I remember renting this game as a kid and really loving the atmoshpere. As a French Canadian, didn't know English at the time, so I had to rely on visual queues to know what was going on in the plot to figure out where to go, which I absolutely loved since exploring the strange world felt surreal. Too bad that it doesn't have 2-player co-op like Secret of Mana does, that was a missed opportunity.
SoM was kinda a child's fairytale, everything light and bright and happy. SoE was had a darker atmosphere with a desaturated color palette. It's such a shame Squeenix doesn't even recognize Secret of Evermore's existence nowadays. I don't necessarily need or even want a remake but a "cheap" HD remastered for modern platforms to get the game to new audiences is more than deserved of this game.
2:25:05 "As for that zipping in the desert: I dunno how the hell that happened." There's a specific location in the desert that lets you do that, it's referred to as the Desert Wormhole. It's theorized that it's a dev shortcuts that got left in during playtesting, probably because of how unlikely it is to hit except by either sheer dumb luck or rote memorization. The wormhole gets used in some speedrunning categories.
My friend had Secret of Mana, which we played a ton in co-op mode, a superb experience. I had so wished for Secret of Evermore to be a proper sequel. It's a great game in its own right and the developers did a good job, but the darker vibe and loss of co-op ultimately left me disappointed.
It's really a pretty great game. I loved it back in the day, and I still long to play it again. I wish it'd show up on the Switch at some point. The story is kind of meh and all over the place, but the battle system is excellent in SoM fashion, the sprite art and environments are gorgeous and well designed, and the music is fantastic.
@@MagnificentErgo thats all good though i been going through a stage in life where i don't care to much about story and im all about gameplay and game feel :)
I was a big fan of all the Squaresoft RPGs and I remember getting this after FF6. Of course it wasn't as good as the legendary FF6, but it was fun and charming. And I really liked it and still do. I ordered the FF6 CD soundtrack directly from Squaresoft and added the soundtrack to this game in with it. I still have those CDs and they are treasure to me. The Soule brothers did such a good job on this.
One of the buggiest games ever on the SNES. The dog kept getting stuck in the upper left corner; it was possible to leave the first castle without the key needed to get into the second one, and guards would block you from re-entering the first one to get it; and there was a third location I don't even remember how to get past it. One of my favorite games regardless.
This is too creepy! I searched for a longplay of this video about 23 hours ago..... On the plus side even though I am a bit creeped at least this just 1 video instead of 4 like the other one 12 years ago.
But fr. I love those crazy accidents on YT, when you search for something and one of the YT channels you follow suddenly releases exactly what you searched for a few days later.
The instruction manual mentions weapon masters and has a tiny screenshot that I've never seen in game. Hope someone does a deep dive about it sometime.

The atmosphere is absolutely amazing
Square's first effort for an American audience is a very good one.
@@IcemanSlim69 But that got released in Japan a year later.
One of the first works of the Elder Scrolls' original composer
Non other then Jeremy Soule.
It's one of the underrated games on SNES. I like how its battle system has improved compare to "Secret of Mana" (another great SNES game).
A modern-fairytale concept, using a formula that works, and not being afraid to take chances. The good old days
Square delivers again with an all time classic.
I've always wanted to play this game. It feels like a fever dream and looks like nothing you'd ever experience elsewhere.
Underated. Better than SoM in some ways, especially tone and atmosphere. An era of gaming lost to mostly those that grew up in it.

@@penix3323 I still think SoM is one of the best games of all time
Adult me in 2024 present day talking to my inner child - How many times you want to play Secret of Evermore?
Inner child from the 90s - YESSSSS!!!
I still have my copy of this 😁
Saaaaame
The Music. ❤❤❤
Absolutely. I read that Jeremy Soule is responsible, and was a teenager when he did it.
And the incredible graphics and environmental sound effects! This was easily one of the best Squaresoft games made on the SNES! It needs a sequel!
Thank you for showing us the intro too :)
And respect for killing the dinos at the beginning :D

Highly underrated game. Deserves a remake ala smrpg for switch. I wish they'd have ran with an Evermore series over the Mana series.
Woah someone played this Game, i never finished gotta see how it ends

Played and ended this game and loved it. The Alchemy mechanic and the differents forms of the dog was really good. A 2d-Hd remake would be nice.
That time Squaresoft ripped off themselves ❤
Holy crap how did this take so long to get a longplay

Do you level up your weapons in this longplay?
Amazing games on super famicom.
I had so much hate for this game way back since it came out and not the sequel to Mana.
NEEEEEEEEEEEEERDS!!
