It's Lous birthday this week, and what does she want to do, go wild camping in the woods and test out some new camping gear!
So we take a short break from van life and she drags me along to get close to nature in the forest!
I haven't done any wild camping like this for a long time so I borrow Lous not so stealth tent and we head off into the forest and set up camp.
If you want to know how I got on then come along with us on this mini adventure to see if I loved my first time camping or if it just gave me nightmares!

Pu two tent pegs stuck upright in the ground, puit boots on them upside down. Not only do your get clean boots for morning but no critters sleeping in there.

What a way to celebrate your B-DAY!! Camera planning and timing is admirable. Emily chose the tent over the hammock because couldn't hold snacks weight. The hammock reminds me of Steve the guy in Canada who stealth camps in crazy places. Sadly his wife passed away in her sleep, but he sleeps in a tree hammock and they do look so comfy. Quicker to put away than a tent and much lighter to carry.
We have not seen him, will have to check that out

The Rab sleeping bag is a brilliant investment, you won't regret it! I have had my 4 season duck down bag for 22 years, and it's still as good now at keeping me warm as it was when I got it. Only issue is the duck down bunches up into certain parts of the bag, but give it a good shake and it's fine. I love my Rab! Hope you enjoys yours Lou and get lots of use from it. Great video BTW.

Awesome! As a van owner now I totally miss my younger days , camping on the forest floor, or in the sand dunes, eating round the campfire etc! Love that hammock too. Love you guys! Might give the tent another go - next summer!

The last time I camped was at least a decade ago. Use to camp a lot when my kids were young. It was always during peak season but not the last time. Campground was empty and it was in the middle of UP, Michigan national forest. I've never been so scared. I kept praying all night for morning to come and swore I would never camp again if morning would please please come. I don't even remember what noises scared me so badly. 🤯🐻🦉🦇🫎🦊🦝🦁🐺🦌

That was pretty tame for wild camping. Hopefully there will be more camping opportunities in the future. A few extra bits of kit for comfort make all the difference. A pillow. And make sure you mat is good quality. I recommend an Exped Down 7 or 9. Great depth of filling, perfect for side sleepers or those who like hip padding to be substantial. I also like to have ear plugs in, to block out rustling of animals or wind. Being in the woods is fun.
I am indeed a side sleeper so I need something a little better than what we currently got for sure

I tent camped from 1983 to 2014. Had a really nice set up for weekends and vacai's. Always said I would buy an RV when I got older ... so I bought a 24' Winnie in 2014. Love it. Enjoyed y'alls campout... love to see more!! Love and Aloha!!❤️🤙🌈

Those were not conkers (horse chestnuts) that Emily cleared away for her tent, but were actually chestnuts. There may be some tips on line on how to eat them.

Here in the US, we have to put all digestible products in a bag tied up in a tree. We had someone killed by a bear who only had chewing gum in her tent..

Try a small radio on during the night helps reduce freaky noises you hear and helps to settle you down
I live in Australia now, but grow up in New Zealand where we did wild camping all the time. However, my partner isn’t a “camper” and the last few times I’ve tried camping with him didn’t work too well ( very funny reasons). Watch my Cockatoo Island camping videos. It’s a way to introduce him to camping before trying wild camping.

Good show. Feel that this is more inspirational for us novices than those straight up camping/bush crafting channels. Bravo to Emily for agreeing to get out there and still willing to do more of it. Agree that sleeping on the ground is hard on the bones so Emily should get the cool hammock next time. Can't wait to hear Louise's review of the hammock, it looks very comfortable.
