their bases. The point selection is quite bad- you can only select a contiguous range of points which is of limited use by dragging on an unmarked part of the timeline, no lasso select. There aren't any values displayed so I can't set eg delay times to an accurate value- I have to guess.

Agree not sure why avenger isnt on here.
If I had to choose one, I'd go with Arturia Pigments.
Their synth seems to be very good but expensive too. Does Aturia dongles or online validation or such user restricting crappy things? Thank you.
nichttuntun You just have to install Arturias Softwarecenter. No dongle or something
@@CredeFX thank you. Seems like waves installer.
I know producers don’t like giving out secrets...but where did you get that shirt??
A lot of people will likely not even bother,
which is a bit sad, because - like I said - it's actually a _pretty amazing_ instrument...
I didn't know Icarus was that good. Very impressed
It's very slept on
Hey DJ Ave is Massive X a good synth to buy.
DUNE 3, man! Best sounding Wavetable synth outthere. Maybe best sounding synth overall.
8:36
I'm a sucker for those stereo-delay effects.
Thats where Tone2 shines
After all, Massive X currently costs €149 instead of €286 including three expansion sets, which represents a price saving of almost 50%. (28.04.2020)
I can agree with this. excellent video
ARTURIA!!!
Pigments is dope!! All of ARTURIA's instruments are top flight!! I will argue ARTURIA over N.I. until I die...
Synthmaster One is the best "bang for your buck"
What about synthmaster2?
Great piece. Just an FYI that you forgot to put the link to Serum in your notes. Cheers.
VPS avenger, just saying. The 8 bit expansion adds a boatload of lofi waves and highspeed arcade style arps.
I beta tested that plugin back in 2016. It's very but I didn't like that DSP hit on my cpu.
Underrated synths & effects videos? 🤔
Sounds like a good idea
Massive X 1.4 came out a week ago without native M1 support in sight anywhere. I don't need that. Phaseplant and Pigments do everything I need, so I guess I will never even try it - although I have a license.
Original Massive is great same goes for serum. Those developers need to realize that they should make more sounds for other genres besides edm, trance and other similar genres.
Yep I just picked up pigments for 69 bucks. It's the bomb.
I must check out this "Tone 2 Icarus" Bro that shit sounds wicked!! :o
Massive X is amazing. One of the best user interfaces I've ever seen. It's also really deep. I'm glad they made an all new instrument rather than just massive 2.
We need more tutorial on wiggle, wiggle, wiggle!!!
I have Ryzen 1800x and Massive X doesn't slow down anything. Do most people use laptops?
Tone 2 Icarus is still 200 bucks to this day! I thought I could get it for like 20 bucks nowadays on one of them bomb ass plug-in boutique deals lol
holy shit really? It was on sale for like $99 at one time. Better wait it out until Labor Day... sheesh
U-He Zebra 2, UVI Falcon and Omnisphere 2
If you ever get a chance, please make some hits with DS Thorn
Daaaaaammit I knew I missed one! Thanks for the reminder.
Yea I really like that one. sold by plugin alliance now. But you can get a free 14 day demo.
Do you have a top plugin video for presets (non sound designers)?
I have done a review on it yet but Babylon would be one of them (it's $13), Hive, Nexus, Trap Boom 3, Omnisphere 2, Electra, and Obscurium. That's a list off the top of my head.
Honestly the GUI is a huge factor for me
You should check out Sylenth and Spire
isotope Iris 2? Does that count? I watched this whole video and I don't know wtf is a wave table synthesizer.
🔥🔥💯💯
Great video.
Guys please recommend me some synt that have Massive's *Performer* . It is the one feature that I cant find in other synts???
You forgot Waldorf Largo and PPG WaveGenerator/Wavemapper
Icarus is over the top for me shout out to Tone2
Omnisphere 2 (with all Spectrasonics’ latest series of products) is all you need 😂😂😂😂 ✌🏾
Spectrasonics gang 🤘❤️
massiveX is pretty good but its a huge shame how much it sucks on the processor honestly i feel like they should really look into it cause no vst should use this much
I bet you can make some fire massive x presets 🤣🤣🤣 ur electrax stuff a1🔥
Probably but the dsp makes it impossible to have optimized presets.
You a trouble maker homey😂😂😂💣💣💣💣💣
...but where's Phase Plant??
I got sektor on that discount, that joint got crazy sounds for trap. I slept on that hard way! (Pause) 😂
😂😂😂factual
At 6:40 I for real thought my dude was gonna bust out some Black Sabbath on us! Haha
th-cam.com/video/FVPSpv4yZ6U/w-d-xo.html
What??? I was ready to say "TRAPTENDO!" at the beginning of the video. :(
How come you own 8 Wavetable VSTs?
Dope vid!
Rah Da N.O.C.
Good video bro
Custom waveforms in sektor? Am I to stupid to get how its done or is he wrong?
Yes, it's true, the process is a bit odd though.
Sabbir Ahmad ok thats nice to know! Are there any instructions for that online? Thx pal
Sector is good and is on sale for $15 again.
Where?
With all these Synths that exist. How do you not loose your mind. There's just too many lmao!
Cardeo From The 5 my mind left back in 1983
@@AveMcree 🤣🤣 I feel bro.
Dropping bombs
I'm still mad about Massive X. I has so much damn potential.
That sonic shirt 🔥🔥🔥🔥
Yeah this video was made on Thursday before meeting Busyworkbeats
Massive dropped the ball with the lack of visual feedback
MassiveX is dope
always choosing violence these days....I like your cut g
I personally don't like sektor man, for real. I got it but I just don't like it. I've never used it on a project.
Phase Plant is king!
well, you dont need anything else, when you have Nexus 4
HalIon just covers it all
